Buying a good fish from someone outside the guild in selbina. Or hope its a really lame fish like sea zombie. Last contest just finished and I had litterally fished up a couple thousand CC for it turning in the best one and still only got 17

He means one that meets the criteria of the contest (e.g. a "good fish" for a contest wanting the heaviest fish would be one that weighs a lot).

Be wary of buying fish from the AH for the purposes of the contest, though. Fishermen will fish a huge batch of fish, put up the "worst" fish first, and get the buyer to spend a LOT of money before they get to any decent fish.

Yeah that's why I'd only do bazaared ones you can see the weight of. Plus some people like to troll for the contest and put ones on the ah that have already been used for the contest and you can't tell till you bought

Well I figured the best out of a couple thousand would be good but meh. Various sources had size/weight ranges but aren't 100% accurate

Cave Cherax is a horrible example, though, for obvious reasons. Normally thousands is going to be enough barring bad luck.

Well I've had even worse things happen with say jungle catfish twice and 3 eyed fish.

The only ones I've seen that don't drown in submissions (which is weird since I knoe that many people dont fish seriously let alone that many new people since using the ring eliminates the need for getting more) are the more annoying ones and/or lu breakers. Then often you wont even get 20 submissions lol

I have found those ranges to be slightly smaller than max size and weight. Depending on the fish, if you get a few pz or lm from max it's pretty guaranteed. There are exceptions such as the recent CC competition which had to be a joke from someone at SE.

Keep in mind they changed the guild patterns a few months ago and some of them are still messed up on the AH site. Every time I can remember Sandfish being listed recently, it's really been Black Eel. The actual reports at the bottom are useful to be sure it is right, but they tend to be submitted by people with the higher level ranks.

Yah, check for the submission reports before you commit. If nothing reported for your rank, check yourself. I got burned on this 3 times before I smartened up.

Stall is +5 skill for only 15k GP, that's your biggest bang for buck. After that it gets pretty marginal. Body, feet, mooching all have their rolls...and I'd probably go exactly that order unless you want to go straight to matsya, in which case mooching probably needs to come first.

Does mooching affect break rate? If using a bot, you can reel them np, but the break rate is what really kills the run.

I haven't compared what my mules are doing to what my main with mooching can do now but based on what my main did years ago when I did it it doesn't seem to. Then again maybe the addition of stall compared to then is effecting it idk. Plus the numbers are so all over the place sometimes.

Like this current run I brought 266 bait. First 80 bait gone and I have 5 monsters out of water and 18 fish in pocket. Factoring out the monsters that's almost 1/4 which got me pretty excited. I got 50 bait before I catch another one which given that matsya to jellies is about 50/50 that means about 25 breaks in a row. Now it's winding down and I only have 15 bait left and have caught 34 which is a little worse 1/7 catch rate so it's come back to something decent. But god I was hoping that the 1/4 would hold since it had for a decent amount of time and I come out of this with 50-60 fish
