Report on South Gustaberg fishing:

Fished there for about an hour last night, I kinda had a bunch of stuff come up and was unable to fish for a long time.

Caught:
18 Ogre Eels
13 Gold Lobster
13 Zafmlung bass
5 Bastore Bream

Catch rate was extrememly high for sellable fish above - probably like 8/10 bites was one of the above. Only caught 2 rusty items, and hooked like 3-4 jellyfish which I stopped reeling in. About 5-6 monster messages or so only.

.4 skillup , one .2 skillup on a Gold Lobster, the other .2 on a bass. I was quite surprised at how difficult Gold Lobster are to pull in, they shake quite a bit and don't give you much time to actually deplete their life bar. So I hit 36 skill and hopefully skillup will speed up now.

Anyways, i'll head back there tonight, and hopefully I can get a bit more fishing in tonight.

Update on South Gustaberg:

Last night I fished for about 2 hours, with quite a few small breaks during that time.

14 Gold Lobster
10 Zafmlug Bass
24 Ogre Eels
14 Bastore Bream

With Lobster, bass and Bream able to give me skillup, I got 1.0 skillup there. I definitely sped up as I have started getting closer to the level cap for bass and Lobster.

Great thing about this location too is, aside from the Lobster being above difficult to bring in because of so much rod swaying, it is right next to Bastok so there is a D-box close, and most the fish sell relatively well.

Bream - 9-10K/stack
Lobster- 10K/stack
Eels - 6K/stack
Bass I turn into Galka in Selbina, they can have blue rock inside them, and he gives you 15gil each, I think they NPC for 20gil each by default.

I've also started to have the idea of using the money i'm making fishing, to purchase ebisu rod legendary fish. They go for like 12K and 18K each on my server, and are always in stock. I figure its about the same as catching them myself, since i'm catching the fish for skillup and selling them, and using the gil I get from selling those to buy the other fish for the rod quest. I figure its about the same as either doing dynamis runs for ALL your currency for a relic, or crafting all day and using the money you make off crafting to buy currency. I'm still working for that end goal both ways. Besides, i'm rewarding those guys who have ebisu and are catching the legendary fish for me for the work they put into getting theirs.

So far i'm 0/10 on lik, and 0/8 on gugru's.

Those fish are still averagingin 20k on my server I wonder if it's worth it just to buy them as well... but that'd be online like 5 fish a day...

After 5-6 hours in Kuftal without a single skillup (full-time pelican ring too), yesterday I finally got lucky and got .3 directly followed by .2 I didn't see a .3 since the 50s.

Now at 99.8 ^^v

tbh what really helps is fishing to cap and this is mainly because skillups seem to be so incredibly streaky. I've had many days where in the first 100 fish or so I'll only get .1 skillups, but then in that last 100 I'll get a barrage of skillups. Seems like if you dont fish to cap, you wont get a broad enough range for things to even out.

and in case you didnt gather it from my story earlier, contest this month is largest Giant

I think I still have somewhere a screenshot where I got 2 double-skillups (ring ftw) on the same screen, something like .2 .3 then .3 .2...easy level

I myself am at 56 fishing and looking forward to completing Lu Shangs so I can start skilling up and making gil again. Only about 2400 Carp to go.
