Is there any evidence to suggest that mooching does anything other than lengthen stamina?

Particularly, does it increase successful land rate of the fish? The market for matsya has kinda staled on my server so I think Id like to jump in and start selling for easy cash, if mooching makes me land matsya easier than I think I might start going after it

My main which has mooching got around the same bite and land rates as my mules without.

It's kinda stale over here too but I think it's barely at the might be about what you'd get with matsya but with more effort mark. Seems a lot less people going for minnows too

I've looked through this thread, and unless I've missed it (let's be honest, quite possible in 3 days and 444 pages!), I didn't see this asked.

Has anyone done a hakuryu bite comparison rate on sinking minnows vs. minnows? I saw comparison rates of sardine vs. minnows, however none done on sinking vs. NQ. Obviously, the big benefit of sinking is you eliminate certain bites (gigant squid, cone calamary to name two). Currently I am T2 on the synth, and it would be a (doable) bitch to gear up being T3 to make testing it reasonable (being a clothcraft main, that's why it would be difficult). But- gearing up to make it a T3 while balancing the two crafts would be a fun project, hence why I was looking for some testing to justify it before I just spent the time/gil/GP to do the testing myself if it hasn't been done before by an alchemy main.

Nope. Just stick with the balls unless you can craft the materials for minnows or buy them for cheap. The amount of time saving up sinking would take too long.

no, I craft right now, as I can do so on the cheap. However, if there was existing data on sinking being better than reg. minnows, it might be worth my time to push my alchemy high enough through skill, GP gear, torque, and a furnishing so that I would be T3 on them. This is only difficult as I'm a CC main- but I really see no benefit of 110 right now, and I've found a happy medium for the time being between the two crafts, if I were to decide on this course. Again, I was looking for existing data; if there is none, it looks like I've got some serious GP to be doing after I finish Fishing...talk to you in two months lol.

Why yes yes I did. At different skill levels. A couple of times. It's there if you go back a bit. Been awhile so I'd have to look but I think I just quit before I got a huge sample size on my main which had the most skill but not much more than 1 of my mules. But I think the rest had like 20k+ casts. Sinking was definitely better at all skill ranges so if you can do it why not?

Sorry about the sample sizes but got bored after manually recording each night for what ended up being a couple hundred thousand casts. Plus kinda stopped because of the crazy influx of fishers

Well there is a bit of talk like 2-3 threads of people wanting fishing to be more "realistic". Ie like a more complicated longer annoying reel in process. Line just stay out there until you reel it in no auto deplete etc. Basically to kill it for anything other than the odd person that doesn't find real life fishing boeing enough. Would be worrisome if SE went that way.

Also I'd have to look back quite a bit but I think when they first started talking about the fishing changes some of them sounded bad for people who fish for income

tbh fishing for income is stupid anyways. this will mainly affect fish availability for BST jugs otherwise

Wow? I'm surprised SE still patches fishing. Are there and legit fishers?

your face is stupid!!! But yeah it's a bit slower than most any other kind of farming but requires much less attention even legitly

lemme put it to you this way, on my server it became a situation where I made 3~4x the money by doing Dynamis or Salvage than I got by getting minnows/sardine balls and fishing a day/night's worth of Haks in much less time. Just started becoming more of a hardly rewarding chore than anything else. I guess if someone doesn't have 2 hours to throw at an event it makes sense, but eh.

It's from an official dev post for marches update. Also there was RoE fishing stuff too. And there is a link to it in the dev note thread here

Sorry I don't have enough posts to directly incorporate the hyperlink but this is the official announcement of the new fishing system.

There are some definite plusses in here such as using the same direction to deplete stamina without regard to camera angle and a reduction in wait time between casts.

As far as the other features mentioned, it remains to be seen what utility they would have. There are only a few fish that non-botters like myself have trouble reeling in and all those are pretty much level 110+. MAking it easiter to catch lower level fish wasn't really necessary imo. However, if i'm understanding the changes correctly, you only need to tap the indicated direction when the arrow appears and not have to worry about keeping the direction pressed and thereby possibly give the fish stamina if you keep that direction too long. This would help me immensely with fish with high frequency rod movement and high stamina recovery when you press the wrong direction(notably ryugas)

    Godspeed.

The visual arrow things and only having to tap are kinda nice especially for fish that fight hard and often barely go one direction to go straight back. Sounds like overall this will be a good update for legit fishing and little to no effect on botting other than breaking them all until people rewrite code for tapping. Does seem to have added a rather large extra amount of complexity though with the whole factors of gold arrows. And really not sure what they meant about the whole higher level/lower level thing since those are things that already happen...
