ya, my Opal silk was on last one also now that I think about it. My Saber Shoot I had like 12 fish left over though.
Time to start on my Noddy.

LMAO, Noddy Ring:

Grats!
I'm saying that 100/170 Hakuryu bites is a very low sample size for line snap data. Number of casts is irrelevant to line snaps, since the only thing that matters is the percentage of Hakuryu that break the line with each respective lure. It would take thousands of Hakuryu bites to get accurate enough data to say one lure presents definitively more breaks than the other.
By the way, if you have a good parser method I wouldn't mind helping out with your data. I can't promise I'd bother if I can't parse it though, since counting fish is painfully tedious. I could never figure out how to get KParser working with fishing.
As for the other person commenting on fish fatigue, the other day I had an unusually long string of no bites after 44 fish (not just Hakuryu - Black Sole were included), but I stopped fishing for fifteen minutes and came back and everything went back to normal. I can fish to cap (210) with Hakuryu and Black sole consistently.
As an aside, twice in my fishing career I've seen my character go either under the cap or over the cap, both with Ebisu. The first time I got 213 fish, then the very next day I capped at 207. The last time I got 207 fish, and the very next day 213 fish. I'm guessing it's a glitch regarding how the game allows ten extra fish with Ebisu, but curious all the same.
Apologies for the late reply, but yes I did have Serpent Rumors (but didn't have Mooching, not that it matters) at the time.
I was hoping to use Beaucedine as a skillup path from 90-100, but I guess I'll have to reverse course on that if I can't actually catch a Hakuryu ^^;;;
I've been playing around with Black Sole in Qufim and Sauromugue, but I'm finding that I only catch around 7 on average per Pelican Ring charge with a sinking minnow.
I get about the same amount of dil in Talacca plus other fish for profit, so it looks like I'll be in Talacca until 96.
Assuming I have an Albatross + Seagull Ring, is 92 base skill too early to start catching my own Ebisu fish?
Looks like some good changes coming fishings way in the next update. Was getting kinda tired of playing the guessing game on big fish in some areas.
I've been fishing up Liks for my ebisu. I reached 99 today. Also, I have since received 2 .3 skill ups today. I was able to screenshot one of them. Though I'd honestly prefer to have my luck be with gutting the fishies.
That's pretty commongrats though
BGWiki and OtherWiki state that the Fisherman's Apron "Reduces chances of fishing up items," as per the screen capture. Does anyone know by exactly how much? or at least, how much it "feels" like. Is it, at the very least, noticeable?
The Apron could be seen merely as a stepping stone to the Fisherman's Smock, however even that gives little more than +1 to fishing skill--nothing that can't be gotten from an ordinary Fisherman's Tunica.
So, is the "Item Reduction" worth the guild points?
Ehhhh I'd get it if you already have other stuff, other than that I never really saw it as omgamazing
Got some guy on my server camping the ferrys on mules hardcore buying up the sinking minnows, so they are constantly overpriced, how long does it take for them to fall back to 691 so i can make sure im there.
this is such a general & (i admit) stupid question that i'm sure it's been covered before, but i just can't figure it out. after literally a 4 year break in fishing i decided to try and level it some more the other night. i am only level 20, i uncapped that tier (20 is white, not blue, in my craft list). i went through 7 stacks of insect balls, a bunch of stacks of little worms, and every lure i had sitting around (minnows, sinking minnows, worms, aka great waste of money), and EVERY single cast the line broke (maybe three times i just had nothing bite). i tried at the pond in west saruta, the lake in jugner, windurst waters, and korroloka tunnel - basically everywhere every guide i could find mentioned for the 20s. what's the deal? i know i'm going to feel really stupid but is there something incredibly obvious that i'm missing? for rods i was using composite, mithran, and halcyon. it seems like i covered every possible combination from the guides that i looked at.
Not sure what you were hooking but whatever you were hooking was too big for your current skill level or the rod in question.
If you want a suggestion, go to Sea Serpent Grotto, the lake with the bridge over it, halcyon + shrimp lure, and cancel all !!!'s (monsters or grimmonites) as well as the one ! which you won't be able to pull up (bastore bream), and just fish nebimonites til you're 28.
well that sounds like a decent plan, thank you Aihree. it just seemed weird to me that across 4 areas w/multiple rods & baits EVERYTHING would break it, but maybe it was just a coincidence at that level. thanks again though!
If you do go to SSG, don't fish directly under the bridge. SE patched it so you will hardly ever get bites while fishing under the bridge.
Also, while the "new" fishing system was implemented in 2005, and you said you only took a 4 year break, I just want to make sure that you are actually draining the fish's stamina bar completely before trying to pull it up.
edit: Also, the fishing messages are different since the last major update.
thanks for the comments nibu. it might even be more than 4 years - my account was off since mid 2009 until this past new years (i'm really glad i came back too, it's fun again) but i hadn't fished for a long time before even then too. i remember the change that added the stamina bar and i definitely wasn't even getting that far the other night. thanks for the tip about the bridge too!
