A sgm checked on my mule fishing haks this Tuesday. I wasn't paying attention and didn't respond to his /tells for 3minutes. I tried to play it off that I wasn't paying close attention to the textbox, but he claimed to have also used a special GM prompt box. Unfortunately I never saw this and was warped to jail. Mule is a linked account with my main, so both got suspended/possibly banned :<
I don't meant to start a debate on using fishing apps/not using them, but this is the main reason I haven't fished in quite a while. I've never used tools, and I could still make a pretty penny without them, but it's discouraging to see others' much better pay-offs with significantly less effort. So rather than join them, I've simply taken a break.
Then again, I guess I've also lost a bit of interest in fishing since it became really popular (i.e. when hakuryu were introduced). Having 100 fishing, ebisu, GP items, etc. was kind of a fun, niche thing for me, and while a part of me is glad to see others joining in the hobby, it's sad to see that many people aren't so much fishing as they are running a script for profit.
(Not that there's anything wrong with fishing for profit)
I actually started completely legit. But the various gimps they introduced to curb botting and such made things so much worse for the legit fishers and not much for the botters or in a couple of cases actually better for botters. It became pretty clear that SE actually wanted botters and hated casual fishing
I'd argue that fishing essentially made the game what it was. When I started, things were cheaper (in 2003) but gil was very hard to come by. It used to sell for 600USD/1m lol.
Then came Rabao and padded caps - that changed the game. Gil didn't come from its limited source of quests, missions, NMs but from the NPCs. Sure, it caused a massive inflation and screwed a lot of people out of keeping up with the rest of the playerbase, but it also made the economy what it was, allowed NA folks to level crafts, etc. Gil at one point was what, 5$/1m or less? A lot of that gil has left the game through SE's various methods of removal, and fishing itself nowadays could never match what goes out per day. Chocobo blinkers, sure, there is potential for that and I think you see it here and there because you don't have to do anything but go to an NPC and get them. I'd see that nerfed long before haks.
God, I remember when all you had to do was look at your sweat and hit enter lol. You didn't even need a real bot to "bot" back then, just a vbs or perl script.
I want to preface my response here by saying I do not want to start a bitch fest, this is completely a laid-back shooting the breeze kind of response, so please take it in the spirit intended.
I was 100% legit for 9 years. The reason i started is i'm older. I have obligations that keep me from being able to devote serious amounts of time to the game. Unfortunately, that means cutting corners in archaic systems that haven't seen serious improvements in 10 years, i.e. fishing. (i dont consider wiggling a controler a serious improvement, btw.). I've wanted my relic for most of a century, and after seeing moron after drooling moron have one from buying gil or cheating, I just kind of snapped. This is a way for me to get what i want while I do my college coursework. Does it make it right? Not at all, and I hate myself for doing it. but being someone that plays solo, this is one of the only ways i can attain my in-game goal without devoting 10+hrs a day to the game.
Yeah I actually just had a maccro that was /fish /wait whatever fish. Of course being legit and regular maccros meant it only went for a couple of min but at least I didn't have to fight the fish and such lol. And just playing by sound while you rest your eyes. Which is really what killed legit fishing for me. Especially when I learned that the whole moving the controller around actually made it more profitable/easier for botters while just made me have to pay more attention then I would any other way of making gil while making less. I basically took that as a message from SE that they want botters.
Of course there were other methods nerf... even ones not as good. Like mug lol (seriously was not that broken at 5 min recast) or hundreds of npcables.
Also I had a friend that said he saw it for 1$/1mil but I didn't really pay attention so idk how accurate that is.
any idea what level i can start reeling in lik?
I could legitly at 78. They super easy. Had to use rings of course though
Re: Fishing bots
I'm glad no one is saying that there is a right or wrong, better or worse way to do things on this matter. It comes down to what we're comfortable with doing, and also what risks one is willing to take. My choice not to use them is just that: A choice.
I'm more interested in trying to figure out how we can catch more fish/cast than worry about if someone does it afk.
Re fishing 110 gains: I was holding out hope that the increased Fishing Skill would help with the snap rate more than bite rate. If the collective intuition of these posters hasn't stumbled on bite rates increasing as Skill increases, I'm highly dubious that such a benefit exists in a more than marginal capacity. Thinking back to skilling (which I did manually), you could be a good 50-60 skill behind a level 100 fisherman, and you weren't at any significant disadvantage in the bite rate department.
Re bots: I stopped legit fishing at Gugs, which were so difficult I had to CPUKill myself, and it was more frustrating than enjoyable. I also had to reality check myself, as fishing legitimately to completion was taking way more time than any man should devote to solitude and imaginary profit. I proved to myself that I could watch TV and fish for six or eight or however many hours on Black Sole, and from there, the question became health and wellness.
Losing sleep, shirking responsibilities and opportunities, and for what? It's not like there's a scout badge for legitimately ruining your sleep schedule, all you get compared to the bot next to you is rings under your eyes and bad grades. I decided to get what I wanted out of this game, and this way of doing it is detrimental to relatively few, and on the scale of an entire server's economy, not even that detrimental.
In fact, I could personally argue that I fill a niche in demand for the constantly generated currency/metal/cinder/dross market. They whip them up out of thin air, I whip gil up out of thin air, and in due time, all that currency/metal/cinder/dross vanishes into thin air courtesy of the Moogles and Goblins. All you get is minor inflation in circulated gil and an increase in economic activity in a game that could probably use it. Not that SE has a staff economist, but perhaps they are leaving Haks in the game to boost circulated currency.
Re paranoia: This thread may cause paranoia. Most of the time I can't bring myself to afk Hak, only sleep Hak so I have notifications. That SGM window guy only has one post so I'm telling myself he's trolling... Blah, looked him up on FFXIAH, last scanned 1 day ago, wearing an Ebisu ><;
even that's not safe if they use the box :/
Assuming the box is real. There's been like 2-3 reports and no screenshots of it. Also just need to have an alarm for GM and bam
There is this screenshot.
