what's the best fish to make use of a pelican ring at 93 with ebisu? all the legendary fish (hakuryu, etc.) are too sporadic to make use of the enchant before it wears.
was thinking armored pisces or cave cherax, but open to suggestions if there is something better.

afterthought: any of the adoulin fish bite consistently? shen caught my eye for the npc price, but hard to find testimony of a lot of the new fish.

There really isn't much point to that ring at 93 unless you are just looking to blue box as quickly as possible. You are already catching your money maker and will get skillups in the process. The effect of the last few levels of skill on bite/catch rate is very small so you aren't losing out much in terms of gil/hr because of lower skill while you will be losing out butt loads fishing up other fish for gil

Anyone using a prog having a prob with all fish IDs showing up as 0-0-0 and the line breaking as soon as you try to reel in any fish? Cause I cam after this update. Never seen this before, weird as hell

I'm leveling fishing and alchemy at the same time, and was looking for a cheap/easy alternative for the 65-70 stretch of alchemy. Was considering fishing up three-eyed fish off of qufim to turn them into paralysis dust (72 cap on synth) because of the 79 cap on the fish would allow me at least some skillups in the process of farming. However, if the bite rate is so horrible I'll waste too much time doing this, no sense in bothering. Anyone ever fished these on a regular basis?

I've done it for the very same reason. Bite rates pretty decent

Yes, to skillup fishing but not alchemy. Paralysis dust npcs for like 400 gil per and there are lightning eles nearby. This is a good npcable pre-ebisu.

So i'm 81 fishing and just got my e-rod a few weeks ago and trying to level.

Haks seem a little too hard to reel in at my level so I was trying other fish for a few levels.

Some people have suggested AP in oldton but I was unimpressed with the biterate but out of the lures I tried minnows worked best.

I've tried pterygotus and mercs/ahts in Nashmau. This is ok but sort of boring lol.

I've tried lvling on the ferry even.

-Bite rate is good with meatballs for titanictus, ryugas, sea zombies
-Will be there for pirate attacks to get sea zombies for drill calamaries, fishing rank(going on atm on our server), guild points.
-titanictus and sea zombies are easy to reel in ... ryugas less so.
-who knows, maybe zaldon will be generous with the mercurial sword from ryugas.

Also is there a more up-to-date db than Kida's? I find Kida's is informative and
set up well with the fish it has, but doesn't have the newer fish(and there have been a lot added).

also is there a reason why people use lures for haks other than the stackable baits?
(bluetail slices etc?)

What's your problem with them? Never noticed a difference in rod movement and break rate shouldn't be more than 2-3% compared to lvl 100. Ryugas aren't hard either. Gugurusaurus for the e rod for example are harder. Frame rate too high?

Most high level stuff has a crap bite rate except nashmau area.

I don't think kida has updated for a couple of years now. Think he's been busy with ff14 fishing. I guess you could try some of the fish from the other update. I'd have to look back thru the posts but a couple of them had nice bite rates and are probably high level

I'm testing to see if Kitron Macarons improve my fishing skillup rate. It will take a long time to get any meaningful data though.

Anybody have any testing/knowledge regarding whether macarons affect fishing?

EDIT: Also, is there an advantage to using Dwarf Pugils to catch Liks without having Mooching? For instance, do monsters or other fish bit Dwarf Pugils less often?
