I don't even care what the item may be, I'm just happy to get these 20 matsya off my mule, and now I may have a use for the pile of ex bait I have leftover in my safe.

I have 40 pieces of ex bait on me at the moment...tempted to go out and get some more matsya.



Edit: I'm fishing Matsya at the moment. Super easy to drain now...Still snapping lines like a mofo, of course.

Edit2: Caught my first Matsya of the day...got a .3 skillup!

For those interested in trying for Matsya now, here are a few pointers:

Go to the east bridges in Vunkerl Inlet. At least according to wiki, these are the only bridges that you can catch Matsya at. Even if it isn't true, I'd rather not risk losing bait at the other bridges trying to confirm/deny this detail.

Fish up all items that get stuck on your hook (there will probably be a lot of them!). This will save you some precious ex bait. Note: Arrowwood Log will trigger the "big catch" song, so don't be fooled into thinking it's a monster on your line and cancel it.

You're going to lose some bait to jellyfish and monsters. Nothing much you can do about that.

Gear-wise, noddy and puffin ring setup is recommended. No need for albatross/penguin/etc. rings now. Everything else, stack on the skill+ gear, and consider getting advanced support/using the fisherman's belt for skill support. These guys are going to snap your lines pretty frequently.

Edit: Yes, EX bait only. Your best bet is to fish up Cave Cherax and get Dwarf Pugil from them. Don't bother with Sea Zombies for Drill Calamary.

I'd also recommend fishing up the monsters too considering how long sneak lasts now. Hell even before they updated sneak composure and the increased duration back put me at least 8 minutes usually more like 12. Sad now that I npc'd all mine though back to getting more ex bait I guess

You still lose bait from fishing up monsters. Not much point.

This rule really helps when going after a penguin ring (i.e. brigand's chart quest). By having someone hold the 1 puffer pugil that you can fish up during the event, you are guaranteed to pull up nothing but chests. The pugil can be held between events, so depending how many marlin you have on hand, and how lucky you are with getting multiple charts from them, you can guarantee yourself a chance at a ring for several events.

I believe this fact was also tested/used to target Devil Manta more easily when angel skin was valuable.

Yeah people used to do it alot camping angel skins. Fish up all the other monsters and only manta will come up for monsters. And while normally I wouldn't recommend it since it often wastes more time then you save in this case you save more cause you save the bait which takes forever to fish up. Back in the day I average around 2-3 fish an hour I think using up a stack of bait once I started actually pulling stuff up. Really curious whats in it though. Really hope its the new skillup back lmao

Out of the 40 leftover ex bait I had, I caught 4 out of the 15 Matsya bites; the rest (11) were line snaps. I wasn't using fishing support.

My previous session from years ago was 117 ex bait, 21 catches, and 35 line snaps. This was during full moon with support, but I was using albatross/penguin ring combo.

0/24 now. Oh well!

As for Aurora Bass, is it possible that they can only be fished up in Qufim Island during lightsweather (i.e. when the aurora borealis is visible)?
