I don't mean at the time, IIRC if you /fish on a job under level 20 at any point in time it gimps your fishing even if you switch back to lv90.

1) I think they are very pimp, and I'm pretty sure other fishers who are after large fish would agree. Especially awesome for catching Hakuryu.
2) To catch the Pelazoeas, I found an amazing bite rate with Shell Bugs. I think someone else posted having good luck with another lure? But Shell Bugs gave me 10 bites/12 casts most of the time.
To catch the Crocodilos, meatballs are your best bet. They bite pretty often but expect to lose a bunch due to lack of skill, they are harder than haks and gugs to catch >.>
3) Personally, I used noddy over puffin because I feel like I always hook too many monsters on the ferry. For Liks I'd use puffin.
4) The setup I use now has a Minnow as bait, both puffin and noddy ring, as well as waders/smock/2other+fishskill items. I use minnow over sinking b/c they are easier and cheaper to get a hold of.
Thank you ^
I didn't mean at the time either. I never fish on a low lvl job and over the last few days have only fished this. Plus I always fish on blm. Always

I don't bot!!!
jk
I would but I have a hard time reeling them in... in fact my normal bot that I use couldn't even real them in. Even the knew one I got can't actually get them lower than 30%. At least without using rings. I really don't understand how other people are unless they are using support and either the latent or the enchantment rings unless the fight on them is also different for different players in the same gear
try using cpukiller or cpugrabber to slow the game fps down to about 15-16(set affinity on pol.exe to single core in task manager and set cpugrabber affinity to same one so it doesn't slow your whole pc(have to click show processes from all users to set affinity on pol.exe if using W7/vista)). Fishing on PC is a lot harder than on ps2 is probably why you're unable to reel them in. I don't know if it requires albatross, penguin, or seagull ring to reel them in normally as I've not been able to fish them myself just yet. FWIW I have never had issues reeling in liks or gugs with just albatross when running FF at 15fps, so I would be surprised if hakuryu required anything more than albatross.(no moglification here)
I do know that I have no chance vs a lot of fish without slowing ffxi down, even fish that I just 10 levels below sometimes i lose the catch from time expiration unless I lower fps.
Hmmmm sad that have to do that. Well shouldn't have to use rings since the guy next to me is using noddy/puffin. I'll try that than. It's weird though cause besides that and crocs nothing else makes me even use rings to get them all the way down
I tried to cap out on Hakuryus yesterday. I ended up with this:

I have no clue what the 3 unknowns but it doesn't matter.
skillups not going as planned today gonna be tomorrow before i can test titanictus probably.
Odd for some reason even without doing the cpu grabber thing I'm catching them just fine today. Haven't even gotten the not sure how much longer you can keep it on the line message anymore... weird that the first day I couldn't get a single one to even 30% lol
So yeah pulling them in easy no and at 49 so far in the course of about 7 hours and not capped. A little slower than I was before but considering I capped at 11-21 the other days I'm doing good. Thanks for all the help
[dev1008] Fishing Improvements on the Way
The forthcoming version update will see two refinements aimed at anglers of Vana'diel: more informative fishing messages and the introduction of a "critical bite" system.
New fishing messages
Messages displayed upon getting a bite will indicate the size and type of your potential catch as follows:
Small fish: "Something caught the hook!"
Large fish: "Something caught the hook!!!"
Non-fish targets: "You feel something pulling at your line."
Monsters: "Something clamps onto your line ferociously!"
Critical bites
Players with fishing skill surpassing the rank of their target will register a critical bite, and be rewarded with advance knowledge as to the identity of their prey.
Ex.: (When scoring a critical bite against a black sole)
"Something caught the hook!
Your keen angler's senses tell you that this is the pull of a black sole!"
Scoring a critical bite will also slow the target's stamina recovery in the event of improper reeling, allowing players to reel in lower-level fish with greater ease.
We will also be implementing the next stage of efficiency tweaks and refinements to the fishing system code itself, a process which began last patch with the goal of allowing for a greater range of adjustments in the future. We will continue to monitor game balance and adjust the system as necessary.
Furthermore, we intend to preserve the timing-dependent minigame nature of the fishing system, and make balance tweaks and adjustments accordingly. We are also aware of the significant outstanding issues with RMT abuse and difficulty imbalances related to players’ system environments, and will continue working towards a viable solution. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Talila: I don't say "no offense" unless I know offense can be construed where I don't intend it. You don't know me well enough to know that, but I in no way meant to insult you. You do test your theories, which I think we all appreciate. Theorycrafting is a basis of this MMO more than almost any other, thanks to how incredibly cryptic SE is about every system in the game. However, I agree with cdgreg that people tend to jump to conclusions based on theories that are given without evidence. This is particularly a problem with fishing, because fishing is something few people test because there are so few incentives. Most people only care about whether they can pull a fish in or not. Few seek more answers than that, so unsubstantiated theories end up being more prevalent than legitimate, tested theories. You belong in the latter category, Talila, which is a great thing, but it's still a danger to make posts of the former kind at the risk of people jumping to conclusions.
So my comparison to urat was a warning, not an insult. He was the epitome of "unsubstantiated," and thus it came to mind. I had no intention to offend you, so if you're still offended I'll withdraw my comparison.
Kalila: Your screen name is far too close to Talila's! I think I had you both in mind when I made the urat comment, so that complicates it a bit. Regardless, no harm, no foul. It's good that you're doing testing, though I still think by now it's a clear case of Sinking Minnow being the clear winner in almost every respect.
Finally, I know this is in the news forum, but I'm pretty sure this belongs here:
Edit: I was beaten! See above.
The specific messages are a damn welcome change. I've been sick and tired of having to test for items and monsters for a long time, even if they're easy to discern after a bijillion legendary fish. I can't complain about the critical bites, but it won't be very useful day to day whatsoever.
The best news for me is the recognition that the dependence on system environments is imbalanced. As dasva and shaddix were talking about above, it's completely asinine that PC players have to slow down their computer to pull in some fish, while PS2 players can fish with ease.
I'm not sure what they're planning for the rest of it. Anything to make it more difficult for RMT would be nice, but player side adjustments proved not to do a damn thing. It's only the more careful, high level RMT that persist anyway, as far as I know. Hakuryu is the main RMT goal now, as far as I know, so I'm not sure how they can prevent abuse.
They could always lower the NPC cost... /cry
I'm sorry I take it back! Don't read my post SE![]()
