    Go Go Feather Tickle Spam!

Amazing use of a KC :D

I remember one party I was during my trek to 75 on COR, at around late 60s, I was in a pt of pld/brd/brd/cor/sam/war in mire with a few PLs (3 infact, yes 3 PLs at this late of the game <<) and the PLD insisted on using KC was much better than dual swords.... on flies....

Re: Where has the skill gone??

The problem is not so much that there's easy stuff to grind on. That, to me, tends to be a good thing. Party setups are more flexible than ever. While certain setups may not be the most efficient, they work.

The problem is that there's no reward for being that step above. What if you -had- a party that could XP on Soulflayers? Doesn't help you, unless every other spot is packed out.
More XP from intentionally dangerous mobs like that would be good. Or SE could encourage diversity by amping up CP/IS stuff or merits. Betcha people would be meriting in Sky if you could buy an E. Body for 150k CP.

Or say, make mobs give a third type of points when killed, in addition to XP/limit and CP/IS. For sake of example, say Element points. Maybe have them tradeable for items, for XP scrolls, or unlocking spells/JAs/WS/etc.
Make them vary by family/location of mobs. You want say, Fire points? Great. You've got your pick: demons, arcane, or Tonberries. In Zilart areas only.
If the rewards were good enough, you'd at least motivate some people to take the initial XP/merit cut in order to get something more.

Some sort of hybrid ENM/Assault wouldn't hurt either. A 15-30 minute activity netting some solid XP rather than grinding out squishy mobs could certainly open the door for more diverse setups and strategies.

Frankly though, unless you're getting something more out of it, there's no point in going for harder kills. I don't miss 4-5k /hr buffering at -all-.

It's not like ToAU is the cause of noobs. There were noobs back when the game was released, and up through now. I think excuses are progressively lamer, since it's easier and easier to get solid NQ gear and a good FAQ or experienced player to look to for guidance.

For the record is not that hard to XP on soulflayers, people is just lazy . Granted Colibries are no challenge and therefore faster xp.

Re: Where has the skill gone??

This thread makes me remember all my little exp PT pet pieves.

I seek often/at random times of the day and get a lot of my exp through pickup PTs, since I'm usually not so anxious to exp to make a PT and I don't really care how good/'elitist' the PT is much... But with that in mind I have some really annoying things to add to this list!

I've literally just about seen them all. I've been in odd mishaped manaburns, a PT that asks me to SC, a PT with a SATA onto the PLD tank, a PT with a 4 mage back-line (not the good kind, I've really seen WHM, WHM, BLM, SMN), a PT with a SMN main healing... And I've been in just about every place from sky weapons (recently), to Psychflayers, to inside Halvung.

But you know, none of that stuff really bothers me that much. What does bother me though are these little tidbits:

    1) Colibri camp is not the only fucking camp in existance. I swear nearly every PT I join now will immediately just try to go to Colibri camp, whether or not there are like 5 PTs there. Personally I dislike this camp more than most, especially comparing it to Mamool Ja Staging point which is not only faster exp with the right PT but also almost always empty. Instead of doing this though, just about every PT goes to join the bird orgy where at times you're lucky to pull one mob a minute. Yet, people are perfectly content with this and stay there/camp on top of other PTs.

    2) BRDs, could you please for all that is good stop pulling Colibri with Elegy. No, Elegy on a bird that dies in 10-30 seconds does not make any kind of a reasonable difference. No, Elegy does not always bounce back and land on just you. No, Elegy isn't the only spell you can pull fast with. You could just as easily pull by alternating threnodies and never have to worry about a /recast. Or hell you could even pull with Dia, I don't care. Melees getting 50% slow and having to melee with that on for a short time (durations vary with mages, which in all honesty tends to be rather long on average in pickup PTs), and then needing Erase, is a much bigger pain in the ass than having lower elemental resistance. It's just something so simple as changing a macro for some situations that could save others from having to do extra work.

2- A) What the fudge @ me even having to say this, but if you're a damn RDM/NIN (seems common lately) and there's no /WHM in the PT, DO NOT CAST SLOW II ON COLIBRI. I was actually in a PT recently where I spent almost the entire 1.5 hours of exp with either slow II, elegy, or both on. With no erase in the PT and a BRD that pulled with Elegy + a RDM pulling/debuffing with his awesome maxed Slow II, it was retarded for both me and other melees (and the PLD) in the PT. I can deal with not being hasted but having something like 80% slow is just silly. And even with Erase you shouldn't be casting Slow II in the first place.

2- B) I guess the easiest way to sum up #2 is to not be a dumbass, and use some common sense. Just don't cast stupid stuff you wouldn't want to land on you. And Colibri suck.

    3) Do not ever, ever, invite people for a PT if there are no essential jobs either seeking or available to you. Seeing three good DDs with their flag up but no mages does not mean you invite the three DDs and pray for the next 30m that some mages pop. This one happens a lot, and it's what leads to the really odd PTs since after like 30m of looking for members people just tend to take anything. BLM/WHM? Perfect, you'll suffice for a healing roll. A PT should normally start with having at least a real healer willing to join.

    4) Every person subbing NIN in an exp PT is not the most effective way to exp. This has been another one bothering more recently. First of all, in some PTs with incompetent mages/melees and no refresh then yeah it might be the safest idea, but outside of that no. But really outside of some extreme situations it sure as hell isn't a good idea for the mages to sub NIN (I've literally had a PT with every person subbing NIN including mages in a PT, except me <.<).

    5) No, you can't afk in PT for 30 to 60m. I understand shit happens and RL > game but come on, if you're going to say yes to joining an exp PT you should accept the responsibility that others are depending on you to play your job. If you're leaving to go somewhere soon, then you really have to at least let the leader know before joining or just don't join the PT. Same applies for the person that joins a PT and then leaves after like 20m because they had plans that they didn't care to mention until the last minute.

    6) On that topic, if you have to leave a PT early, the least you could do is find a replacement assuming the PT is going to last for a good hour or longer after you leave. A PT leader goes through the trouble of making a PT for you when you're invited, and the least you can do is help that person keep the PT going if you have to leave. Making PTs isn't easy or fun (for most), so making it even less easy and fun just isn't cool.

    7) PT leaders that lead their PT to a spot where they're literally camping on top of another PT need a punch in the face. Camping next to another PT isn't as bad and is rather common but, what the hell, there's never any reason to be right up the other PT's ass checking their prostate.

    8) The 2h buff turned some melees into Hasso spamming MP sponges that slow down the PT because of having to wait for MP recovery/them to unweaken all so they can do 5 more damage. You know who you are. Stop it. If MP is a problem in an exp PT you shouldn't be using Hasso at all. Thanks to people like this nearly every pickup PT I join now asks melees to sub NIN, and then I have to try to convince them that no, /NIN isn't the only way avoid MP being a potential problem. It's like Seigan doesn't exist.

    9) I shouldn't have to say this but, melees should always eat food. Only place it's somewhat reasonable to not eat food is Colibri camp because of having to carry so many stacks, which can be difficult with limited inventory/funds. But even there I really feel most people should be able to. But outside of Colibri there's just no excuse for not picking up a 2k stack of attack food or at least something.

I think that covers most of the major ones, but I'm stopping myself anyway or I'll get into triple digits before I know it.

Heh i would have expected the god of UPDATED YOUR LIVEJOURNAL-NOT to had more low tolerance for this kind of shit, or just party with LS members.

WTF at not disbanding in a party with a RDM/NIN , I (in a very foolish way) forgot to switch to /WHM in a party, so i went /BLM, to my fortune there was a WHM in the party, sadly he was the tipical taru WHM with shitloads of MP that wastes it in Holy (Elemental Sealed of course), and banish. Fortunately the only one being slowed and dia'd was me most of the time :D

This is my BIGGEST beef in merit parties.

I come on WHM and I see a WAR/NIN, THF/NIN and a SAM/RNG. Well I'll be dammed if the SAM/RNG pops Hasso, and starts off the fight by unloading a slug shot > meditate > slugshot on the colibri, followed by a prompt pecking flurry to the face. Sure you have huge numbers appearing on the screen, but stop fucking doing that. I don't have the MP to spam cure V on you 3 times every fight because you're using a soboro and making the mob spam TP moves on you, and you're too good for third eye.

The best part is where they're standing 10 yards away and cause 2 wasted ws and make the melee chase em all around as they run when the mob comes close.

Exactly, and that's why when they still happen often enough to merit being an all too common problem at level 75... It becomes a pet pieve.

Exp on colibri's yesterday as nin with setup of nin brd whm mnk rng cor. I absolutely hate having to ask for haste everytime after it wears off when the whm has pretty much absolutely nothing to do and pretty much full mp the whole time.

I also hate replacement parties. Went to Adweeya to exp and after about 40 mins our whm gets a blm to replace him w/o saying anything. Great. Then our cor gets a sam to replace him w/o saying anything. Even better.

I'd much rather just disband and form a new group then get replacements. Although I don't feel bad anymore if I have to leave soon after a replacement shows up. This is the risk you take when you accept a replacement invite.

Thanks to people like this nearly every pickup PT I join now asks melees to sub NIN, and then I have to try to convince them that no, /NIN isn't the only way avoid MP being a potential problem. It's like Seigan doesn't exist.

Your Sams can use Guns O.O (j/k)

The worst I have found about this is Drgs. I dont know if there is just a mass penis envy at being a lower class DD for so long, but now with the /sam update and 2 handed update every Drg I know is out to prove how awesome they are by subbing sam and SPAMMING penta thrust with nothing but balls to the wall hasso using so they can be decent on parse. Every time I ask them to a) sub something that is less sponge or b) use fucking seigon, all I get is "fuck that, my numbers will suck then. " (Yes I am looking at you Miraun, no you will not Jump your way out of hate every fight, yes I will watch you die and SS raping your dead body).
