Is de-synthing rings better than Ore buying ? I can usually craft up 10-12 stacks in a couple hours, is it more cost effective with lightning crystals?

Honestly with as much stacks of ingots were on ah and how much they were selling for I assumed guild would be camped for ore. But yeah I think ore is what 9 gil each so looks like for me would be about 370 gil a synth instead of the like 550 per ingot I was saving. Probably even better for people who aren't goldsmithing main since those extra lvls seem to help on desynth but obviously wont help regular
Might be a tad faster too. Wont need to do as many synths but will have to spend a little more time buying
Edit: should add it's highly dependent on server prices
Don't get copper ore from the guild, get it from the vendor near the airship. Unlimited stock, no closed hours, faster purchase speed.
Totally forgot about them lol. Well that will make things much easier and cheaper thanks
I'll catch sardines on mule next time and log the time for 100.
However, there is still one huge massive difference between sardines and minnows that people are completely ignoring: Dasva is using a method involving a 100+ and 70+ craft to make minnows. Sardine requires 31 cooking, which you can reach in a day for a few 100k easily.
Even if minnows turn out to be more efficient, the argument for minnows over haks will never be anything greater than "If you have the means already, do minnows, otherwise do sardines".
Well as others have pointed out to me I've been doing it wrong lol and it's actually cheaper and easier to do it with ore so only really need decent alchemy skill. Think it's only 20ish but your what lvl you need for a not crap breakrate I have no idea. But yeah will take longer and cost more to lvl it. I'm just a sucker for blue text on my various skills and such lol
Some preliminary timing data:
Total time travelling and buying materials. This includes all time spent running between required merchants, all time spent buying materials and includes time spent going to the AH to buy clusters. This is without any movement speed+. It also involves the worst case scenario (Sandy holding Aragneu, so being unable to catch sardine AND synth in the same strting nation).
Total time: 9min 30 seconds. Add 30 seconds for trading sardine mule: 10 minutes.
Total time synthing 12 stacks of sardine balls: 59min 20seconds.
As mentioned above: Catch sardine on a low fishing mule. You can do this whilst fishing haks overnight, so the catching time of sardine is irrelevant.
Total setup time for 12 stacks of Sardine: 1 hour 10 minutes. Total cost: 61k gil (60,903, 101 synths with 2 breaks).
I will update post tomorrow with how many haks 1188 sardine balls nets me.
If anyone is still keeping track i went 1/36 on Shaper's Shawl.
First session was 185 bait, 45 hooked, 17 catches ---->0/17
Second session was 210 bait, 66 hooked, 20 catches. ---->1/19
Update:
Catching time for Sardine, 173 in 2hrs 3mins. Say 2hrs 30 for 200, 1hr 15 for 100 (which will give you 12 stacks).
So even if you didn't ignore the catching time of sardine (because you do it while fishing haks), the total setup time is 2hr 25mins.
I think the big negative of sardine balls is not the cost or setup cost/time (where it's clearly the victor), however the time it actually takes to catch haks.
So far, it's taken 10hrs 20mins to catch 68 Haks off 823 bait. Looking at about 9mins and 12 bait per hak. Small sample size, but gives an estimate. I'll keep recording data over the next few days.
Using my new methods setup cost and time seem fairly close as far as per catch. 830 gil and like 80 sec or so per minnow synth
Obviously per synth it's a sarines win by alot but each synth catches more for minnow. That said I also need a bit more data on lantern farming (yay for not really needing it for regular synth ingots). That said yeah really comes down to comparative catch speed and bait consumption. Gunna see if I can flat out convert my parse data to approximate times instead of gathering times since it's so much data already
Sardine is roughly 36 seconds and 620 gil per 12 balls. 12 balls is roughly equal 1 hak (it's closer to 11 per hak, but giving benefit of the doubt to minnows, and also for simplicity sake).
Sardine: 36 seconds and 620 gil per hak.
Total haks after today's haul: 103 haks in 14hr 45mins off 1188 bait. 23:2 Bait:Hak ratio. 8minutes 35 seconds per hak.
Rough total (low sample size) to get started:
9 minutes 10 seconds and 620 gil per Hak.
(Setup cost to reach required crafts: <300k. Time required: <1 Day.)
Random tip for anyone trying to level to 78+ for Ebisu without getting a Lu's: Composite Fishing Rod, Lugworms, Nashmau, Pterygotus.
I got to 75 on Tavnazian Gobys and hit a nice wall for the last 3 levels, this seems to be the best way past it. Haven't broken my rod so far (100-some catches) and as far as I can tell don't even break the line. I'm also not even getting lost due to lack of skill catches, which I find weird since Three-Eyed Fish were frequently with a total skill of 80 (and they cap at 81, too bad they break lines and take lures), while these cap a lot higher, and they actually bite a lot more often that I would have expected.
So a little more data. Considering it's a normal craft I'll just use math to figure out cost/time for the ingots.
My logs look like 2 seconds per ore bought. Seems high to me but that's what they say. And they cost 11 gil each. Fire crystal prices have gone up to 5k a stack sadly though still much cheaper than there clusters. (given the price you may want to farm. Just recently I was able to get almost 3 stacks of clusters in an hour of easy farming). So 30.8 sec per ingot synth and a cost of 460 gil. Now accounting for a 5% breakrate and assuming they are all worse case scenario full breaks that comes to 32.4 sec and 484 gil per ingot
Now the fiber is going to be a tad tricky. So far I've spent 3 hours and 40 minutes in abyssea farming for lanterns and gotten 208. This in turn I spent 276 synths to make them into 786 glass fibers. So total time spent synthing and farming should be about 324 minutes and given 40k per lightning cluster stack 76666 gil. However, also in that time I managed to get 8 dark rings (34476 npc price), 8 tower shields (4031 npc price) and 41 dried mugwort (sells 50k a stack). Completely ignoring the mugwort which for some reason stopped selling the day I started this I still made 308056 gil from those npcables (plus got myself a better dark ring). So in the end I spent 324 minutes to make 231390 gil and 786 fibers. So that comes out to each fiber taking 24.7 sec and making me 294 gil.
That puts each minnow synth at around 79.9 sec and a cost of 606 gil.
Some side notes the lantern farming is actually nowhere near as good as it could be. I haven't cleaved in over a year for 1 and I had minor amounts of competetion here and there. Plus Most the dark rings came from the last run when I got the bright idea to kill the garuda mob in area with sanguine blade for quick amber between cleaves. 1 big mistake I've make is not paying attention to what KIs I have/need. Could've been making a few sets. I know KKK skin is like 500-600k here and I tossed a few of the KI I need for it. However it's not as big as not keeping ffxiah open as last run I actually destroyed a box containing 2 helidors not realizing they sell pretty quickly at 160k each. So in reality if I hadn't been so dumb I might have almost broke even on actual cost. And of course trying to figure out why the mugwort stopped selling
. And last side note using this method I can almost without a doubt say it is definitely worth selling the sinkers for 10k each lol. Doing the math would take an hours worth of time to make 45 with 9.4k profit would be 423k an hour lol. Yes yes I know I'm getting NQs too. But they are being used so the time making them isn't really counting against that and anyrate much better than using them. And yes I also realize I didn't really factor in the small amounts of running time and such. Partly because it's going to vary so much from person to person and largely because I've been busy doing other things so have spent too much time idle to really accurately time it. I'll probably do some run time tests and add that in to my results at a later date
Potentially silly question, but relatively new to fishing
Skilling up, currently 66 in Nashmau with Lu/shrimp lure fishing up ahtapot and mercanbaligi. Given the fatigue cap of ~200/day, and the fact that mercanbaligi actually stack and end up being quite a bit more NPC-friendly than ahtapot, does it make sense to not be trying to catch the ahtapots? It seems as if I'm catching right around 200 merc a day, so I can't see my skill being slowed down by not trying to pull in ~half of what my bites are. Note that this decision is based on in-game time having no ulterior financial value, so no 'wasted potential'
tl;dr Just making sure I understand the fatigue system like I think I do, and insuring that I'm not skilling up tremendously slower than I otherwise would be
I've always preferred Talacca Cove Dil + Mercanbaligi, both fish stack and you get like 150~200k a day just for skilling up.
Not sure exactly what you are asking. Like should you only target merc so you can npc them faster? I suppose that would work and your skillrate per pull should be about the same but you are basically fishing for twice as long and getting slightly less gil to just save a small amount of time npcing and I guess maybe save some npc save. Not really sure I see the point of that. I'm not sure if anyone has bothered checking skillup rates between the 2. Though ahtapots being higher lvl they would probably be better once your lvl gets higher.
As already suggested there are other fishing spots you can take nashmau is just popular because of the huge range of skilling up and that with 2 target fish both with good biterates it is extremely fast to cap
I noticed Talacca, but I appreciate my Nashmau Earring. I'm able to HP to Windurst to trade in for guild points, instantly warp back to the Nashmau docks, back to life
