Spiffy! Thanks for being such an active part of the titanictus.com community and keeping those records updates. I'm really sad to see such a valuable site get taken down, but it's understandable since activity really started slowing down.

I'll update the sizes on ffxiclopedia's record page.

I've been lurking this thread for some time now, came back to the game beginning of March, and like many people got into fishing because it's not only really cool, but it's a great money maker. This thread has been tremendous help, I've gone from 36 to 77 since I started in April. Sadly Ebisu fish on Shiva are very sparse (and I don't have an easy way to WW), so I'm a little behind on prep for the rod.

I'm also around this level, but swapping back and forth between Talacca and Nash. I'm finding the Pelican pretty erratic however. There will be days (same moon phase) where it's awesome, and days where it's outright awful. Are you getting constantly good results or are you unlucky some days as well?

Random shit is still random. From my experience it doesn't "up your rate of skill ups" it just gives you 2 chances at a skill up. So lets say it's a basic /random system when you reel in a fish 950-999 = skill up, 0-950 = no skill up (yes I know there are 0.1, .2, etc, it's a broad example deal with it)

    No Pelican's: Reel in fish
/Random -> Skill up or no skill up
    DONE

    Pelican's Ring: Reel in fish
/Random -> Skill up or no skill up
/Random -> Skill up or no skill up
    DONE

Yea, makes sense. I consider myself pretty lucky, already seen 2x 0.2s, so that was cool. And I'm definitely trying to fish during full moon, in my experience it's definitely helped.

Hey, recently got Ebisu and soon to get Mooching and was just wondering what the bite rate/catch rate/line break rate is like on Matsya. Is it even worth the effort to get all the bait for these?

I haven't tried it but from what I have read....no. I wanna try to get one one day as a trophy fish to show off in my bazaar but it's too much work getting the baits, then getting a bite, and then even reeling one in.

I used to fish fairly often on my first character, and actually got my Lu Shang back when all you had to do to reel in a fish was hit enter. I'm going to start fishing on my second character, and I'm pretty much working from scratch. This char currently has 0 skill. The only plus is 100 WW and 60 Alchemy.

I figure the first thing I want to work on is getting another Lu Shang and I kind of want to do it by catching the moats. Back then, Rabao was the Moat Carp mecca since Moats bit fairly often and Sandfish skilled you up to 56. Is this still the case after all those years or are there better Moat Carp spots nowadays? Is insect ball still the bait of choice? Thanks for the help.

well the two best spots for fishing moat carp are the waterfall drop off in dragon's aery and the small pond in the bottom right corner of E-9 in rolanberry fields. insect paste will only target moat carp, items, and monsters.

if you're in your 40s and still haven't gotten your lu, then yeah, rabao is still a great place to fish.

Knightwell in Ronfaure is also good until you're 11. Ready access to fishing supplies when you run out of bait, from Sandy nearby. Wouldn't suggest Rabao if you intend on moat+skilling same time since sandfish don't bite well until 30~ish.

Kida's guide, though a little outdated, still has the best Moat+Skill path up to 50 I've yet found.

Had a good string of luck on the the Ferry the other day. Got .8 of a level in about 3-4 trips on the boat. I ran out of bait so I didn't stick it out, but I'm that much closer to level 25.

Heya folks! Long time listener first time caller... or least it feels like that after reading this whole thread! First off let me say thank you for all the information in this thread, it's been very helpful and inspiring.

I'm currently lvl 40 fishing (and yes working on my lu shang's like there is no tomorrow using 3 chars in 10 days I've bought/fished up 5,680 carps -.-) and hope to finish the rod quest soon. As recommended in here somewhere I chose rabao to fish up the majority of my carps and promptly discovered that sandfish don't sell on my server! However I have 95 cooking and decided to keep them all in the hope I can use them in making tav taco's eventually!

Now to my question... I understand that unlike other crafts in fishing you can catch things much higher level than your skill however is there a limit to how far you can take this? The other ingredients in taco's are noble ladys (which I know i can catch), Bastore Bream which is lvl 86 and Grimmonite which is lvl 90. Do you think once I get lu shangs I'll be able to fish these up or should I start npcing the sandfish now to turn into moat carps?

Keep up the good work and happy fishing!

    1) keep the sandfish to make anchovies, which are used in marinara sauce, which are used in marinara pizza.

    2) statistically, with likely an albatross ring, you would be able to catch the occasional bream and grim, but nowhere near reliably and regularly. what i would suggest is finding a parallel fish in value, and fishing those, selling them, and buying the bream. at your level, you'll have the best results with shall shells (which on alexander, sell for the exact same price as bream). you'll not only get skillups, but you won't be as frustrated. you'll probably just have to bite the bullet and buy grims, but they aren't terribly expensive anymore.

you'll be able to fish in SSG comfortably around 60.

    good luck!

Just dinged 97.3, and from what I've seen, I also had a terrible dry spell around 94.7-96. After 96 it went back to normal

Thank you kindly for your help! Instead of a mule full of sandfish I now have 2 full of anchovy and marinara sauce!

So sick of fishing carp... this rod had better kick so much ass!

So, im at 85 fishing. Should I still keep fishing in the Cove till 96 or is there a better spot to go to?

I'd say fish there at least until 90, since after 86, two out of the three fish you can catch with shrimp lure can give you skillups (Ahtapot -90 ; Dil - 96). After that, I believe I moved to Qufim to fish Black Sole until 96, and after that, Lik and Armored Pisces (I'd do the latter if you're interested solely in skillups; maybe do Lik if you have the right rings for it and are interested in money or ebisu).

Edit: My 90-96 suggestion may be atypical. I know others do Pterygotus until 99 in Nashmau.

    NPC Prices

    Hello!

Which fishes can be sold to a fairly good profit to the NPC (besides Matsya)?

In the 80s+ Id make a fair mint fishing up ahtapots/mercs in nashmau and NPCing them to the dice QQ at the far end of nashmau, generally made about 20~30K an hour, was good money for when my AH is full and I still wanna make some cash.
