SMN needs the autorefresh from PLD sub.Originally Posted by Sekkite

Lol. I really wonder what utility a SMN could get from subbing /pld. I'm no PLD or WHM; does Flash require divine skill for accuracy or no? Aside from Flash, wow, that combo is worthless.Originally Posted by Maxxthepenguin

It was actually for Flash vs. Kirin the time I went SMN/PLD, we had more than enough healers etc. So the WHM sub didnt provide much to the alliance on that run, so I used /PLD for flash, occasionally flashing Kirin to help out the kiter in between using diablos. I had access to the Cures still, tho none of the -na spells, but those weren't needed from me then. Flash didn't ever get resisted. I wouldn't go around subbin it every day/event, but like I said, Utility.
/DRK I used on things like Xolotl when we did with low numbers (2-3 SMN) for stuning -ga 3. When using these two hate stacking spells, I usally equip my crow's gear/haste gear for the enmity down and recast. I had also used /DRK way back when I had to solo THF AF3 (just to stun the bomb).
/RDM is for thinks like Lamia .13 Assault
/WHM for most things, and that sea backdoor to town is useful when no warps around.
Use your sub to be of the most use to the effort, on a situational basis. Depends not only on the event, but the makeup of the effort (jobs).

PS2 and European releases ruined the game.
There are no doubt some very good and skilled players through each release, but the amount of retards the game has gained through these releases far outweighs the amount of good players. Before the PS2 release, the game was much nicer, like all these things you guys are talking about in reference to how things used to be.
I lol'd, more would easily state that the PC release ruined the game.Originally Posted by Wizerd

Maybe, but people still seemed more intelligent before PS2 release than they seem now. Maybe because the game has evolved a lot and the intelligent people learn to adapt, while the new people (not necessarily PS2 or European I suppose, but a lot of them talk like they don't know how to form a sentence, I can only assume ESL) jump on bandwagons they know nothing about, and learn nothing.Originally Posted by Ryko
*thinks* ok so PS2 release was fine, but I still think the servers shoulda been separated into Asia, North America, Europe, with anyone outside that being placed by region.
I'd like to see a clickable button added to the equipment screen, labeled "Detailed Stats". In there, you could find more solid information on your stats other than Attack, Defense, and elemental resistances. In there you could find your Acc, R.Acc, MAB, M.Acc, and other things clearly quantified. In turn, newbie players or more casual people that claim they don't care could easily see where they stand in relation to well-equipped, veteran players. Maybe SE could take it a step further, and for non-NM's, pop up a detailed stat screen for when you /check enemies.
Hell, they could even limit that second part to only people that choose to quest a new Rare/Ex ranged/ammo item that grants the skill "Libra" or something. I don't know. I don't know if that's realistic or if it would even change anything at all (a bad player is a bad player), but it wouldn't be that hard to implement and really, what's so bad about letting us see more stats about our character and exp mobs?
F***ing kids these days. Back in my day we all had to walk to our exp camps...uphill...both ways...in sandstorms! We ate our Meat Mithkabobs and Melon Pies and we liked it, damnit! If we were really good we even got a chain 6!
You wipper-snappers and your fancy-shmancy runic portals and TP burns and what-have-you...bah humbug. Humbug, I say!
And it was that RDM's prerogative to not want to main heal. A lot of Red Mages hate being in the main healing role and would rather be in a support role, and it is a perfectly reasonable desire. She knew that she was going to lose out on parties with that stance but it didn't seem to bother her, so why does it bother you? If the she did not want to main heal, you just move on and hope another RDM or, better yet, a WHM pops. It is not fair to force someone to do something that they hate just to gratify your own desires.Originally Posted by EssEnnKay
I agree with the thought process of "if I wanted to main heal, I would have leveled WHM." And I have leveled WHM. I would much rather main heal on my Galka because WHM is much better suited for it than RDM. RDM can throw out fast Cure IIIs, but WHM has such wonderfully MP efficient cures with their extra potency gear and the splendiferously delicious Regen line with beautiful merits that make them even better. (Not to mention Devotions that can split a Paladin in twain.) In comparison, main healing on RDM is like trying to saw down a tree with a Swiss Army Knife.
And if I want to XP, I have an Adaman Hauberk and a Ridill that whisper in my ear that going on RDM would be just plain silly.
when pc released, it required a relatively significant hardware platform (for the time) and the general US MMO market was an older demographic than it was today.
when the ps2 version released, the platform was much more accessible and the brand (Final Fantasy) lended toward a younger demographic than those that would pick up a PC-MMO title.
not that younger kids are necessarily less mature players, but generally speaking a younger demographic contributes more less mature players than an older demographic; regardless of region.
honestly, I think the biggest change was when the game first went from JP only to JP-NA.. the cultures are vastly different.
it just took until after the na-ps2 launch for the prevailing attitudes on most of the servers to shift to NA cultural styles. (time lag or critical mass of players I dont' know.)
playerskill is down today because the best and oldest players are quitting - the worst players are either too dumb or too new, older players aren't helping them get better or the 'bad' players are refusing the help (calling the older players elitist for trying to explain why something doesn't work etc) and character strength has risen faster than the general difficulty of the game and as a result you don't *need* to be good to get most things accomplished so not enough people care to get better.
who remembers when dynamis period used to take the teamwork that 12-18 man dynamis takes today? the community has got the pulls down to such a science now that except for the /assist (a job that can be taught in two runs) and the main puller (a job that can be taught in 10 runs) the group can basically be sheep (stand here. kill these. stand there. kill those. rinse, wash, repeat.) and you'll still get clears.
most NM's are a joke these days; but the gear is such a low drop rate that they're still overcamped and still a bottle neck; so SE thinks the content is still popular; when all it is is that the *items* are still popular.
adding 'scan' to the list of white magic spells (say: level 10 or 15) would probably solve the 'detailed' information too, if it was detailed enough.
especially if said spell worked on players too.
QFT. Its the easiest fall back, anyone that has more experience and telling them anything, is an "elitist". Also, what I think contributes is Power Levels. Really, it makes leveling some jobs alot less painful for veterans on thier 3-4+ times around, but the downside is often newbie players get taken along for the ride, and leapfrog over the essentials.Originally Posted by Amele

I'm simply not willing to even try to help anymore. I know I can be a really blunt, cocky dickbag when I want to be, but generally when I try to help people I'm totally nice about it ... but last time I offered someone a suggestion in an exp pt, he blew me the fuck up with a dozen insults that made me think he's a Counterstrike: Source player or something. I've just given up on it; they always think they know exactly what they're doing and are doing it just right.
(Ever suggested to someone to remove <call>'s and useless /p drivel from their macros? These people can get especially abusive. Jesus Christ dude, I know you're trying to spam Cures on the tank, we don't need a /p macro to go off every time you mash your macro. Same goes to the tank that's mashing his Provoke macro, we DON'T need to know it! I won't even get started on the {Last Resort} DRK's and those SMN's that think that everytime they summon an avatar, they're performing some kind of holy ritual.)
I totally agree with Arkanna. I've tried to better so many through advice, and all you get is shit saying "you're an elitist", and nubs with huge chips on thier shoulders. Once in a while you get someone completely open to learning, taking advice, and really heed suggestion and you SEE thier progress and improvement... but these are few and far apart. Though it still gives you hope there are those recognize that there is always room for improvement.
I have someone on my friendlist what was leveling WHM 53'ish when I was leveling DRK or SAM, forget which. He was open, and toko advice on everything from gear, to useful order of spells, and in what situations they can be used differently. I think he's WHM 70 now, and better or just as good than alot of WHMs I've come across. Its one thing to be ignorant, but another completely to believe you have nothing to learn/improve from the more experienced. Many of the newer players seem to have this attitude because they keep getting thier hand held, and ls-mates who keep telling them "they are great", for no other reason than stroking thier ego and ww'in it up.
Every time I make a party and see one of those stupid /p macros, then another on common spels... I feel like disbanding.
