Just to clarify, you can do all the work for the ebisu rod quest (that is, getting Silk + Shoot) as soon as you can start gutting fish at Zaldon. You just can't turn in the items to Irmilant until you have serpent rumors, nor can you catch lik/gugrusaurus without the key item.
Maybe you're going to fish up you're own lik/gugru, though, in which case, yes, now you can "start."
Yar, I fished up my first lik. And then my second lik broke my rod. :3 Since I already have a 100 craft that isn't ww, I have a loooong road ahead of me. Too lazy to go searching for a lik/gugu seller on the server. If I happen across one sometime soon I'll probably start buying but I'm not gonna go out of my way.
As a quick question, would using a bot to Kill Fish my Gugrus be noticed by SE at all?
I've never used the function out of fear and it not being a necessity, but wondering if anyone has any experience using Kill Fish.
On a similar note, anyone tried using MMM Rings for Gugrus?
At 91 Fishing I tried to reel one in, and with Heron Ring + Albatross I wasn't quite able to.
Wondering if 99 Fishing would make enough of a difference? [Currently skilling to 99 off Pterygotus.]
Everything I've read always says to get a Penguin Ring and/or Mooching, but would be nice if I could do it without either.
Any other advice would be appreciated.
Sorry if any of these questions are inappropriate.
I have no experience with heron ring, but from reading others' experiences a long time ago, I don't think they really liked it. I always use Albatross and seagull ring.
Seagull ring can replace the penguin ring.
Both of them give you added stamina depletion of the fish. The only (slight) difference between them is that using the penguin ring, the maximum time the rod can stay left/right while fighting the fish is ~.5-1 second longer. You probably won't find that noted anywhere, but it's very easy to tell if you test it yourself.
Also, seagull ring is much preferred for fishing gugrusaurus because you keep the stamina depletion effect for a good couple hours straight (assuming you pick up advanced support; fisherman's belt is great to have, too!). If you use a penguin ring, you need to re-use a charge at the beginning of every boat trip (they wear off while zoning), and in order to keep it up at all times, you actually need to cycle using TWO penguin rings. Boats leave their dock every 19 minutes and X seconds, so if you're only using one penguin ring (20 minute cool-down), you'll have to wait a bit before using a charge on your next trip (this becomes a worse problem when doing several boat trips back-to-back).
Also, penguin ring can be hard to get. You can raise your odds of getting them (I've posted about the Brigand's Chart quest strategy a couple times), but it's quite a bit of work (fishing up hundreds of marlin, recruiting 1-2 other people, etc.). I have more than a few, but I still use my trusty seagull ring. Penguin rings do make fishing gugrus a little bit easier with the added time during left/right rod sways, but again, probably not worth going out of your way for.
The effects of the MMM rings are slight enough you wouldn't notice unless you were timing and watching closely before and after. As far as kill fish goes there seems to be something programmed in that vastly increases your fatigue if you keep immediately catching fish. Not sure what but from what I've seen and heard it might just be a catch too many in a time period or something. You wont get talked to but reaching max fatigue after only 11-40 fish in a day kinda blows.
So you'll need to set a decent amount on your fake fight. Or jsut make it so you can spend as much time as you want reeling in. Or as suggested above use the enchant rings... or I suppose you could do what people had to do in the begin and do the mhaura/selbina boat and/or ex bait lol
Exactly what are the conditions for a critical bite? (Angler's Discernment) I just got one off a lik at 80 skill, no fishing skill gear, and a lu shangs.. :O
There's a huge chunk of discussion the last few pages on research over the true effects of killfishing. Overall we determined it is detectable though SE won't ban you. Instead you just get autoslapped in the face with a potent fatigue that prevents you from continuing fishing. In other words, its not worth it.
Yeah, I heard about people hitting fatigue really fast from spamming killfish.
If I used it at all, I would be fake fighting until the end for sure.
I'm 0.1 away from 99 Fishing, I'll probably do Liks for a while after that since they're fairly easy to catch.
I'll likely get a Penguin Ring faster than Seagull for Gugrus, but we'll see I guess.
[EDIT]
I got 99 Fishing, and with 188/200 Fish for the day, decided to go to Liks.
I only brought 6 minnows, and I ended up losing all of them after catching 10 Liks.
Went to Selbina to turn them in, 7th one produced an Opal Silk~
In total I was 1/29, not bad. Hopefully Gugrus don't ruin my life now.
Just to add it in for the umpteenth time this thread, SE themselves confirmed weather, time of day, and moon phases affect fishing significantly in the lolbradyguide. It's written write at the top of the fishing section.
Certain fish have higher bite rates at certain times of the day, new moon / full moon increase bite rates, and rainy/windy weather and I think thunder as well all increase bite rates significantly as well.
All of this is also confirmed this through NPCs at fishing guild when you ask them for help. They'll tell you some fish only bite at night, others like it when its raining, etc etc etc.
tl;dr theorycrafting for fishing is confirmed by SE. ONLY fishing though, its actually craft crafting that is unconfirmed for everything but rusks/macaroons.
I did not know this. Finally I have an excuse for people who deny these things. lol
Kinda off-topic, but is there a real description for Rusks/Macaroons somewhere? From a combination of links I've seen in the past, one page would say the actual effect is X, and another would say Y, both of them being exact opposites. I've yet to find confirmation. xD
Macaroons: much lower chance of break synthing, along with much lower HQ rate.
Rusks: appears to just give a raw +HQ rate, not sure if its +1 tier or +10~15%, hard to tell atm, I need to do samples with other crafts and see if some get smaller buffs from rusks then others.
Good to know. I would assume that a percentage would make more sense than a full +1 tier, assuming that each rusk has a different level of the effect.
In other news, finally got Saber Shoot after working on it today/yesterday.
That makes me 1/81 Gugrusaurus, 1/29 Lik. All in a couple days. :3
Now I get to wait for Conquest update.
Definitely happy with this, was afraid of going into the high hundreds on Gugrus. ; ;
Can't wait to hop on the Hakuryu boat.
And you can hop on the lik/gugru boat too. They've doubled in price over in the last couple of weeks and sell pretty fast.
How long do we estimate hakuryu to last? With people spamming ebisu to fish haks, either minnows are going to start running dry and it won't be worth it, or SE is going to nerf it.
I think it should last. I mean there are plenty of other ways to make money much faster in this game
