Did some long term fishing (this was off and on over one long day) while parsing results, thought someone might be interested in the results.
Zone: Glacier
Gear: Ebisu/Sinking Minnow/Smock/Waders/+1hands/+1legs (no furnishings... I know I know...)/Noddy/Puffin

I cancelled all catches except Hakuryu, hence the large cast/caught variance. I found it quite interesting that the bite rate was so low out here..

Bite rate: 55%
% of bites that were Hakuryu: 20.9%
% of Hakuryu that were linesnaps: 28.2%

My #'s should be pretty accurate. I'm considering doing a run without the rings to compare numbers, but I kind of don't want to give up on the extra gil >.>. Sorry I forgot to save day/moon phase, will try and get that next time. You can probably figure it out if you want... it was yesterday 2/16 from about 8am PST until the night PST off/on.

Also, a little foreshadowing, I hope to release a fishing plugin for windower this year that will parse the results, but I'm still in a very early stage of that.

Hi people. i know you guys have been talking about the new fish for a while but i was hoping to get some advice from the ebisu holders. I have just hit 90+ have my Lu's, also aquired Serpent Rumors. what is the best way to go about fishing Liks and Gugs, someone said i need "Mooching" to be able to fish them using Drills and Dwarfs but i cant find any other info. Do i even stand a chance of fishing up Lik/Gug before i reach 100? I have tried for a while with meatballs on the ferry and minnow in missy coast but to no avail. Am i missing something else?

If you wish to fish gugs and liks with drills and dwarfs, you need the Mooching key item.

Otherwise you can obtain a penguin ring and albatross ring and these should allow you to fish them up using meatballs. Mooching + special bait is the same as using albatross ring and extends the amount of time you can keep the fish on the hook while you try to pull them in.

To be more clear here, you're much better off getting the rings if you want to catch the fish. Drill Calamary in particular are a bitch to obtain, since they can only be garnered through gutting Sea Zombies, which can only be caught on a pirate ship. With a ~25% gut rate on top of that, you'll be fishing for a lot longer than you want to if you bother going that route. Dwarfs aren't so bad to obtain, but Lik are the easier of the two legendaries in the first place. And besides, Mooching is 115k GP.

Definitely go with the Albatross Ring, but I'd recommend the Seagull Ring instead of the Penguin Ring, since the Seagull Ring doesn't involve charges.

I finally started fishing Hakuryu back up today after taking a break and fishing Gugrus for my man. Today was his lucky day, even luckier than I was, going 1/35ish. Anyways, I think it is absolutely ridiculous that I sometimes get good feeling messages about Hakuryu. No way those would ever be a good feeling.

Also, I noticed a wiki page was made for those bad boys, complete with Finbar and my K-twin fighting it out on the talk page. Entertained me for at least 15 minutes!

And lastly, has anyone actively fished the other legendary that resides in Abys-Altepa? When it first came out the NM cactuar didn't live by that pond...but every time I've been back he has been roaming and I have no desire to die a death by cactus. Just wondering if the bite rate/break rate would be worth risking my life

As for the Abyssea legendaries:

Soryu is fished up in Abyssea - Misareaux at the sea cliffs (around flux 8 ) with a Sinking Minnow. Bite rate blows -.-
Kokuryu is fished up in Abyssea - Vunkerl on the bridges with a Minnow (and maybe meatballs?). Bite rate also blows according to Phellia <3
Sekiryu is fished up in Abyssea - Altepa at the southern oasis using a Sinking Minnow. Bite rate is better than the first two! Breaks the line though, so be careful.
Hakuryu is fished up in Beaucedine Glacier at the cliffs using a Minnow. Yes. I said Beaucedine Glacier. As in NO WHERE NEAR ABYSSEA. I will never understand SE.

Basically, they are all the same legendary fish, just with different names/locations. I don't recall if they all NPC for the same amount.

Pretty sure someone confirmed that they do sell for the same amount somewhere in this thread. Haven't tried fishing them myself.

Hah! Hah. Hah... I only stopped responding because it was becoming a battle of the last word. And, you know, because it's just a goddamn wikia page. For one fish. I still don't agree with 'im on all accounts (the two lures likely have the same snap rate - and I said pages ago that Sinking Minnow was better anyway because it pulls in less fish, parsers be damned), but respect given where respect is due; He did listen to me, at least.

Just one more question, though. I capped out on 28 (twenty eight!) Hakuryu yesterday. I did fish some guild fish first but not many...and I remember seeing someone say they got almost 60 fish in one day. Is that even possible? And if so, how? 28 seems like such a small number for one day

I fish ~28 or so on average in a day of fishing, I really don't think you capped out though. The only reason I stop there is I run out of bait (I always start with 21 lures). Few times in the last few weeks I've fished 50ish in a day, so it's definitely doable. You probably just hit a rut of no baits, which I've seen quite a bit.

My cast/bite rate (posted numbers a few posts back) are usually about 50%, so it's not uncommon to go 10 or more casts in a row without a bite, then catch 3 Hakuryu in a row. Just be patient.

Someone claimed to fish 100 in a day... I've attempted to hit that, but the ONLY WAY I see it possible (i've never come close) is if you just happen to get mega lucky with your lures/breaks, fish 20 or so hours straight, and start with 50-100 lures in your inventory. If I hit 50 I think I'm king of the world as is...

I just hit 54 Fishing last night, and am looking where to skill-up next. Unfortunately, I have no Lu's, been putting off saving up the gil for it. Any ideas on zone/rod/bait?

Getting your Lu Shang ought to be top priority. It makes a world of difference. In the meantime you can still skill on noble ladies while riding the ferry and hauling in nebs for moat carp funds. Just grab your Halcyon and a shrimp lure. Once you wear that out SSG's pretty nice, although I can't vouch for Halcyon's ability to withstand Breams for extended fishing sessions.

Agreed with above, concentrate on LuShangs. You will want it. For at least 2 more levels you can go to Windurst Waters and do Moat Carp / Gold Carp with Insect Balls. Gold Carp NPCs fairly decent and will skill you to 56. Plus in Windy Waters Insect Balls isolates you to only Moat and Gold Carp. No tricolor crap like Sandy.

Whore yourself out, sell a child, whatever, get 2m for a Lu, then goto Nashmau and start making 100k+ a day straight to npc. You'll have paid back your loan/bought your own Lu in less than a month while gaining 20-30 levels.

I haven't fished them yet but a few things pop in my mind: #1 are you using +skill gear, #2 are you using support?, #3 You can get Ebisu at skill level 78, what skill level are you?
