I should've said easier. But I think lu offers slightly better paths. And nashmau stage is rather nice since you can get full skill for the day in a couple of hours if time in the day is a factor. Not to mention npc right there and continue. Last mule I did I got from 0 to whatever the nashmau cap was in a little over 2 weeks. Granted I had 1 skillup ring but wasn't too bad. Of course that just means waiting on gps forever...

Depends is that mule on a different account and do you run all the accounts at once? If so might be nice to help it lvl faster if you wanted to. If not no real point in lvling it since no point fishing on it over the ebisus

I only have 3 accounts, so the mule is on an account with an Ebisu. I'm not sure if Lu really helps you level faster if you can aim for the "too small" to catch variety. I actually swapped out the Lu for a Mithran (? I can never remember loll) for my second character because he was only in the 60s when I got him his Ebisu items. If there are options post 75 to level without a Lu - Pterygotus have been mentioned above - is there a point to keeping it? I feel like getting a Lu originally was to make money while working on skill ups, but if you have other characters that can fish Ebisu items, isn't the race just to get high enough skill to get it instead?

Generally, the race is GP, anyone with nominal means can obtain silk/shoot long before they actually have Serp rumors.

Only real reason to level with Lu is that you make a little more gil while skilling up, but it's only a trickle of gil either way for most people.

But yeah. Doing my second account's Ebisu now, went 1/33 on Gugs 1/74 on Liks, only have like 30k GP. GP's annoying as piss. :\

Anyone have experience fishing Black Ghosts? They're stackable and allegedly cap at 88 with no information on whether or not they can break my line. I see the options for fishing from here on out being:
83? - Garpike (Minnow/Composite: Unknown if they can break the line)
88 - Black Ghost (Minnow/Composite: Unknown if they can break the line)
96 - Black Sole (Crayfish Ball/Composite: They can break the line and crayfish balls are annoying, but they sell)
99 - Pterygotus (Lugworm or Shell Bug/Composite: Not "Too Small" and can break the line, but cheap bait)
103 - Armored Pisces (Little Worm or Shell Bug/Composite: Not "Too Small" and can break the line, but cheap bait)

Use shrimp lure in place of crayfish balls for black sole. No idea on the ghosts unfortunately.

Using lures for Black Soles without a Lu would be mean since they'd line break you. Sinking Minnow would be better than Shrimp Lure if he got a Lu though.

I'm not sure about Black Ghosts. I remember thinking about using them to skill up for my mule with the "too small" trick, but wasn't sure if they would break my line with those rods. I ended up not doing them for one reason or another.

I'm finding that Composite/Minnow in Caedevra Mire is:
1) Really really good at hooking Dark Bass
2) Pretty good at hooking Yayinbaligi
3) Shitty at hooking Black Ghosts (but I think I've gotten one - Too small message)

I might have to switch to a different lure. Any suggestions? The only other thing Great Blue has listed is Worm Lure, which also hooks Dark Bass.

FTR, the one Black Ghost I hooked was from the center island of the lake right outside of Nashmau (east). Now that I've fished there more, the number of Yayinbaligis has dropped a lot and the number of Black Ghosts has gone up quite a bit, though I still hook Dark Bass more than anything else. Also, I've only had two "too small" messages from Black Ghosts with a Composite rod.

Edit:
* Worm Lure was a lot better than Minnow. No Yayinbaligi at all and it feels like I get fewer Dark Bass.
* Shrimp Lure didn't get any bites.
* Frog Lure gets a lot of Yayinbaligi and some Dark Bass, but I didn't stick with it long enough to see if Black Ghost will also bite (~20 casts). Something new bit (100-28-8) and I'm guessing that was probably the turtle or the other baligi.
* Sinking Minnow gets a lot of Dark Bass and some Yayinbaligi.

I went around to different bodies of water in the Mire and couldn't find any spots better than the center of the big lake east of Nashmau for Black Ghosts. My bite rate is pretty low, maybe 10% with Composite/Worm Lure. The fish NPC for 600 gil, which is nice, but this might not be a reasonable option for actual skilling considering how shitty the bite rate is.

I have tried:
Composite + Worm Lure, Minnow, Sinking Minnow, Frog Lure, Shrimp Lure

I tried Worm Lure + Composite at everywhere on the Nashmau/Caederva Mire Map, and I went to the Khim map and tried that lake too (no luck with the first three lures). You can safely fish at the Khim lake if you run to a corner (above it on the right) and cast into it. There's a very very small area where you get the "Fish" option. I did not pull any Yayinbaligi/Black Ghosts and got a few more monsters. I had a similar experience in all the other lakes. I did not try the lake on the Dvucca Isle staging point map.

Composite + Fly Lure = As many Caederva Frogs as you can dream of.

I went 1/42 on the shawl for my main, 1/81 on one of my mules, and 0/63 so far for my third. The worst I've heard of so far was an ls mate that went 1/408. It was kind of funny because he was already 0/405 when he saved up 100 to turn in and got it on the third fish.

Noodles, on the topic of sardine balls vs minnow synths, given that the discussion is centered around finding which method of fishing Haks is the most efficient and profitable, wouldn't you want all of your available accounts to be fishing Haks as much as possible, rather than have one burning its fatigue on sardines? I get that it would be a lower level fisherman but then it seems like the priority should be leveling it up rather than fishing more sardines. This is all assuming that you're able to provide all N accounts with minnows though.

When we're measuring the time it takes to run around and buy copper ores and stuff, it seems like ignoring the elephant in the room if the long-term cost of fishing sardines instead of haks on that one character isn't considered, right?
