In the fishing guide that's been reposted multiple times in this thread, is there any reason to do Nebs to the 20s if you already have a Lu? Would the bite rate on Istiridye blow chunks if I took my mule to Nash to start?

Hey all
I'm actually rather new to the fishing scene, and I have a few questions about the higher level fishies that have been added to the past/abyssea, mostly abyssea. Is there any purpose for Matsya yet?? I know existing fish like Crocodilos and King Perch, and I even fished up a Dorado Gar today, which wasn't listed on the wiki, so I created a page. Buuuut...what other fish are there? Just wondering what I should be on the lookout for and how to catch them, and any help would be appreciated if you guys have come across any. Thanks![]()
As far as I know, none of the Abyssea fish are used for anything. Unfortunately, the same can be said of Matsya (though, as everyone in here knows, I have a bunch that I'm hoping I'll be able to gut sooner or later). I don't think SE has any idea what to do with them yet, but eventually they might become useful/profitable.
Speaking of updates, it looks like that extra 250,000 gp I stocked up on will finally be of use with some of the new guild furnishing items!
Noticed this thread bumped now that crafting forum is once again at the top of the standard forum. How goes it fishermen? I haven't touched ebisu in probably a year and a half! I'm definitely curious what new furniture will do but doubt I'll spend the time getting GPs again. Glad to see you're still fishing Nibu, have you paid back your debt from ebisu fish yet lol?
Oh yeah, absolutely. A month of hard fishing + a good demand for ebisu fish allowed me to pay back my debt, re-purchase my gear, and put a good chunk of change back into my pocket. That was back in December '09, and I haven't fished for profit since (reason being that I haven't been spending my money). Started stocking up on GP after SE previewed those new guild items earlier this year at Vanafest. At least it looks like those efforts will pay off, unlike the Matsya that are still rotting on a mule (someday...someday...).
Since I'm getting ever closer to leaving this godforsaken Cove, sitting at 95.4 now, I've been thinking about what lies beyond. Aside from sitting in Nashmau or Movalpolos and buying Liks by the truckload, I've been thinking about what I'll be doing for profit in the future.
I remember reading a post here a while back about Sandfish for profit, coupled with Sabiki. Is there a list of fish that can be caught with Sabiki anywhere? I took a look on wiki, but none of the fish I found were any more profitable than Sandfish.
Aside from Sandfish, there's Trumpet Rings and their unfortunate bite rates, and Ebisu fish (once I get one of my own), and then only lies the hellish thought of fishing more Dils, Mercs, and Ahtapots. Sandfish have the supply and demand problem (as do Ebisu fish, plus the need to keep getting those rings), and Trumpet Ring has a rather lackluster bite rate. I doubt I could sell more than four stacks of Sandfish a day. For Trumpet rings, I think I'd be lucky to get 100 a day, which is a bit better if I level Bone, but not much better. Is there really no other choice for good profit aside from Ebisu fish with a buyer?
Use http://www.great-blue.jp/?lng=en to find fish that bite on sabiki rig.
I haven't fished for profit in a while, though I was surprised how much Nebimonites were being sold for per stack (~14k). And Gigant Squid are now 6k each on Carbuncle.
For the record, way back in the day I used to fish in rabao for money and skill-ups. I would get lots of gil by selling stacks of moat carp at the nearby Sandy AH, and I would get the occasional skillup off of sandfish.
...I can't tell you how many sandfish I NPC'd for 26 gil apiece. There was simply no demand for them. How times have changed (with the addition of new recipes, of course)
edit: In other news, I'm logging on to mule over my Matsya onto my main again. Gotta keep hope that one of these updates will make 'em useful. Maybe a stealth Zaldon update, or maybe involved in a quest for the new guild furniture. The last time I was this far in denial was when I was going after Ebisu...
Two more of those -ryu fish are being added: Hakuryu and Sekiryu. Did anyone find out how to catch the other ones yet, or if they were ever available?
Also, more fish will be accepted by Zaldon.
They added in Judge Fly (lure). There used to only be a Judge Minnow.
Noddy Ring and Puffin Ring
Noddy Ring, Rare, level 15: Fishing skill (artisan and above):
Reduces chances of fishing up
monsters.
Puffin Ring, Rare, level 15: Fishing skill (journeyman and above):
Increases chances of fishing up large
prey.
Damn, equipping both of those probably makes fishing Matsya a bit less infuriating, seeing as how a lot of ex bait is lost to mobs and jellyfish. Plus, it makes Mooching viable because you'd be having to fish Matsya without the help of the Albatross ring (Mooching gives just as much time as the albatross ring effect).
Fishing fatigue has been recalculated so that players will not tire as easily.

It's looking like my download is going to be another 2.5 hours; if I can get on in time, going to try to trade Zaldon a matsya. If anyone else gets the chance before me, please post results.
E: My download keeps on getting disrupted. Probably won't be able to do this anytime soon.
Keep an eye out for the new guttable fish/items here: http://wiki.ffo.jp/html/1338.html
JP wiki tends to update this information relatively quickly. Scroll all the way to the bottom for the latest ones once they are posted.

God, I really don't know how I feel about that. Of course, it comes as I'm just about to move on to larger prey, but god, would I have spent MORE TIME fishing in a single day had this existed before? I'll see if I have the energy tonight to see what the difference is. Update should be done in a few minutes and aside from getting a sack and starting a few quests, I'm not in the mood to do much but fish anyway. Leveling and gear will wait for another day.
Also, the guild stall (Fishermen's Stall - Beech Lumber, Oak Lumber x 4, Grass Cloth, Fishermen's Emblem, Fastwater Fishing Rod) seems to use the new GP item to make it, and requires fishing skill and Adept Synergy skill. Glad to make one less piece of furniture, really. Stockfish (Iron Ingot, Rosewood Lumber, Bastore Sardine x 2, Bastore Bream x 2, Quus x 2) is the other new Fishing Synergy item, which is the other piece of furniture.
Stockfish
Furnishing:
A variety of cured fish that would make for a tasty and nutritious addition to any adventurer's ration pack.
Fishermn. Stall
Furnishing:
A stall employed by the Fishermen's Guild when hawking their catches of the day at bazaars and marketplaces.
Fishermn. Emblem
The familiar emblem of the Fishermen's Guild.
No clues as to what the furniture might do.
Man Nibu I've been sitting here in suspense and you're leaving me hanging!!! Any news on Matsya yet?! How many GP are the Emblems? I've been stuck at connecting for hours now -.-
I, uhhhhh, didn't check. :X Broke my cap, started some emote trials, got my sack, and went fishing. I'll let you know on the fatigue system, anyway. I'm 105 fish in, so I can't tell much yet. So far there's been a normal junk item distribution, though it the amount of junk reels doesn't seem to have increased. By 130 fish or so I should start seeing increased recasts normally, so we'll see if that happens, as well as whether junk items start to crop up more often on the approach to 200. Then, of course, I'll check whether I can break 200.
Truthfully I would have been better off testing this on Moats, but since Cove was bound to be nearly empty (one person came in when I did, which is presumably a fishbot mule or RMT, since they never, ever leave), and since I was 0.4 (now 0.3) away from 96, I couldn't waste my chance not having to deal with 1/10 catches. I'll update when I reach 200 and I'll try to track my junk/catch ratio over the next week.
Crocodilos and Dorado Gar are guttable according to JP wiki. Just got back from school, logging on.
Emblem is 15,000 GP. Net and Lure is 50,000 GP. Going to Zaldon
Did not accept Matsya.
Supposedly, finishing 1st place in fish ranking gets you access to a 20mp refresh atma. I'm not a mage, but I'm glad I finished 1st when I did, without all the incoming competition.
What Net are you talking about Nibu?
Annnnnd how do we know that finishing 1st allows access to the atma?? Is it possible that it is top 2 or top 3? Or just 1st? o.oa I wonder what Crocs and Dorados are going to yield from Zaldon...cant wait to explore with my new Ebisu
Well, first things first: 200 cap is not broken. The fatigue change is almost certainly simply a slow down of the soft fatigue. After 200 fish caught, there were 49 items (with GP body) and 30 monsters, all canceled. Recast times never broke five to six seconds, where I'd estimate it usually grows to about eight to nine seconds. Also note, it usually takes me about six hours to reach the hard cap in the Cove, where it took me around four to four and a half hours tonight. I'll track the next few days, but since the hard cap certainly isn't broken, that really only leads to one conclusion.
Edit: Yesterday's results mirrored the day before. Decreased soft fatigue, recast took a long while to grow, and items were less frequent overall. Fishing is now a faster affair for those with the patience for 200 pulls.
In other news, hit 96 yesterday. Cove be damned! Moving on to profit fish for the time being. I'm saving 100 for an Ebisu. Once I can acquire it, unless I find a reason not to, I'm going to start fishing up Crocodilos and Dorado Gar to see what they'll deliver.
