Last night after fishing all night, I saw the skill ups are much slower than I remembered ( but that's fishing I suppose

The new system is hilarious, nothing like catching a fish 53 levels above me easier than catching the fish I'm meant to (and not seeing a skillup for it). Interesting to see all the behaviours of each fish, After an hour into each location I was in (linesnap!) I was able to to tell what fish I had on my line just by the behaviour.

Oh and I think I'm going to solve my lu shang / woodworking problem by lvling WW on my alt account. My fishing isn't 50 yet, so I'm not going to take the plunge, but if I do get it to 50 and take it seriously, I'll definitely bring WW'ing up and have the char follow me around.

you'd be surprised how infrequently you break your lu's. I stopped fishing around when ToAU came out so i can't speak for those fish, but I really only broke it on the ryugu titans and it is very easy to tell them apart from Titanictus, hell I had to lag myself out to be able to catch them at 76 fishing. So honestly it wouldn't be that bad to bring it rabao everytime it breaks...might be more convenient than leveling woodworking

Is there a site that lists the current fishing competition requirement, or do I have to go out to selbina (or is it mhaura?) to find out what fish I need and then go get it and come back.

You need to go to Selbina as far as I know since the Fish/Requirements is different per server. Still a week or so to go to hand in entries though I think.

Well I don't know how large the pool of fish the ranking can pull from, but right now it's Giant Donko on Titan, which is 9 above my skill. Seems pretty convenient for me, gonna try to skill up and get a good fish to turn in at the same time.

For some reason, whenever I lag it's a lot easier for me to catch fish that thrash around a lot. (Keep in mind I sold my Lu's a while ago so it's possible they fixed this?) Whenever I got a Ryugu Titan on my line I would turn fraps on and lag myself. I don't know if it would work for liks/Gugruses because I never went after them, but I remember reading that Liks were like ryugu titans on steroids. Either way if you've got the two rings it's worth a shot =o

Fishing is entirely player based, if your computer is slow, then fish will be much easier to reel in. Theres a program I think called CPU killer which allows you to adjust how much you want to lag your pc, from 0-100%, which helps you to fish. I hear it works wonders for fish like ryugu titans.

I've started reeling in a few Titans lately, at 84.x, but I never managed to get a single one before that. Seeing that some fishermen get Titans in the 50s convinces me I will never get an Ebisu, since the two target fishes are way out of my league :/

PS2 people got it way easier...I finally got to try fishing on PS2 a few days ago and I must say it's a shame how easy it is to reel in a Titan on this console compared to PC. Not sure how it is for XBox360 though, but the joypad itself seems to help a lot.

Well, I wasn't able to get a titan until I ranked up to 90+, so don't feel down about it yet.

I fished my Liks by lagging my pc, using only an albatross ring.... And using the "tapping method" (don't hold down buttons, just tap them). Of course, missing a few catches can be discouraging, but don't let it get to you.

Someone here mentioned Lik's are like ryugu on steroids? I can compare a Lik to... I wanna say how a Silver Shark will move, just harder to depleat the stamina, and it has a larger regen rate.

Gugrus on the other hand, gugrus fish like semi-items, Shall shells, nebs, grimmonites, and so on. But, like Liks, gugrus just have more stamina and a large regen rate.

For ryugus, I read this somewhere on titantictus.com somewhere, but ALWAYS fish them in first person. Watch how the rod moves, titans will try to fake you out by moving to the sides but not all the way to the sides. The difference on your monitor isn't that much, maybe about half an inch or less, but if you look for it you'll know what I'm talking about. For ryugus, also use the tapping method, and don't get greedy reeling them in. Only expect to hit the left or right buttons once or twice when it sways to the side, if you have the opportunity to do it more, don't, thats when it'll trick you and move back to the middle.

When I was below 88 I had basically a 0% chance at catching ryugus unless they bit during a pirate attack and the pirate ship lagged my pc enough to bring a titan in with three button presses, which happened all of 3 times or so.

I fish mostly for gil, and the only thing that keeps me skilling up is the will to see a whole list blue crafting skills ^^v

Ebisu is nice only because it can't break, but especially because it is literally the relic of fishing, and is a great accomplishment to know that probably less then 1% of all people who level fishing will EVER get one.

Not to mention, its nice selling that lus for 2.2m when you get it :D

Question about the Ebisu rod quest, do you have to be on the quest for him to gut them open and get the two items needed? I'm thinking of buying all the cheap gug/lik I see in bazaars from now.

I know I can't start the quest till I'm in the 80s of fishing + get key item, but would be nice to be able to have the items in advance if I strike some luck.

I got my Saber Shoot before I had my rumors, but I was around 90 fishing.

Got my opal silk after I got my rumors.

So yes its possible to get the items without rumors, but need rumors to start the quest.

just started fishing, and I got to 11, but today when i tried to get some more skill ups I got none in like 4hours of fishing not even a .1 is that normal?

im skill 95 and i have 1 of the two rings(working on the 2nd one now so ill have it in a day or two) what i want to know is to get the ebius rod should i be skill 100 or can i skill up on them as i go for them. i pulled in about 15 lik and 25 Gugrusaurus over maybe 4 days of work. now i lost a few here and there(read a lot...) but is this the norm?

bait rod and where would help also maybe you hit the fish cap. as moat carp do cap at skill 11

it is rare to be that slow at that low of a skill lvl tho. you wont start to see that happen a lot till you are in the 60's or even 70s.
