Re: Where has the skill gone??

One thing to clarify so that last post doesn't sound like some personal vendetta. It's not so much that I mind getting elegied when it's actually erased, but when there's no erase/mages that don't pick up on it, it's just a pain. I don't like to ask for erase every time I need it and shouldn't really have to anyway, but between that and either no one having erase or some mages that don't erase it's just some trouble that could be avoided by switching up spells. I wasn't aware of there being some kind of delay most spells have that Elegy doesn't though, seems kind of odd. D:

Best way to get to Mino is to have a BST solo to it, picking up a 2hr'd Oilspill en route. If they know what they're doing it takes less than 5 minutes, and after the draw-in the slime pulls hate pretty much immediately, giving the party time to get oriented.

I've done this a couple of times, the only hazardous part is landing Charm on the Oilspill (definitely don't try it on Darksday).

Theres no senseable reason, but yes other spells lock you in place while the animation goes off, while elegy allows you to move freely. To me its very simular to the terrorga that song/spells can lock party members in. It's only for a half a second(ish?) or so but it is the difference btw. the bird (or any other mob) being close enough to melee you as you pull it back to camp. With birds, it might not always be the case, depending upon their parroting, but elegy also helps the bard in the 5% of situations where their sleeps resist, as they cant use horde lullaby cover the resist.

The quickest way for people to learn wtf they're doing wrong is to be a complete dick. Fuck being nice. I've tried being nice and it just makes them worse. I will shout DOOOOMMMMMAAAAAARRRRRUUUU everytime I see a SAM meleeing in it and full-time AF2 hands. I will proceed to boot all gimp red mages and bards from my party. Level your fucking NIN SJ bard--do you know how annoying it is to see you pull and get two shotted by a Skoffin?

Quit fucking using sushi before 50.

AHHHH I have so much more to go on about but I need to finish homework. >.>

How is it that there can exist a 'remember the good old days' post without mentioning meripo at the Ulli camp? :O

    > "Dammit... Ulli aggro. I was doing so well avoiding him too ._.;"

Fifteen minutes later, the autumnstone goes free lot in the party's treasure pool o_o

Any BRD/WHM who gets 2 shotted by a skoffin doesn't know how to play. BRD/WHM is perfectly acceptable for pulling. I have extensive experience with both subjobs and honestly both are FINE.

However here are some tips for pulling on BRD/WHM:

Use Stoneskin and Blink. You can even cap stoneskin on BRD if you carry enough MND gear on you. I personlly have 75+74 MND on BRD which gives me capped stoneskin. This combined with tacos allows me to take 2 non-crits from a Skoffin before Stoneskin is broken.

All BRDs should be eating tacos in XP now. There's no excuse for not eating them. Everyone else in the party has to eat food, you are not an exception.

Make a defense/-damage taken macro. Earth/Terra's staff, jelly ring, cheviot/umbra cape are an easy start to this. After that just equip your fighest defense gear you have in other slots. You can easily pull with a fast cast/haste stetup with elegy then change to this gear set so you don't get pummled.

When you are mass sleeping links: Don't stand right in the middle of the mobs after you sleep them. Move away from the party and recast Stoneskin/Blink. This way you have a few extra seconds before the mobs come after you to get up your defensive spells and recast lullaby.

These are hugely helpful and allow the BRD to help with curing as well. Personally, if there's a 1 BRD 1 healer party, I always request that the BRD come /WHM to help with healing. 2 BRD parties it's usually best to have 1 BRD as main puller on /NIN and the other Ballad BRD to come /WHM and be secondary puller/sleeper.

Minstrel's Earring is also kind of nice (-30% physical dmg) although it has a yellow latent. I tend to throw mine on when things get a little rough and I'm trying to keep a lot of things napping while party works their way through them (usually at events).

I always thought it was red (<25%) HP? That's why I don't personally carry one around. Regardless, it wouldn't hurt to have one that takes you to -60% physical damage taken from gear alone(. That's probably worth the sacrifice of 2CHR or some skill.

Slight nitpick, but damage reduction caps out at 128/256 (50%).

Re: Where has the skill gone??

I never sub NIN on BRD and it always amuses me how all the BRDs go on about how amazing it is to pull with. Yet when a Skoffin paralyzes them they cry for paralyna over and over then bitch how they lost chain cause couldn't pull paralyzed or they can't get up shadows. WHMs are busy paralynaing the tank and other melee and shouldn't have to worry about a BRD until last. WHMs don't always have Divine Seal available if Skoffins are being whores and you are pulling multiples of them. Can only do Divine Veil once every 10mins. /WHM let's me paralyna myself, keep pulling and help out paralynaing the rest of the party including the healer if they stand in a dumb spot and get caught with it. I also never die pulling Skoffins. Any sensible BRD shouldn't. Stick up stoneskin equip Earth Staff, pull Skoffin to camp, sleep it and the most it will do is take down stoneskin and maybe hit you once. If BRDs die once it is back at camp and slept then that is the tanks fault for failing at life when voking.

subjobs, as with all things(shit), is situational(lol).

But seriously, don't just swear by /whm or /nin, alternate depending on which camp you're going to & rest of pt setup. Using your head isn't difficult.

darn actually knew that but slipped my mind! thanks lol
Point being that I don't think that most BRDs even conceptualize that they have pretty good defensive capabilities. I didn't even really think about it for a long time (Credit to Ruke for pestering me to take the initiative to do it.) but ever since I started doing what I listed above, I've found my survivability has gone way up.

    Ohshit sets of gear ftw.

I don't know why more people don't do it! Every single job has a potential set of gear to help reduce damage taken (some better than others of course). It doesn't take HQs or lots of gil or that many slots, and just about all jobs should be able to make room for it considering that actually staying alive is of pretty high importance regardless of the situation.

I thought I read somewhere that these earrings proc sort of like the Uggalepih Pendant. In other words, you will get the damage reduction on any damaging attack that would result in your HP dropping below 25% (I suppose it would be a simple enough 1000-Needles test to confirm / deny this).

If that's true, then something that would have one-shotted you before, may not while wearing this earring. I wear the BLM equivalent earring in my idling gear along with Terra's Staff and Jelly Ring. Haven't put money / inventory space towards an Umbra cape yet, but I plan to at some point. Mage damage reduction gear is actually pretty nice.

I heard that too, but my WHM earring doesn't save me from 1000 needles, doubt the others work differently.

Re: Where has the skill gone??

This player is an example of how I hate some players that they think they can get away being fucking retarded.

    http://www.ffxiah.com/player.php?id=725767&sid=30

Met her in the jungles as a SMN/BLM. Refused to sub WHM and believed BLM sub helped her nukes do more and said that only because her /whm sub only had cure II it was worthless. *bangs head.

RDM I ran into recently being the epitome of lazy fuck. Seeks all day with BLM sub and refuses to sub WHM at all and then seeks for hours on end because she don't get the idea of that if she wants to get to 75 quickly she needs to try and be more of a support mage.

Out of all the old school camps I loved Den of Rancor and Ro'meave. I had a semi-static and took my DRK to the Den to exp on Rancors before the two handed update. I loved using Spinning Slash with a WAR in a skillchain and cracking over 2/3rds of a mobs life in one shot only to have the BLM finish it instantly with a Firaga III.

Ro'meave..shit it's hard to describe how much I loved exping there. It was nice quiet and easy to deal with pulls. You only needed a good RDM who was on top of dispel and you more or less were getting good chains.

Re: Where has the skill gone??

I managed to collect a large amount of -dam gear for my brd and then they nerfed mazurka hate, so I sold it (go go inv+).
I have found (in merits) that it's far better to wear skill/chr gear and not get resisted than to be able to take a few hits and chance getting a resist.

On a side note, /whm brd can achieve a pretty good amount of MDB, which help greatly in tank party situations.

As long as the RDM is not main healing, /WHM is normally optional and often times not optimal. Subbing /BLM does not mean that a RDM is lazy, just that he/she likes his/her MP pool.
