damn so less than 5% even.. What was that fish with extremely high ID4? Soryu or something? That would give the most accurate measure if its anything more than a 1% decrease

Also yeah, fishing 96+4 and first hakuryu got the this strength message. Guess you just have to be 100.

Just to throw in my experiences with Seagull and Penguin rings while fishing Gugrusauri:

The penguin ring increases stamina depletion, as well as increasing the maximum time the rod would stay in a left or right position (I forget for how much longer; .5-1.5 seconds perhaps).

The seagull ring increased stamina depletion at a similar rate as the penguin ring, but did not have the added effect of added time in the left/right positions of the rod.

Good to know nibu, I plan on making a short guide of all of them soon after I finish my research on all of them.

A word of advice when trying to get penguin ring: Have someone hold the pugil that you can fish up during the event. You might already be familiar with the strategy, but let me find the post I made a long time ago that details how to best go about doing the event.

edit: Eh, looks like my original post has vanished along with the titanictus.com forums. Here's a summary I posted on Alla last year:

Old topic, but I have valuable advice to contribute regarding the Brigand's Chart quest for those still interested.

I did a lot of testing with it last year, and with the help of others' input, discovered that there is only one mob you can fish up during the event: Puffer Pugil. If you fish the pugil up during the event, instead of having someone else kill it, have someone HOLD it. By doing this, you will only fish up chests.

The key to this is to A. Get a brigand's chart on yourself and one or two others characters in your party that will be helping you, B. Stocking up on as many marlin as you can hold, and C. Setting aside a chunk of time to do these quests back-to-back.

Odds are, if you fish up the pugil, you won't have enough time to get to a 4th chest. By holding the pugil between attempts, though, all subsequent attempts will yield only chests. So, after you use your first chart, hopefully you fish up the pugil, and you have someone hold it. Then, have the next person use their chart, then the next person after that. Once all your charts are gone, start warping to Selbina to turn in MORE marlin to get more charts.

By the end of the day, you will have fished up more than a few 4th and 5th chests in the event (those the are able to yield penguin rings), and hopefully have found a few rings. One word of caution, though: The puffer pugil slowly gains in strength every 10-15 minutes (if I recall correctly; the interval may be shorter). It's not by very much, but by having him out of water for a long time, he might become a nuisance. Luckily, by zoning the pugil (use the Bibiki Bay zone nearby), his strength will be automatically reset.

edit: Here were my results for the last time I did this.

112 marlins in inventory, plus 3 people (including myself) having Brigand's Charts:

1st chart: 4 items, no mob

2nd chart: 3 items, 1 pugil (Held the pugil from this point onward)

    3rd chart: ring (4th chest)

Then I kept warping back to Selbina to turn in more marlin for more charts...

Charts 4, 5, 6, and 7 all dropped rings as well (all 4th chest).

I ended up keeping three of them, and giving two to one of the fellows who helped me.
Even if you only want one ring, it would be wise to go about the quest in this way. Also, you should obviously kill the Goblin Bounty Hunters before each event.

Yea I've been doing it with my boyfriend (dragging him along to make him do it~) so I can get that ring. No luck so far and one of them I froze trying to cast my line so that was a waste ; ;.

Does anyone know for a fact if you can create your Fishing Stall, get a 2nd Emblem and then synth a 2nd one to skillup? (obviously you can't complete the 2nd one because it's rare/ex)

Do you HAVE to toss your first one?

You have to toss the first one.

I made my stall instead of skilling up off of it. Once I decided to skill up to cap, I tried buying another emblem + ingredients and trading it to the furnace, but it says something akin to "You can't synth this since you already have the finished product." Kind of a waste, but what can you do?

Figured I'd pick this up again cause I did enjoy it back when I played more often, and it's something I can do without having to commit too much time. Any tips for a place to go at 27?

Use a mule to make the stall? More than one member can skill up while assisting correct?

I just got my Ebisu's today! 1/182 Gugru and 1/30 Lik....

Anyway I have a question for you Ebisu users:

I'm out fishing for Crocodilos right now but... why am I allowed less time to get it than when I'm using my Lu Shang's?
I mean I'm still able to pull it up, but I get the message "You don't know how much longer..." quicker than when using Lu's.

Not 100% sure so don't quote me, but I believe it's because Crocodilos are just like that. They are VERY hard to catch and you have less time to catch them than other fish. You'll also lose a lot due to skill. Even Hakuryu are easier to catch than crocs.

tl;dr - they just suck to catch

The mule would need to have the GP/rank to buy a fishing emblem, as they would be required to trade the materials to the furnace.

Hmm... Well it's weird. I get like an extra 5 seconds or so with Lu's. But yeah they do suck to catch...

How am I not able to use meatball to catch sea zombie anymore. I thought I remembered catching gugs and sea zombie on the same boat trip before?

Just to get the obvious out of the way: Which ship are you fishing on? The one between Whitegate and Mhaura, or the Mhuara-Selbina ship?

It's true you can catch gugrusaurus and sea zombies on the same ship with meatballs, but that's only during pirate attacks on the Mhaura-Selbina ship.

I am fishing on the boat from selbina to mhaura. I bought some rotten meat and my first cast was a sea zombie so do meatballs just not hook sea zombies on the selbina>mhaura boat? Or was I just unlucky for the first 3 pirate boats I rode on.

To be honest, I've never fussed with fishing Sea Zombies (for GP or otherwise). According to wiki and Great Blue database, they *should* bite on meatballs. Perhaps SE made a small change, or it could have just been some bad luck.

I just finished 4th boat ride with rotten meat and caught 11 sea zombies. So either they're extremely rare with meatballs + ebisu. You have to have meatballs + lu shang. Or you can't catch them at all with meatballs + ebisu. I don't know about the boat to selbina from mhaura, I kept warping to selbina to turn in marlins and titans i caught on the non-pirate trips.

edit: which yielded a mercurial sword in fact haha! And a pirate chart!
