New rusty weapons probably come from gutting some of these new guys, or maybe the bait does. Will try turning in matsya in a few hours.

Just got home. When the servers go up, I may try trading a Matsya, but then again, I may wait until new moon comes around (which is another couple of hours) "just in case."

Also, the "Dried Squid" bait is RARE/EX. This should be fun. ::gut gut gut gut bait! warp, cast, snapped line, warp, gut gut gut gut...::

Maybe it's RA/EX because it's used to fish up a particular NM. Hmmm! Gut Matsya for a chance at RA/EX bait, fish up and kill NM, get super cool item?

For now, though, I'm going to blind myself to reason and hope I haven't wasted my time fishing up those Matsya.

Because spending hours upon hours of time fishing Cherax, to get bait from 1/4 of them, to successfully catch a matsya using 1/6 of THAT bait, is going to be worth the 25k you NPC them for.

Doing the math, I made about 25k an hour after all was said and done, which isn't really good compared to any other good NPCable fish. Plus you don't have to constantly warp/trade to get your gil.

Also, SE mentioned to "not turn them in to Zaldon just yet" in an update note quite awhile ago, so there's still hope.

Is frog fishing worth it or useful at all? 30k gp is about 1 cycle but that's 30k i could be getting in cooking again.

Soooooooo I noticed that there was a logging point in Lathiene abyssea... has anyone tried fishing in the lake yet? There were quite a few new fish added in this update, kinda curious as to their nature.

Frog fishing allows you to fish up one fish, the tricorne, off the carpenter's landing barge. It is useful only when tricorne is the fishing ranking pick of the month and you have friends/yourself who wants pelican ring.

Basically it's a 'completion' thing and is almost not useful at any other time.
