Why is everyone assuming Haks or fishing got nerfed/changed with update? Did I miss something in the notes about fishing other than re-skinned ebisu?

I think it has to do with everyone getting panicing for awhile now that SE will find out the great secret of getting gil from fish (as if a cruor pt isn't a good 6X faster in making gil afk legitly) and you know how SE has been lately. If people bitch enough about something being unfair because they can't do it/have it SE caves in.

That being said I continue to notice a rather large difference in catch rate between my mule and main. Sometimes it starts out small or mule might even be ahead. But in the end main pulls decently ahead more so then it did before. So idk. My theory is they might have made it so a fresh hardly any stuff fisher with ebisu wont real in as much as someone with a bit more skill. Like my main has mega and has normal moglification items and waders and gp body over my mule. This might tempt me to get fishing torque to see that might help more. Also plan on doing more indepth parses later and comparing bite rates as well to see what up. Need to find something that tells me how much of each maybe... could just be they did something little like made items bite more if you don't have gp body idk

I can't imagine Haks are a secret kept from SE, I'm sure they know full well what's going on there. And really, Haks themselves are not the problem what so ever, the problem is the 24/7 botting. Many of us on here have said it before, fishing per hour is not great gil, but the ability to do it for 24 hours straight while not at the PC creates the potential. Even if you can yank in 200 haks over a 24 hour period that's what, approximately 100k per hour? One can make more than that easily farming Bria pop items lol. I look forward to your parses, because if SE really made a change to Haks which addresses the number caught per hour based on skill rather than the obvious issue of afk fishing then they've clearly missed the target assuming they were actually trying to hit it in the first place.

So, I remember reading about the guild items, a recommended order of getting them, which gaves which buffs, etc a while back but I'm not sure if the info is still up to date and it was spread out over a number of posts. Just hit 50 fishing skill and was trying to plan out my progression from here towards eventual 100 and Ebisu.

If I recall correct, current recommendation is keep fishing in Nashmau for skill using shrimp lure and working on GP for Serpens Rumors first. What GP items should I shoot for after that? I've recently PL'd Synergy up to 51 and taking it higher shouldn't be a problem, so a stall shouldn't be too hard to manage either.

Regarding the Ebisu items, is it worth leveling woodworking to fix my lu shang's and catch the liks/gugs myself, even if I might decide I only eventually want WW at 60? Or might it be better to fish for skill/profit elsewhere and buy the liks/gugs?

Well now after I've said that my mule is fairly close .

As far as prevoius question on bait.. I haven't done the ball line yet but just did slice of bluetail and it's still 4 each...




As far as what to get first with gp once you get ebisu I'd recommend stall then body after that idk will test individual peices.

As far as getting ebisu goes it kinda depends. If you can get WW up there it should be worth it to try and catch at least some yourself. Especially if they are like 30k which is what they were last time I checked on my server. Of course if you have a buyer for some fish and can make decent profit on something else then yeah do that too. But without buyers your probably stuck with nash fish or maybe trumpets which is like 160-350k a day which isnt alot of of ebisu fish

No skulker will be better. It's like +50% duration I beleive. Not sure if counts as a seperate factor though

I actually carry one of those around ever since 2004 in sky, can't believe I went with estq over it!

Estq. Cape and Skulker's are tieing at just under 30 minute Sneak duration with Composure and Estq. Houseaux +2 up.

I usually use these too, but they catch a lot of sharks, even with puffin/noddy. Wondering if there is something better.

Yeah but it has worked out hte best for me at least pre puffin/noddy days. That's what I did recently for the fishing contest and was pulling them up like crazy. Want to say at least 15 an hour but didn't percisely time how long I was doing it just noticed when I went to turn the extras in for Merc swd I had alot more than I thought I would've gotten lol

Never tried in the Den, or tested with cod or bluetail. I will give it a shot later.

I tried in the den once. Never got a single bite from one using all the different baits I could find that should catch them for several hours each bait. Even tried a couple of different maps in the den... But then again there seems to be alot of misinformation out there on fishing. I can't tell you how many different baits I tried that are supposed to work just not as well as the best and nothing after hours and hours. Same with a few other locations

I just went down to the pond on map1 where bistre-hearted malberry is (F-11). Both meatballs and cod will work, got about 1/5 or so bite rate. You wont catch sharks or cones like you would on the boat with meatballs or cod, but you can still pull up kelp and jellyfish, but as far as fish went titans were the only ones targeted. One problem with that area though, you need to sneak fish. The other downside of course is the travel, but all in all if you are going for awhile, have lots of inv, and are willing to sneak fish, it might be better than the boat.

Meatball and Bluetail both pull up Titans at a good rate in the Den of Rancor. Bite rate will be somewhere between 1 in 5 on a hot day and 1 in 10 on a cold one, if I had to pick a number I'd say 1 in 7 rings true.

Oh, and the "Best setup" on wiki lost all credibility to me when I started noticing that Lu's had the asterisk not Ebisu. It's entirely possible that when that statistic was last given serious consideration, a fisherman simply chose an option that worked "well enough once" as "best" and that determination has stood as fact ever since. As with all information on wiki, one may take the factual information at face value but also be careful to take all subjective and qualitative accounts with a large grain of salt.
