Unless they can find a way to outright kill fishbots, any changes they make are just gonna end up screwing over legitimate fishermen while leaving the RMTs to run free as usual. Dunno what they think they're gonna accomplish.

Critical bites seem slightly redundant when you can already discern most fish by their line behavior. I'm digging the "You have a monster on your line" message though, it's about damn time they fixed their fuck-up with that one.

Unfortunately, they'll never find a legitimate way to get rid of fishbots, because of how they work. They could maintain what they've been doing of current at least-- catching the afk fishbotter.

Also liking the discernment thingy they wish to add. It might help tell how Ebisu works and whether it has the supposed +10 Fishing Skill everyone thinks it has.

    Yep, this right here.

I finally went out to try Hakuryu a couple weeks ago just to see how they fight, using noddy/puffin, no advanced support, and a bunch of fishing+ gear. Not knowing what I was going into, I couldn't pull it in, and left it with a good chunk of stamina remaining. From the sounds of it, this might not have been the case if I was on a PS2. Same goes for gugrusaurus and lik. I recall being pretty upset that I was having to put so much more effort into pulling those suckers up than a PS2 player.

They'll probably make fishing easier on the PC to make it equal with PS2, though it'd be kind of funny if they just made fishing harder on the PS2 to make it equal with the PC. As long as everyone is equal, I wouldn't mind, but I would feel a bit sorry for people who bought PS2 + HDD just to fish (I know I considered it at one point...).

Amen here, first thing I thought of was another way to test/verify the amount of hidden skill. Or atleast another way to determine the skill level of fish (not that it really matters?).

Fishing 68-72 all allow auto-regen on titanictus. I will test again tomorrow after I have higher base skill.

I know they mentioned nothing about gutting new fish, but thought I'd just like to add this.

During the dev panel at Fan Festival 2007, it was stated that "They will add new legendary fishes - biggest ones yet. But do not take them to Selbina yet." While Matsya was the biggest fish you could catch when WotG was released (right after Fan Festival), I just wanted to clear up that they never outright said they would make Matsya guttable. Other WotG fish that HAVE become guttable are: Gerrothorax, Gigant Octopus, Megalodon, and Pirarucu.

I forgot when those were made guttable (relatively recently?), but it does seem odd that Matsya still hasn't been added to the list. It does seem more and more like it is, as people have mentioned, just a way to get rid of excess EX bait from fishing lik/gugru (as if people use the bait for such a purpose anyways), and make a little bit of gil via NPCing at the same time. They were certainly not worth fishing up for gil when I went on a Matsya-spree, though, as the time necessary to catch/gut cherax, and then fish up Matsya, made the gil/time ratio the same as if I had simply NPCed all my cherax (was something around 30k an hour iirc). However, this was also before noddy/puffin ring, which might significantly improve Matsya results since a lot of EX bait was previously wasted on mobs/small fish.

I still have a mule with a bunch of Matsya on it, but since I'm not aching for gil, I won't be NPCing it any time soon. I'm not really expecting them to make it guttable, but who knows!

e: Update was November 2009 when they added WotG fish to guttable list. I also made a similar post about Matsya back then. Go figure.

I don't have anything to share yet, but if anyone has gotten any interesting findings with the 4 ID's in memory the correspond to each fish, please send me a PM. Thanks.

Why exactly does slowing your pc down work? Does the rod stay in place longer? I attempted this about a year ago, not using any tool, but by opening the context menu in the task bar (slows SE windower down by huge amounts) and it only made fishing harder.

Here is what I know just from observation:

    • Fish have 1 ID that is the same for all zones.
    • Items do not share the same ID across all zones and what you end up fishing up might be different depending what zone you are in.
    • Monsters seem to share the same ID's across all zones so that is fairly reliable.
    • The ID's of Fish, monsters and Items change depending on the rod you use which will make things very difficult.
    • Fish that you can reel in multiple of (like sandfish) have a separate ID for each option (x1, x2, x3). (Sandfish x1 has 1 ID, then Sandfish x2 had its own ID, so on...)

I'm sure there is much more reliable information but I don't remember it.

For some stupid ass-reason, the FPS of the game is tied to the stamina drain of the fish. So for example if you had a stupid fish that held the rod in one direction the entire time and you were getting 30fps(capped), it would take you say 15 seconds to drain him all the way down. Then if you were to take the same situation but drop your fps down to 15fps, it would only take you 9 seconds to drain it all the way down, this is how it is on ps2. It's retarded. I actually asked a GM a very long time ago about this, and the programs we use to accomplish the fps decrease and of course he said it was breaking ToS. I then asked him if it would be okay if I put a slower processor in my PC to make ffxi run slower, and he said no, it was breaking ToS to modify your computer.

Question: I am confused about the GP items. With Fisherman's stall, is the signboard obsolete? The aura strength listed for both of them on evilwiki is 10.

I updated the page, I'm not 100% sure about it but it makes sense to me anyways. Feel free to edit it if I'm completely wrong, I was just tired of it not being updated~

Ok so going by that(I currently have nothing but rumors). Order of purchase would be signboard+the big one>fisherman's stall>map(sell big one). And while I have the big one I can't use furniture that has aura strength greater than 6? I am still kind of fuzzy on all the crap I used to know back in 09

But yea, save up 200,000 GP and purchase the Fisherman's Signboard and then you should purchase The Big One until you can save up enough GP to purchase the Fishing Hole Map for 150,000 GP.

But basically here is the structure:

You start with The Big One/Fishing Hole Map and get Moghancement: Fishing Skill.
You then put the Fisherman's Signboard in your moghouse and this overwrites The Big One/Fishing Hole Map and you get Moglification: Fishing.
You then put the Fishermen's Stall in your moghouse and this overwrites the Fisherman's Signboard and you get Mega Moglification: Fishing.

From what I understand you must keep all 3 (or 4~) items in your moghouse layout for this to work.

    That's how I understand it, but I do not own the signboard yet~ I have the stall tho >.>;

    "all of us here"

They want to make it easier for new players to get into fishing, and players of old who never could get motivated to do it by making it slightly easier.

I guess, and to make it more fair for people who don't use ID readers. It isn't hard to tell which fish is what, but I guess some extra insurance that its that fish 100% might make some people happy.

so does the signboard though, are you saying the aura strength on big one doesn't matter then? If so then there's no point to the map? I thought you needed all the moglification/moghancement items to be stronger than whatever your storage crap is? I am probably pulling that out of my ass though, I honestly don't remember and I know I knew the answer to this back in 2009 -.-

I think someone who owns the furnishings would be better off answering your questions, all I have is logic and theories which have nothing to do with FF~
