nevermind... musta been a glitch since i tried taking ring off 1 minute until it would end anyway, and the enchantment left.

maybe it's kinda the same as campaign-end glitch where when you level up you can't equip new eq for new level until zoning or something.

Sorry to necro this subject, but a couple people were saying that there's a gugrasauras on the selbina-mhuara ship that proves ebisu "rage mode".

I just got the serpent key item and I'm lvl 79 (was 78 at the time of this) and I caught the gug when the pirates were on board. It acted like a sea zombie, and I totally thought "this is soooo not as hard as everyone is making it out to be."

Then 2-3 minutes later I hooked another, but couldn't take it past 70% or so. This is all with a Lu Shang rod.

I think that one gug is just something the developers threw in as a "lucky catch" that people can sometimes get without trying too hard. I combed the last 70 or so pages of this thread, and I don't believe this has been said yet, but I can't be sure as sometimes I was half-asleep.

There is no rage mode. The rage mode was debunked as someone who was using a 3rd party program.

Further, the rage mode noted for increasing the rate at which Cave Cherax bite one's line is also bunk. I spent many, many hours fishing them, and while they do bite in streaks, this is no different than how many other fish bite during certain times, and not at others.

Assuming you were using meatballs, you could have had either a Sea Zombie, Gugrusaurus, Ryugu Titan, or Titanictus on your line. Gugrusaurus are are noted as being a lot easier to catch on the Selbina-Mhuara ferry, compared to the Al Zahbi one. So while I don't doubt that you did catch a gugrusaurus, the one that got away could have been another fish perhaps, or it could have just been a particularly tough gugrusaurus.

I'm terribly sorry to keep posting and clogging the thread, but there's something that has really started to get on my nerves. It's also probably going to make me look like a newbiepooper for asking, but I've had a glass of wine and my inhibitions are low.

A lot of action screenshots of fishing show the camera view sharing the same view as your character, but I always fish with my camera facing my character because my brain doesn't do well with quick-response "do opposite of what your rod is doing" for fishing. I'm really f'ing tired of looking at myself. I SORTA remember years and years ago that there was a command to change your arrows on a numpad to do opposite of what you tell them... can anyone understand what I'm getting at and let me know how I can also share the wonders of the whale on the ferry and eventually the Lik lake dragon instead of my stupid mithra?

Unfortunately, the best solution I could find up was to go to your menu with - on keypad, go to config > misc. 2 > keyboard type to compact, then key assignment in there. Once in the key assignment menu, change the move left and move right buttons to their opposites, or whatever key is comfortable. (You can't put it on the keypad though, since compacts don't have it. ; ; )

Then, when you're done fishing, just swap your keyboard type back to full.

This makes me wish I could go back through this thread and delete Urat's horrible theories of ebisu rage mode and additional effects from overwhelming water energy.

Fishing Matsya at the moment, full moon, east bridge (the one near where you teleport out to campaign). Have those 125 Dwarf Pugil to burn. Advanced support, seagull/albatross, mooching, moglification, ebisu, smock, waders, and other fishing gear. And Trainee's Spectacles for looks.

Out of the first 12 bait (~25 minutes), I've had 6 line snaps, 3 successful catches, and 3 mobs. Also fished up two items, to save bait. No jellyfish bites (currently on my second stack of dwarf pugils; just got a jellyfish bite, so I know they are down there).

With mooching and albatross ring active, you get the "time running out" message when the song has played 1.5 times! That's a hell of a lot of time! With just mooching, you get the same amount of time as you would using an albatross ring on gugrusauri (that is, getting the message about 3/4 of the way through the song). I used one charge on albatross ring, but I'm not going to bother anymore, because I can drain the Matsya long before the "time warning" message is coming up.

Matsya are by far easier to fish up than either gugrusauri or lik. They drain moderately fast, do not regain a lot of health if you mis-hit/mis-time (like with gugru), and the rod stays left/right as long as it would fighting a gugru (about 2 rod "bounces").

Question: I know arrowwood logs count as a (!!!) message, but do they act like normal items, where the rod stays in the center for a long time? The !!! messages I've been getting have gone along with an actively moving rod that easily drains, which I'm assuming are mobs. I'd try to fish one up, but I'm sticking to the east bridges, and there isn't a zone close enough to zone mobs (currently THF/DNC, so no form of sneak that will stay on long enough to sneak fish).

    Edit:
    Out of 125 bait...

    Matsya Caught: 21
    Line snaps: 35
    Mobs: 48
    Jellyfish: 20

Items on my line: 26 (regained 25 of my bait; accidentally lost one by letting an item off the hook)

Total fishing time: ~ 2 hours, 45 minutes.

Largest Matsya caught today: 824 Im, 4203 Pz

All fish were drained successfully of stamina. Line snaps are just a result of Matsya's high level.

    @@ nice haul!

if I could ask a question: Does Matsya bite both drills and pugils like wiki says? Do you know if the fish has a preference for one or the other?

I know wiki is fairly reliable, but some of the fishing MMM info was discouragingly misleading, so now I tend to second guess it.

I haven't tried using drill calamary, though now that you mention it, I did have a couple in storage (less than a stack). Not enough to check for bite preference, but I'm pretty sure both bait work equally well.

Of course, even if drill calamary did have a higher bite rate, the time needed to get a lot of drill calamary would be significantly more than the time it takes to get ddwarf pugils.

You can use a controller and hold it upside down if you want a ghetto fix.

Damn. Titanictus.com closed down. I think I was browsing their site when it happened, too...

It sucks because there was the thread that kept track of record-breaking fish, and not all that information got carried over to wiki. Plus, a lot of my notes for the brigand's chart fight and a bunch of other peoples' testimonials are now gone. There was a lot of good information; wish we could have gotten a warning so we could save some of it.

So I've finally managed to get my hands on the Conditioning Contract rune! Has anyone ever figured out what it does? and what the "specific rune" it talks about is? (edit: obviously in the fishing mazes. its results in EXP mazes seem to be pretty well documented)

I remember hearing the majority of speculation be that it combines with Lost and Found to (presumably) get better drops. Has anyone checked anything a little easier to test/notice?

I'll obviously be trying LostandFound + ConditioningContract tomorrow morning to see what happens, but was curious if anyone had any initial results.

    Hi Nibu,

I was the one who was taking care of the fish sizes on titanictus.com. I found out a few days ago like you that it just shutdown all of a sudden. I have a word document that has all of the values if anyone is interested:

    http://home.comcast.net/~bungeebear/Fish%20Limits.doc

Hopefully someone can incorporate this information into another place that is easy for everyone to access.

    Thanks
    Bungee
