nope the GM actually asked him first how he could do stuff on his main char and fish on his alt at the same time, before he actually told him anything (that was after he asked him to turn around and stuff)
and yes same SQID i think

wont take you 43 days to get 98,000 GP for the record I got my mule up to skill 50 fishing in a week. using the old tricks of to small for the rod trick your average GP item is far more then 2000 once your that high up.
but if we are taking someone who already has the needed skill (78) to get the E-rod KI then it is faster LOL but I did forget about GP for a min. I still think it would be faster at the min level.
My wifes account, my CC. tell him to hush up lol cant let another person play the account, its yours... If that where true, my old LS would of all been banned because our thf/bards always gave their acc info to us for dynamis.
also does anyone get the idea SE is reading the forums >.>? Looking at second accounts and stuff, they getting all types of anal about fishing now lol.
Actually can get that fast without using the trick. I was using it for awhile but realized per day I was doing better just fishing with rings and in less time. Sorta depends on playing field... I mean if we are comparing a lvl 78 with another character fishing up Erod fish compared to a guy just fishing up his own carp sure. But if we put them on the same playing field and use your erod earings to pay for moat carp... well assuming you bought the carp it costs less than 7 mil and 45 stacks sell a day lol. So 1 weeks worth of fishing just overnight or 3.5 full days of fishing and some ah/trading time can get you lu shangs if you got an ebisu from 0 skill
How this GM acted was wrong (they were baiting you), and this is a case where speaking with an SGM would have been entirely appropriate. While I'm certain there's a specific article on the site that explains this allowance, I haven't found it yet, but this one alludes to it:
http://support.na.square-enix.com/fa...nt+informationThere is currently no way to move a character from one account to another. If you wish to play with two characters simultaneously, you will need to purchase another copy of FINAL FANTASY XI to register with PlayOnline again and obtain another Content ID.
Owning two accounts and playing them simultaneously has never been against the ToS. Sharing accounts is not allowed, but owning and simultaneously using multiple accounts is. Just say that you're playing them both at the same time. Say you use a KVM, or multiple PCs, or whatever applies. (Don't lie about what platforms you're playing on, though.) You should not be threatened in relation to this.
Well he didnt say you werent allowed to -have- 2 accounts, he said you cant share. And his question was valid... sure its fine that you kill a NM with a dual box because youre fighting with them at the same time, but how do you explain doing say.. delve while your other character is actively fishing?
Pressing macro key binds on a second computer? it's not optimal but it's not against tos to suck balls or are gms now gonna judge how well you're playing each account?
Because most of the time whilst fishing you're not actually doing anything. The majority of your time spent fishing haks is hitting /fish, hitting escape, and staring at the screen. It takes like one second to switch window, hit /fish or hit escape, and switch back. The only time you have to concentrate on the fisher at all is when you see !!! (Haks are the only large !!! fish with Sardine Balls).
Your ability to devote 30 seconds away from Delve to catch a hak depends on your role and is debateable, however as all you're trying to do is bullshit a GM, that's irrelevant. Like mentioned above he can't punish you for sucking at Delve by having to afk for 30 seconds fairly often.
lets be serious, without a "helper", theres no way youre going to have time to be functional at anything else that is pretty involved. randomly stopping every 30 seconds to do the fishing minigame.. sure its possible that someone would do that, but everyone (including the GM) knows otherwise, he just couldn't prove it.
Um alt tabbing and hitting escape is signicantly less involved than dual boxing a healer for example. The only time it becomes an issue is when the right fish bites a that's gunna be like 12 times an hour... and since my new ls has me on ochain all the time well I've definitely gone and made myself food a few times and they never noticed lol
Yeah with everything breaking everything recently I'm not really fishing much but for the quests and stuff I had too and I was definitely actively fishing legit with 1 character while fighting a mob I had pulled up with 2 others. Granted less involved fights but also much more frequent pertinent bites. Also depends on what you fishing though. Doing some lower lvl stuff recently was fun. Like I'd forget to check fast enough and whatever was on the line had already half realed itself in
lol i can barely wait for a ship on 1 character while i do stuff with another one. i always forget and 20 minutes later i tab back over just in time for the ship to take off >.<
Their argument is not one against someone else in this thread, it's the theoretical argument they would make with the GM who's role is to uphold the ToS, at which point quoting the ToS would be a sensible move.
No, it isn't.
Unless the rules specifically state that you cannot be active on two accounts simultaneously (which they don't), it is none of the GM's business. There are plenty of real-world hardware options that enable playing multiple accounts effectively and simultaneously that are not against the ToS. By questioning and warning the user about potential punishment, they are discouraging them from a behavior that they are fully within their rights to engage in.
It's a baiting question that makes the user uncomfortable, especially if they aren't intimately familiar with the rules, and can make a nervous person believe they're doing something wrong. How the GM acted was wrong.
If the GM wanted to handle this in another way (though they still shouldn't have asked the question at all), once the user answered to state that they were personally playing both accounts, it should have ended there. That's allowed, and that's it. If someone else observes them acting suspiciously and reports them to the STF, then it's on the STF to pursue an investigation.
Baiting a player into making an admission of guilt, especially under duress and in relation to an allowable scenario, is not the GM's job.
True enough. I guess I'm just tickled that in a thread with players that are (for the most part) obviously not beyond breaking the ToS when it suits their desire to bot, the ToS is then used selectively to support one's cause.
Not to say that the individual I quoted is being hypocritical himself or herself, but within the tone of this thread as a whole, the statement sticks out a bit.
Spirit of the law, my friend. On most issues, that's my stance.
In this specific person's case, it's entirely possible that they may have been using third-party software. As you said, it isn't as if this sort of thing isn't discussed within this thread and by these players. Still, the GM can't harass someone like that. Obviously, a digital situation is no equivalent to a real world scenario, but if a police officer can be suspended for unreasonably giving a civilian shit, so should a GM have to deal with a talking-to from their boss for unjustly fucking with a customer.
Agreed. I was just trying to think of a real-world analogy, and I ended up considering illegal searches of properties without warrants. A person certainly could be harboring illegal substances or something of the sort, but that person still does have rights. Similarly, a GM must treat a player as an individual that is following the rules until given evidence otherwise, and this determination must be arrived at through appropriate means.
