    10.5k*8*24 = 6*X
    X = 336k

Include running around annoyance and I probably wouldn't fish these for someone unless they were offering 400k each. You get 12.5k of that back per Matsya you turn in. Also, the cape is not deliverable between accounts so multiple mules cannot use it. At that price (and assuming the probable 1% drop rate), this cape would cost 40mil.
That's higher than I was expecting (although I quoted him much lower, my mind was thinking 25 mil or so), but nonetheless I knew it was gonna be up there. Have to say though that I'm kind of glad its not deliverable, as shitty as that sounds to those with multiple crafting mules. I'm working up one myself too, so the pain will eventually hit me, but it does make sense.

And this is exactly why I would get it....and completion's sake. Hard to see such an item exist as a crafter and not shoot for it.

    200 Haku x 10285 (Jeuno NPC) = 2,057,000 - Bait (50-100k) most people round to 2mil a day.

100 Cave pulls = 30 pugils = 5 Malsya so 400k breaks you even. You can't do more then 100ish Cave pulls per day or you won't be able to fish the Malsya. (you will pull lots of Cobalt,Rusty items and arrowood just trying for Malsya)

500k is the minimum I'd sell a Malsya for, its a lot more work then Haku.

To me even at 40 mil it would probably be worth as long as the rate is noticable. But then again I have gold and the cost of the last few lvls last I checked was like a billion gil lol

To note it took me like 30mil or so get from 98 to 104 without batting an eye and stopped there because it became way too expensive for my blood lol

Until an English-speaking player can confirm I wouldn't assume it's not deliverable between mules on the same account just yet. A lot of items like Attestations have the non-deliverable flag on them but can still be transferred within the same content ID.

I'm pleased to see crafters put a high price tag. Would make the fish hunt a lot more fun...

Really fishing over and over for one fish sucks sometimes. It's why I do even the most crazy gp items. Last week we had the bikini bay ship lol went for it.

If this is worth the gil ill gladly fish this a lot.

You can once you have Drill Calamary or Dwarf Pugil Bait.

Its a process however. Fish 100 "bait fish" > turn them in for "EX bait" (25-30% conversion rate)> then fish Malsya > turn them in for the cape. (1-5% conversion rate)

Oh. I thought it had something to do with the fish moving around the zone. Duh, I fished bait the last two days.

Edit: I've avoided glacier to avoid the bot stigma (not picking a fight, just don't not personally). A different, hard to obtain, high price fish sounds amazing.

In terms of how long the rod stays to the left/right, I guess I would compare it to gugrusaurus. It's been a while since I fished gugrusaurus, so this may not be accurate. However, they are certainly not a problem. I never came close to running out of time on any of them. I'd say don't sweat it, they aren't abnormally difficult to wear down (just be prepared to snap a lot of lines, even when stamina is depleted).

@ Nibu - thanks for the info. Considering I had supreme difficulty with Gugrusaurus in the past (Mr. 1/2,642 here) in terms of depleting its stamina, I hope I don't have similar difficulties with this.

I'll still give it a shot though. I haven't fished any since the update, so I don't know how well/poorly I'll perform. I play on a laptop so we'll see how it goes. I have little to no difficulty with CC so that won't be much of a problem.

I have fishing gears, several Albatross Rings, but no Mooching.

    We'll see how it goes.

Those of us (and I've always assumed most of us on here) who value our own work, and thus understand the value of others', are willing to reward someone else for their time and dedication to level a craft, be it fishing, smithing, alchemy...any craft. So fish away guys, and see what your individual market is. And if you're a smart businessman, do some crafting yourself using it, take some screenies of yourself using it. If its basically the destrier beret for crafting, you'll have some killer advertising

There will only be one way to tell if its honestly worth the gil, and that's gonna be seeing how much of an increase to skillup rate it actually is. If we're talking about seeing a 25% skillup rate, it would be worth it to me, that would be over double the current 60+ rate.

But I do think the only true way we're gonna see if its worth it is if a fisher also has a high level craft and wants one for themselves, or if someone has a ton of gil and wants something to buy. I guess a 3rd option would be someone just getting insanely lucky. People do on ebisu items.

Then again, considering the annoyance of fishing these up compared to gugs and lik (from what I'm hearing) it could be a higher drop (gut?) rate on the cape. And if so, all the more reason to boost the price per fish. If you see a 10% rate on the cape, 1mil per fish would be reasonable.

From a fishers perspective, the best possible outcome would be a proven higher skillup rate that is substantial, and a horrible drop rate. Keeps desire and demand high.

Celebrindor hit on a piece that I had not previously seen mentioned. When I consider the price of something I also take into account the more qualitative side of it, that being the success rate of actually obtaining the cape from Zaldon and the impact that has on "rarity". While I know random is random and even a 20% chance can be 0/50 it plays a part in my book. If the cape "drop" rate is 20%, then I'm going to inherently charge more per fish than if the "drop" rate is 2%. Maybe it's a chip on my shoulder in saying well FU, if you can estimate getting the cape in 4 trades then you're sure as shit going to pay more per fish. This also plays a part on buyer psyche. Sure, I'll pay 1m a fish if I think I'll have the item in 5-10 trades, but FU I'm not paying 1m a fish if I expect to trade 100, I don't care how you (the fisherman) calculates gil per hour...

I fished Matsya with no rings, but I do have mooching. If you use an albatross ring, I'm pretty sure you should have no trouble at all draining them.

As for what others are discussing: I'm 0/24 on matsya, so unless I'm continuing my crap luck from ebisu items, it may be <5% drop rate.

Too horrible of a drop rate will alienate buyers because they will not see the increased skill rate as an offset to all this gil upfront. We all know most crafters do not calculate the average cost of skill up/synths/etc. If you believe they do go ask them a couple simple questions from the Crafting newbie sticky.
