    Re: Fishing

Run the monsters to the zone and just zone them every few min that's what I did.

With a rdm it is very easy seeing as you can zone and dia them get some use out of that aoe spell!!

We've complete 8 Shawls now and never bother with the monsters. That kiting/holding/curing character could be another person fishing them up!

I used a fly lure. Seemed to only pull up monsters and items. Release the items.

I used BST and used Attack/Heel on all of them to get their HP down to get the pet hate. There's always that one monster that would come for me after about an hour. 1/7 Shawl and I've never fished them again. Shit sucks if you're fishing bait/matsya legit.

I just set up my rdm main in pdt and regen gear then have him cast phalanx, stoneskin, refresh and regen every 5 minutes. Just gotta remember to reput up composure/light arts every now and then. And yay for skillups.

As far as pulling them up every bait I've used took forever to pull up mobs so I'd just get lots of matsya bait and oh well lose 5. In the grand scheme of things that's bait is only about 30 min of fishing on my 2 mules while I've had it take over 2 hours to get all the monsters out before

So I want to skillup Bonecraft off Trumpet Shells but obviously those aren't AHed very much anymore, I was looking in to fishing them up myself. My character only has 27 fishing, although I'm told I could still catch them with that, but looking at two sources (ffxiclopedia and great blue) I am confused over what rod/lure combination would be best. A friend told me he sees people fish them with Sabiki rigs, although those aren't listed on either, and it looks like Mithran and Halycon both don't work. Is this a lost venture without Lu Shangs, or does anyone have any ideas?

I think I used Robber or Rogue rig. Back during the trumpet shell heyday, my husband and I went fishing and he got ~80 shells in 10 hours (45 fishing) while I got ~180 (91 fishing). There is some more info about fishing trumpets around that post (link below). I'm not sure trumpets are the best way to skill bone anymore because you have to fish them yourself, but I couldn't give you any suggestions because I skilled my bone mule up doing them. Good luck if you go after them, though!

Trumpets are a gigantic pain in the ass to fish up. I would do chronos tooth and orochi nodawas to cap. I did the teeth to cap but that was back in 2007 or so.

Guess I'll try Chronos Teeth instead, 80 in 10 hours sounds pretty awful.

    30 Caught/71 Broke/ 204 Pugils used** / 4 Trips
    1/29 shawl

    Food for thought:
    7catch/17break 43 bait (first trip 106 skill + stall + clothes) 29% 7/24
    11catch/34break 94 bait (second trip 107 skill + stall + clothes) 24% 11/45
    3catch/9break 30 bait (third trip 108 skill + stall + clothes) 25% 3/12
    9catch/11break 37 bait (fourth trip 109 skill +stall + clothes + The Big One + Net & Lure) 45% 9/20

On paper it would seem that The Big One and Net & Lure drastically improved break rates. I know someone did some testing previously and showed similar results.

Though obviously 101 bites is a small sample size.

Anyone know a good bait to use to fish Abaia with? I've been there with both Trout Balls and Sliced Carp, and both seem to be about the same catch rate in general with is kinda of low.

That's how they are. You could use minnows as well.

Unless the bite rate is substantially higher with minnows, I think that might be a bad idea. They have a pretty ugly chance of snapping my line.

Realistically if you hit the guild everyday carp and trout are probably always maxed out 52g 180 baits, the bite rate on every 100+ fish is pretty bad, and yeah you'll waste a shit ton of bait, but its super cheap (at least it is here).

With the 360 bait 180+180 (trout seemed slightly better) I'd still leave with 30 Abaia which is what would be expected 10%, if you think those are bad, try matsya.

I wish that were true, but ive never really seen >25% and I have all those items +110.
