Used to use this every day when I worked a monotonous data-entry job a few years ago. Eventually burned through their catalogue as well, but it's much more extensive these days.

So... heres the question: is it worth it for me at this point to take time to try to get a Pelican ring? It seems I can still get around 1 whole level a day fishing to fatigue @ Talacca, so I'm really not sure if giving that up for a while will be beneficial in the long run.

I want to catch as many carps as I can per day so I can get the lu shangs asap since most of my free time in the game now is to fishing. I'm currently 11.7 fishing skill with gear.

    Thank you for advice ^^
I wouldn't recommend forest carp personally, when I had to catch them for GP they moved around more than Ryugu Titans do >_>
You bought your account. Server transfer and change your name so you can start over.
Kind of harsh, level fishing on a mule and see if you can pull one in at 12 and 14 with a non-Lu's rod. I couldn't.

    Re: Fishing

i noticed while finishing my lushang recently the pond in knightswell was often "fished up" i could have 20+ no bites not even monsters items nothing.. there were 3 fish bots there the whole time..not even they were catching anything.. i left and caught some fish on the ferry..came back and couldnt catch anything ...

i called a GM who bacially told me" perhaps there are no more fish in the pond".. oh so your telling me a zone only has limited suply of fish i said.." no i am not saying that, but maybe people have fishe them all up".. so that is what your saying.." no i never said that" ..was the jist of our convo... he told me to keep trying for a min of 3 days if it was still the same they would make a report.. so i asked him or told him.. i have to sit here and waste 3 days at 2 or so hours a day of catching nothing so you can look into it.."yes".. my reply was colourful needless to say...

anyway after s few days i whent back and it was fine ..tho the fish bots were no longer there...
imo it is very possible each zone has a limited..if rather large body of fish..

and shame shame u know your name cooka get ur lushang already...

    Re: Fishing

While I was fishing for skill in Talacca Cove, I noticed the same. There always being 6-7 botters, and just myself, or maybe one other honest fisher. After awhile, I came to realize the same thing you did; I would stop catching fish for awhile then they would come back again. I decided to time it and keep track. After awhile, and I guess "all the fish were caught", they would respawn at a rate of about 7 per minute. This pretty much sucked because of all the botters, you pretty much had to be lucky to catch anything, but the skill up there was great so It didn't bother me too much. Hope this helps.

    Re: Fishing

Hey, I just came back to the game recently, and for some reason, I'm really into fishing now...maybe because my jobs are naked and no gil.

Anyway, I've been fishing 2-3 days now, starting at 9, and now I'm level 11. I've been trying to skill up on Yellow Globes in Port Jeuno, but it hasn't been working too well since half the bite are Bastard Sardines. I read this whole thread and noticed that apparently the north Qufim coast is good for Yellow Globe, and I'm trying that right now. But the reason I'm posting, do you guys think I can catch Nebimonites at 12 using a Halcyon Rod + Crayfish Paste to isolate them?

    Re: Fishing

Depends on your fish fighting skills and how nice the lag monster is. There are people who can fish up Ryugu at 50...I don't see why people can't do Nebims at 11.

As for me, I can't even bring up Emperor fish at 79 without Albatross...orz..

get yourself a robber rig for when you fish shall shells, a shrimp lure for everything you're ever going to make money with, a minnow(actually many many minnows if you're ever going to go for your ebisu), and a sinking minnow. other than obscure lures like fly lures, frog lures, and worm lures, all of which i have sitting on mules but never use, those will be your bread and butter lures. but the fact of the matter is, no rig or lure catches moat carp. it's insect paste or die. many many years ago(and i got my lu shang in dec. 04) it was believed that robber rigs could catch multiple moat carps. while statistically a rig could snag one moat carp every 3-5 hours, you're really just wasting your time.

one final note. if you want skill while you're fishing you're moat carp, kick it old school in rabao. insect paste + halcyon rod(or whatever you kids use these days, i had a carbon rod and i liked it), moat carp bite the majority of the time, when they don't the thing biting will be a sandfish, which caps at 50, and sells for 5-8k a stack depending on server.

    good luck and good fishing.
Cheers for the advice on Lures, might go splurge/craft a bit and mule them for now.

Probably going to stick to Jugner 'til 30-something. Sandfish don't seem to sell to AH well on Asura and they NPC for less than what I would get in Jugner.

Though I would have a better Carp:NPC Fish ratio...

Think I need to do more math on Carp/Lu's.
Just FYI, Dragons Aery is the best carp location. I pulled up 15+ stacks in a 3 hour camp!

in my experience, bringing all my fishing gear to DA guarantees a 1st window pop of faf

    Re: Fishing

Ok, so I haven't caught many Nebs yet...about 1.5 stacks, but they are easier than Yellow Globes because they drain faster, movement is about the same. The problems when I started fishing these are:

    a) I was already about 170/200 for fatigue
    b) I keep getting monsters biting or just no bite

Good news is I have 0.2 in like 16 fish which is 100x better than before. And more money!

    Re: Fishing

DA is an amazing place to catch moat carp! So is that pond in R. Fields. There is a pond in the desert too that is good. It's been close to 4 years since i've fished for a moat though. I finally got my pelican ring and started on Ebisu. Currently 0/25 on Liks and its slowly starting to bug me. For all future fisherman considering getting Ebisu. I suggest you either start leveling WW now, or find someone to stand beside you when you fish. You will snap your rod, i bought a 2nd rod just for this damn quest.

    Re: Fishing

Yeah, the little pond in R.Fields is where I've been spending my afternoons lately, can fish up 16 Stacks or so in 4-5 Hours.

Lately I keep getting shafted with shitty Moon phases and Weather which adds a lot of time.
Had 6 back-to-back casts that were line breaks or mobs more than once...
19 Fishing Skill probably doesn't help much either.

I'd try DA fishing but I never go there since I've no HNM LS, though a friend can confirm that if you go there with the intention of Fishing between windows Fafhogg will pop 1st window.

    Re: Fishing

So I'm 14.1 Fishing now. I've been using Halcyon + Crayfish Ball to target Nebimonites, but the bite rate is awful. So I bought a Mithran Rod and a Minnow to try my luck on Gugru Tuna, Bluetail, and Noble Lady.

I also checked the latest Fish Ranking results, slightly older than a day, and we had at least 50 people submit. So, I'm definitely going to have a hard time getting that ring when it's time...

    Re: Fishing

I don't know if this has been posted before, but I don't remember ever reading about it...anyway, I just got 0.2 skill up on a "too small to catch with this rod." So you can get skill ups on "too small" just like line breaks.

    Re: Fishing

you can get skill from any situation where you've depleted the fish's health, whether it's the rod is too small, it breaks, the line snaps, you get the 'insufficient skill' message, etc. one of the nice things SE did for fishermen.

Halcyon + Shrimp Lure works better there imho for Nebs. You'll also catch Noble Ladies with it. You could also try in SSG plenty of Nebs down there with no time between boat rides. Tuna are a pain to pull in, I wouldn't recommend them.

Yea, after getting tired of RMT pulling in Nebs all the time, I decided I'd buy a Shrimp Lure. But sometimes I do get way more than them, so it might have just been the moon phase. I was just waiting to finish my Crayfish Ball supply to make another trip to the AH and so.

Like I said, I bought a Mithran + Minnow. I've been reeling in Gugru Tuna, some Cone Calamary, and sometimes Noble Lady and Bluetail, but I do get the "too small" often. I somewhat don't mind because I've been zooming along...was 14.1 yesterday and now I'm 18.2. I find Tuna really fun to pull in because they actually require effort. And since they are a large fish, they have the weight/length. I hope they use Tuna for the next ranking because I have both a pretty small one and large one. Bluetail were impossible at 14 (caught 1), but now I've caught a couple (around 6). I've been switching up what I target according to the bite rate or if I'm just bored.

I'm really happy to be 18 and start working on GP right away because I know how awful they're going to be...today's fish is Lungfish, which can only be caught from 2:23 to 3:48 on a barge in Carpenter's Landing according to ffxiclopedia. I just finished my first ride on it, and bites were awful - mob, mob, Dark Bass, and finally "lack of skill."

There were some speculation about this on Titanictus but no actual trials--has anyone tried to see how fishing is affected with sch's Rainstorm on?

How frequently do Ryugu Titans snap Lu's? I'm able to deplete their stamina a decent amount of the time, but don't enjoy trips to Rabao.
