Meh, I guess I just dont know what it is like to fish on console (lucky bastards lol). I think I caught one sole in Qufim in the 30s on Halcyon, but that was really lucky. As for Marlin, I guess if you are going for MKris there is no prob, but I currently have tons of marlin clogging up my moghouse and inventory since I havent had the ability to do the charts yet. Anyways, marlin fishing for rings is much faster to do at high level anyways, so I guess I just dont see the point in fishing them up so early in your fishing career except to waste MH space with two rings you dont even need yet.
Also, if you dont need Lu then fine, do whatever you want. Just saying that in my own experience, Lu is invaluable.
Think it would be entirely possible to get to 100 fishing skill without lushangs but obviously lushangs the best. Not really "LOL" worthy if someone doesn't have imo.
Also I prefered Trumpet shells over marlin for skill up![]()
you want to fund lu shangs by hoping you get mkris drop?
seriously just spend the next week or two fishing up nothing but nebimonites. you'll easily have the gil to finish up the quest
LOL. This is what I tell any starting fishers now. 1-27 on Nebs and by the time you get there you should have enough to buy Lu. I really wish I would have done it this way. Like a tool I actually fished up Moats for like 2 full months. This was also after I had already bought like 1000 fish off AH.
As for the charts, when I first started fishing Marlin, I hadnt started on the Selbina/Mhaura fishing quests to unlock Zaldon, so I had to dump em on mules till I finally got the sandcharm (F you pirates!). Then I was able to trade and ended up failing 2 Briggands and 1 Pirates. Im new to Hades so I dont have a whole lot of connections, but I did make a friend who will help me on Pirates and my friend who I came to Hades with has very little playtime.
Hopefully today or tomorrow I can get both my rings :D. Hell, I may have extras with all the marlin I have clogging up my storage and inv.
Yeah I didnt realize until I had already turned in about 1000 or so carp that it would have been way easier to fish for profit and just buy Lu Shangs. I kept going with the quest because I didnt feel like turning back at that point, but I would highly recommend any other up and coming fishers not to make the same mistake I made.
You asked why you were getting lack of skill messages when you were only 5 levels from the cap of your target fish. From my personal experience, this happens when the rod and bait combo you are using is less than ideal for the fish you're after. It's been over 2 years since I had to use it, but I used Halcyon rod almost exclusively from the time it was introduced until I got my Lu @ 59, and I only broke is a handful of times ever. I would often switch out to a particular wood rod when I was trying to break them for a stretch of Woodworking skillup, and this is always when I would get that type of message.
Maybe you just had bad luck (how many did you break anyway, or did it happen once and you just assumed it would happen every time?); or maybe they've made some adjustments since I had to use a Halcyon. But I still stand by my advice that the problem you were encountering was almost entirely relevant to your rod choice. Sorry it turned into people slamming you about getting a Lu Shangs.
Halcyons break with Marlins almost every time. I was simply using a Mithran with sliced bluetail, and once I got the fish to 0%, it would say you've lost it due to lack of skill. I was trying to figure out whether its something I need to fix by having more gear since I'm only 4-5 lvls from marlins cap, or if its the case of maybe titans (which I don't understand how I could reel in to 0), then it doesn't matter and it is what it is. It would only happen on non-monster pulls, only on !!!s, and would feel no different to me basically that reeling in a marlin. My understanding is that if you get the message, you don't have the skill, then it has nothing to do with rod/bait, I might be wrong....
Do canceled fish count towards your 200 fish-per-day fatigue cap? Like if I cancel ahtapots and mercanbaligi in talacca and only catch Dil will I get 200 of them before I fatigue out?
Edit: One more question, do the finishing gp furnishings effects stack (does having more than 1 add more skill) ?
You are wrong, this message can be gotten with the wrong rod combo. Getting into the late 40's on my first fisher and seeing these messages was exactly why I went and got a Lu. Now I don't get those messages anymore. My understanding is that if you get the message, you don't have the skill, then it has nothing to do with rod/bait, I might be wrong....
I never saw an answer before.. For those fishing on console, are you using keyboard and tap-fishing or are you using controller? I tried both and PC is still much easier for me to fish with, the 360 responds way too slow and it takes forever for me to fish in what is really fast on PC.
Grats!
Was fishing with pelly ring in nashmau last night and this happened:

Anyone ever have this happen to them? I know i got a .4 and a couple .3 skillups while using pelly ring...
Was full moon + lightsday also....
It happens. Pelican ring essentially gives you a second chance at skilling up in addition to your normal skill up rate. Normally this results in skillups more often but occasionally the two skillups will coincide for the oh so sexy double skillup. The best is when you get double .3s but that will only happen when fishing legendaries
Well, i'm glad you found what you were looking for. Instead of getting upset, how about you look above and see that in fact I did answer your question:
Yes, you might not want to hear "You should get lu shangs" over and over, but I think that is just coming from experienced fishers letting you know what is going to make your experience skilling up much easier, that is all.
But, as you see above, I did explain what fish you will get with sliced bluetail, as well as which rods to use for which fishing you were going to target. I suggested to use Halcyon for sharks and cone calamary (hence my "i'm a fan of Composite, halcyon, etc") and composite for large fish, if that was what you were going to target.
Good luck on your fishing!
agreed. its not a matter of "omg u dont have lu shangs yet u noob" i only made the original statement about getting lu shangs because you (arkangel) said you were 6k from completing the quest. fact of the matter is when you're at that lvl, stopping everything and just completing the quest is honestly the best thing you can do to improve your fishing.
instead of getting defensive about it you could have originally explained that catching marlins was part of your plan to get lu shangs (which is still a stupid plan btw) instead of stubbornly continued to seek answers to your question
I've prolly got about 9 ss's of double skillups with pelican on. Think one was .3, .2.
