it kinda affects your fishing like a penguin ring

nothing is slowed down, but fish's stamina will deplete faster than usual.

but u cant be too laggy, else the system cannot register your "direction" and u may find it even harder to fight the fish

17-20 fps is the best i would say, for me at least

don't have a penguin ring yet lol

I'll try to pay attention to stamina bar next time

and starting into gugs since they're still just 15k each, 0/23, I can already feel this is going to suck.

I wonder if it would work to just set your background resolution to something extreme like 4096x4096 (or higher, depending on your setup).

I couldn't get that to work when I tried, i set to like 4800xsomething and it didn't slow it enough in talacca on [email protected]|8800gts

if u have the gil, buying is better obviously

and buying 8 gugs per day is ok if your skilling up since you can easily get 100-150k per day

another idea to what u intend to do is fine as well, getting marlins for pirate chart, but i will recommend trying the brigand as well, get kris and sell for money to buy gugs. if you like it this way, do take note that kris drop rate is pretty low, i would say average of 1/10 since i have done this bc like a total of 40-50 times. However you can take advantage of brigand you got, get penguin and eventually have no problems at all in netting gugs

i got many feedbacks in this forum, stating that even at skill 100, lushang + albatross ring is not that reliable on gugs. so i would recommend you to try brigang chart bc as well if your doing the kris way

got 2 for both my fishing ID each.now i can focus on skill up and get my own gugs ; ;

Well I finally verified a decent slow down method today on Liks. I have a decent computer: AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core with 4 gigs of Ram, middle of the road video card and have tried multiple methods of slowing down with a lot of frustration, finally found one that works on legendaries. Steps:

1. CPUKiller using CPUKiller2.05 greedy algorithm. This is NOT the default algorithm.
- To set this option go to Tools>Options>Advanced and change the SLOW DOWN ALGORITHM drop down menu, it will require a restart of CPUkiller

2. Go into task manager, I prefer right clicking on my task bar since alt, cnt, del causes ffxi to crash for me.

3. Right click on POL.exe, Click on Set Affinity, I prefer to uncheck all except CPU0

4. Re-open CPUKiller, I only have to slow down this method to 2%, unlike normally 40%-80%+ or 2 instances. 3% takes me too low FPS and i lag, 1% although it seems the same as 2% does not have the same effect on the fishes stamina bar. I tried 1% on a lik and fished it well but timed out at about 35%, 2% made it a fairly easy catch. I had 5 catches, 3 line breaks, and 1 crazy ass one I couldn't reel in in about an hour.

5. Go into task manager, right click on cpukiller3.exe and click on set affinity, I prefer to uncheck all except CPU0

6. Go into task manager, right click on cpukiller3.exe and set its priority to HIGH.

All in all, this puts my FPS between 16-23ish depending on the zone and gives me the ability to reel in liks consistently at 87 skill with ebisu + support + gear on my fast pc. I didn't realize the rod will not necessarily slow down from cpukiller, but the effect is seen on depletion in the fish stamina bar.

I do my Brigand's chart in group of three? If one of us fish up the pug, we'll hold it until all our charts are done. Give us more chance for 4th/5th box. I could get the 5th box up sometimes, but it vanish before I could put the pole away.

^ is what I was going to post. Try to find a couple other people with brig charts then just random and hope you don't hit the lowest and have to go first lol. Once the pug is fished up just have someone hold it until you're all done. I read somewhere the mob rages so you may need to zone it, then just reclaim as it waddles back.

well the best chance to get a penguin, with 2 fishing and "gutable" ID with zaldon, is to prepare 1 brigand chart on each ID, and about 80-100 marlins on 1 of the 2 IDs.

Go to the BC, start 1 bc first, if theres a pugil, get the other ID to hold it, and practically that BC is done (unless your good in reeling the 5th catch to open that 4th box). Next, take over and hold the pugil, while the other trade and start round 2. Now with the pugil in place, you should be able to fish up the 4th box easily. After round 2 is done, keep the pugil still. Run to selbina, trade your marlins, get more charts. 100 marlins should get u 2 more charts and rush to buburimu finish them before the pugil rage fully.

From what i know, the chance of getting a ring if you can successfully open the 4th box is 25-40%

so if u stick to this method, you should get your ring fast.

setback of this method is, you need to fish ALOT of marlins to prepare and deploy this method. So it is better if both your ID can reel in marlins the same time

Trust me, this is prolly the only efficient way to get penguin. unless you just plan to do it solo... taking the low chance of getting 4 boxes in a row all by your self......or you have some secrets that you can always reel in the 5th catch, getting 4 box + monster on a 100% basis

its not dangerous,but you can still deplete all your MP even as a rdm 75

it can still hit u for 40-50 per hit and fully resisted to sleep

4-5 battles max prolly if you start off with 2 charts only + gutting time + travelling time

For those of you with 100 fishing:

About how long (in terms of hours actually spent fishing) would you estimate it took to get from 90 to 100?

I've been fishing pterygotus in Nashmau, and while the NPC rate is nice and convenient, the skillups have been abysmal. I'd guess I've fished about 10 hours there and only gotten .4-.5, which seems really low, even for fishing. It's a huge difference from when I went 89-90 in Talacca. Do you think doing meatballs on the ferry would be better? About how many titans and titanictus can you get in one trip usually?

p.s. I have woodworking leveled for fixing my lu's.

I'd estimate about 72 fishing hours for me.

I'd suggest staying in Talacca until 96, actually. Skillups will be slower than you're used to, but the bite rate there is high enough that it won't be any slower than the other options. I think you still end up hooking a Dil about 1/4 of the time.

If you want to fish to cap on skillup fish, you can do Black Sole instead. About the same bite rate as Dil, but no other fish to get in the way.

FWIW, my skillup rates on various fish along the way, not distinguishing between 0.1s and 0.2s:

Dil 8/225 (3.6%)
Black Sole 30/442 (6.8%)
Armored Pisces 18/714 (2.5%)
Pterygotus 13/246 (5.3%)
Cave Cherax 4/53 (7.5%) (3 of them line breaks)

I had a ridiculous dry spell on Pisces when I first hit 96, but once it broke the skillups came reasonably fast.
