I'm at 53~ skill now, and have run out of things to easily skill up on. I did Nebs to 27 and Isods in Nashmau to 53 while working on GP. All the money from that has gone into buying moat carps for my Shangs and I'm 3300/10000 carps.

Carp stacks have been raised to like 5k a stack on Midgard thanks to some retards on the AH, so I was curious if anyone had some advice for how to work on my Lu shang's rod. I was thinking about starting carps every day for the 200 mark, but that still seems like it'll take me ages. I experimented with Noble Ladys on the ferry, but they where a really rare catch, I mostly got tuna on my line with a sinking minnow and halcyon. As someone who doesn't have a lot of money to begin with I'm not sure if it would be a better idea to keep fishing iso's for cash and buying stacks when I find them, or actually trying for carps.

    Any advice master fishermen?
I've never done Moats since I just bought Lu, but I *think* Knightwell is 100% moat pulling up with the right bait. As for the crappy 53-60 phase I just muscled it out in Nash. With +4 from gear and +1 from MH it was a bit of hell from 53-55, but after 55 it seemed a LOT easier. If you dont have an albatross yet maybe try marlins? You can work on charts while at the same time making some gil selling some. Then again I just noticed you said Halcyon and they can break those, so not sure if you can repair.

No I can't repair a Halcyon rod. I was using Shrimp Lures + Halcyon for Mercs in Nashmau but those little bastards like to snap the line off Halcyon. I'm 53.2+4 with gear, and about 20k away from Waders, so I don't get many line snaps, but it definitely seems counter productive since I can't synth my own Shrimp Lures to make up for lost ones on Mercs.

I have put roughly 800-900k into moat carp stacks, which isn't an astronomical amount of money to be sure, but it definitely is a bit and it makes me kind of wary to just go buy a Lu's if I can find one, but with carp prices what they are I think it may be my best course of action right now. 5k a stack carps is almost a 5 million gil Lu Shang's rod, doesn't make much financial sense to me.

Stop what you're doing, fish 200 Moat per day in the desert targeting Sandfish and moat (pretty easy to tell them apart if you want to ignore the Sandfish).

If you have a 2nd account, do 200 on them as well. Maybe even a mule. Once you get Lu's you can go to Nashmau and start on Merc's and Ahatops (however you spell it) and you'll be set on gil til you get your Ebisu (then you'll be RICH!)

Why in the desert targeting sandfish? They can break my poor Halcyon :<

I imagine for their use in pizzas? Maybe?

Hume rod + Little worm at the J-10 pond in Rolanberry[s]. 100% bite rate all the way 'til 200, moat carp every time. You have to be 75 to not get aggro though.

I didn't get that many sandfish, and I don't think I ever broke a rod with them.

I remember hearing you *could* break the Halcyon. Have you actually broken one?

there is a much more effective spot I discovered for moat carps if your home town isn't sandoria.

Al zhabi. Bite rate was pretty hot, there's NPCs in WG that sell ingredients for insect paste (if you can't make it yourself go level cooking to 20 now, it's free with fishing skill and you can make 12 stacks of bait for less than 1K)

Toss in the occasional sazanbaligi catch (gold carp, about 1/12~1/11 bite rate) and you can still end up making money.

What the hell am I hooking in Al Zahbi that gives me a "good feeling" at 49 with no gear on but changes directions 3+ times per second?

    Wow... Hax. 1/44

Here I come Matsya, 3 days to go on the CP update.

Kinda makes me feel a little bad for others, maybe I should go fish up another 100 and turn them in? D:

Okay, really basic fishing mechanics question seeing as I quit fishing when the minigame was put in and just took it back up. I bought Lu Shang's, am at Talacca Cove at 49+3 and totally unable to reel in what I'm assuming are Ahtapots, which headfake me one direction then switch so that when I hit that direction a split-second late they recover a chunk of stamina. Pirian claims he was able to reel these in at 46 with a computer only 5 FPS slower than mine, and I need a lucky break to get these things under 33% stamina. What do I need to do to land these?

When it goes one direction, I immediately start tapping the other direction as fast as I can. Do I need to wait a tenth of a second or so to make sure it wasn't one of these headfakes, or am I losing too much time by doing that? Do I need to download CPU Killer already? Do I need to go to a neurologist and figure out why I apparently have the reflexes of an 80 year old man?

First cast was a crayfish, second a crayfish, etc. Doesn't work, sticking with Altepa, and after 12 stacks of carp and 4 stacks of sandfish my Halcyon did not break.

As for weeks: You're using a lu shang's rod so I can't really comment, but my experience with Halcyon + Robber to 53 to be extremely easy and profitable. The random Merc that would bite, however, gave me a bad time and I once caught an ahtapot which I wasn't paying attention to that shattered my rod however I depleted all it's stamina. (This was at 43ish with Halcyon) so I'm not sure whats going wrong with you. If you find Talacca to be annoying I would just stick with Nashmau till you're higher up. The only difference from Nashmau to Talacca that I know of is the ability to fish dil in Talacca. (Which are 96 and would probably be hell to pull up consistently even with a Lu's).

    Tho I could be wrong!

In another vein tho: Thanks Urat and Nitsuj for the carp advice, Im going to try Al Zahbi as well when I'm lazy, but sandfish are pretty nice for the pocket while finishing my 10k carps.

Dil are a bit of a struggle and sometimes go down to the wire, but nothing like these Ahtapots. They do the head-fake thing too, but they don't do it every 3 seconds and they stay one direction long enough for me to take a significant chunk out of their stamina.

If you're keen to fish up your carps, you can try out Knightswell at West Ron, using willow rod (from Sandy NPC, really cheap, won't break from carps, and deplete carp stamina fast), and insect paste. 100% carp bites from those for mid level fisherman iirc. I fished up my Lu using that method

Doesn't work because Suited Aces mistakes bait, I think he mean Hume rod + Insect ball, which is 100% Moat carp. But still there is a lot of places to single target Moats, but all with Meat Balls. I used W. Ronfaure, and anywhere in Windurst when wanted to random skill up while fishing Moats (Gold Carps 56).

    Weeks:

That's weird about ahtapots + dils, at least from my experience. Even at 68 I have trouble in Talacca with Dil while slowing my PC down to about 20 FPS. Unless you're dieing to get out of the eastern shall shell phase in Nash keep pumping those until 53 then stay in Nash with mercs + ahtapots. I admit I was the same way, I couldn't wait to be done with them, then when I was I wished I wasn't lol. I'm not sure if it's because there is less lag in Talacca or what, but the fish there seem to fight a shitload harder than Nash.

No I meant little worms. I just fished 8000 moats there to finish my third Lu Shangs. Maybe the fact that I'm level 98 and have the fish testimony? idc

I settled on that spot because i didn't have to spend more gil on insect balls. Every cast that wasn't a monster or item was a moat carp for me.

edit: are you sure you went to the rolanberry in the past? and used the small fountain 2? http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Fi...dsSFishing.gif

Wow Weeks, no idea what is going on there. Have you tried Nashmau? How are Ahtapots for you there? I've heard they are easier. Tbh, I didnt leave Nashmau once (aside from GP fish) until 90. Didnt even touch Black sole until then, so I have no idea. Never had issue with Ahts or Mercs in Nashmau ever though. Might want to look into cpu killer though.
