I am now throwing gil at the quest to just get it done and over with so i can do other things, that is how bad I want this fishing rod lol. Way I see it, if i spend less then say 4mil the E rod will take less then a week to pay off after selling the Lu shang's

i spent around 1.5mil on gug last night, but i guess its good i found a few people to buy from. So I hope with like 2-3 people selling me them a day I can get this done and have my rod next Sunday i had planed for today but i do not see myself getting it in the next 3hrs.

Man, I've been through some incredibly disheartening steaks in this game that cost me all of my gil repeatedly and also my sanity a few times. If I've learned one thing through, it's just keep pushing, eventually the outcome you want will happen.

If curious the 2 streaks I'm referring to in my gaming were 1/137 on cursed mitts -1 which cost me about 25m in the end, and 1/16 on Battleclad Chariot finally dropping Bodb's slops after having the 35 lol. The worst moment by far was after NQ'ing 24 more cursed mitt synths a crafter went 1/1 on the HQ right next to us. I saw the -1 HQ in the chat log just as my friend did the final NQ synth and my heart and jaw dropped lol.

So anyways, keep plugging away, it'll come eventually

Things like this make me wish SE had some increasing % system so that the more you trade in the higher your chances of getting the item are.

Only had the ring proc a few times for myself, but i know on one occasion i recieved a double .3, not bad when .6 could take weeks to aquire at higher level fishing.

I bet the Ebisu fishers on your server love you. On a side note, I hate the ferry, rings dont refresh fast enough, and you dont have much time to catch the Gugs. At least they are total cake with both the rings.

oh they do^^ lol made a lot of friends! gils not really a prob with me atm unless i somehow spend all 8mil from 2 haguns+ lu shang.... if that happens ya i might quit. i dont want to spend more then the 2 haguns and lu shang worth of gil.

I posted this on our LS forums and a few non-LS friends in-game have asked me for it so I figure maybe it can help the occasional new fisher who checks this thread. I'll cut and paste the little guide I wrote which is nothing more than compiled information from pages 40ish+ here. Sooo thanks everyone in the fishing thread, this has been awesome so far, I just dinged 60!



First off, let me give credit where credit is due:

I Resumed fishing sometime in January. I do not ever want to be in nashmau again! I think I was 27 or 30something when I resumed. I caught as many fish as I could stand to catch every single day, All 200 sometimes. The hardest periods for me were the transition periods when I had to learn new fish, (ie canceling the ones I knew were not the ones I wanted) I have had no other income and I've been buying random shit. I currently have 5mil in profits. I do not doubt I'd be around 7-8 mil now if I had not bought random shit. That said. I npced everything.

Istiridye>Mercanbaligi+Ahtapot>Mercanbaligi+Dil (canceling all !!! fish Ahtapots)>Cave Cherax.


Like I said I tried Pterygotus because I did not want to deal with a broken rod but good lord, the skillups were too abysmal for me. I took Cave Cherax in QSC and ate rod breaks anyway. Suckers snapped my line a shitload and broke my rod about twice a day. I could never reach 200 on them either. I think most I pulled off was 100, on average I caught about 75 Cherax, they npc for 1600 gil though, making them pretty decent skillup fish.

That said, this in my opinion is the fastest skill/profit path.

A more detailed guide from the above recommendations

Stage 0.5: Nebimonite
Fishing Levels: 0-27
Area: Ship between Mhaura/Selbina
Bait: Halcyon Rod (or Lu of course) & Crayfish Paste
Notes: Skip moats and hit these up for 27 levels. They sell incredibly fast on the AH for about 9k per stack. To save more gil, buy the crayfish paste at the fisherman's guild for dirt cheap. I'm sure they were exaggerating, but people said they made almost enough to buy a Lu from AHing these from 0-27 instead of spending time on Moats and random other fish.

Stage 1: Istiridye
Fishing Levels: 27-53
Area: Nashmau
Bait: Robber Rig
Notes: These are incredibly easy to reel in and stack. If you are a bit patient they will sell on the AH for 7k a stack, or find a high level bonecrafter who synths them into black pearls and sell to them directly for a negotiable price. They also NPC for 300ish gil. I made 70k my first day just NPCing these while racking in a couple fishing skill levels from 30-33ish. I currently dbox them to a high level bone friend for 5k a stack.

Stage 2: Mercanbaligi & Ahtapot
Fishing Levels: 53-86
Area: Nashmau
Bait: Shrimp Lure
Additional Location: Tallaca Cave, W exit of Nashmau through Caederva Mire near Einherjar entrance.
Notes: A friend prefers Tallaca Cave, the difference is in Tallaca you will also fish up Dil's which you will not in Nashmau. NPC rates seem to vary on these from about 600g on Mercs to 700-1.1k on Ahtapots. Mercs are the Eastern equivalent of Bastore Breams and Ahtapots are the Eastern equivalents of Grimmonites.

This is where a few options seem to open and more research is needed. I will include current information and update as necessary:

Stage 3 Option A: Pterygotus
Area: Nashmau
Fishing Levels 86-99
Bait: Lugworm, Sinking minnow
Notes: Biterate is rumored to be poor on these which is why sometimes people favor Option C, but these will not snap a Lu.

Stage 3 Option B: Dil
Area: Talacca Cave
Fishing Levels: 86-96
Bait: Shrimp Lure/Sinking Minnow
Notes: You will also hit Mercs (single !) which are already capped, and also Ahtapots (!!!).

Stage 3: Option C: Cave Cherax
Area: Quicksand Caves
Fishing Levels: 86 or more likely 99-100
Bait: A MEATABALLS
Notes: These will snap a Lu Shangs and/or your line. If you go this route and do not have WW high enough to repair consider buying multiple Lu's.

Stage 4: Option D: Armored Pisces
Area: Oldton Movalpolos
Fishing Levels: 86+ or more likely 99-100
Bait: Sinking Minnow
Notes: These *will not* snap a line or rod if the fish is completely depleted. Bite rate seems to be equal or possibly better than Cave Cherax.

Armored Pisces are a possible alternative to Cave Cherax and thats where I got my 100 Fishing. They don't snap lines or rods at all and for me the bite rate seemed better than Cave Cherax (though I've heard there are times when Cave Cherax don't suck).

I quit fishing some time back, id say 2 years. I was sitting at around 95 skill at that time. I went to fish up manta, being a noob at manta I picked up cheap baitm, meatballs. Ended up fishing up a few Cave Cherax and got like back to back skill ups. (and a rod break) so I think Cave Cherax are good skill up fish if you have the wood to fix your rod.

I could of been lucky, but I was like O.o!

Shrimp lure in Sea Serpent Grotto at the pond in the room with the Gold, silver bstcoin doors. (i'm assuming you have a high enough character to not get aggro there) and just cancel any !!!'s and cancel the Bastore Breams (you'll know them cause you won't be able to bring them in). I suggest SSG because the ship you have to bother with zoning in and out every trip, as well as sea horror running around.

I ended up fishing yesterday (finally) and it went great! Thank you for the suggestion of SSG. I actually found that pulling in Bastore Breams did not seem that bad and I ended up getting 9 of them. I don't really understand fishing quite yet, so I have two questions:

1. Is it supposed to be possible to pull up a fish that high? (I was between 14 and 15 skill.) Do you ever get a skill too low message and, if so, how does that work?

2. Is it worthwhile for me to pull them in - ie, can I get skill off pulling in a fish that high level?
