Re: No Party > Slow Party

I don't see how people can say "Slow exp > no exp" when the amount of time you put into a slow exp party could be put into other things, such as crafting/farming/quests/missioins/etc. Unless you have absolutely NOTHING else to do, you're better off rejecting exp parties that aren't going to be worth your time. Go and make your own party if you're really that desperate to party, instead of sticking yourself into a really slow party.

When it becomes "I must maximize the output potential of every possible moment spent in game, " is it even a game anymore?

Never said it had to be maximum. Half-decent parties are just fine. But getting 5k/hr for four hours instead of crafting for two hours then getting 15k/hr for four hours makes absolutely no sense.

I was seeking to get buffer on my Thief a few months ago when I got a pick up party that was fucked up beyond belief.

    Pld/War
    Rdm/Whm
    Whm/Blm
    Mnk/Nin (full af)
    Thf/Nin (me)
War/Nin (mainhanding Saparra of Trials, offhand Tungi)

Lowest deck Bird camp, I was pulling, 9/10 times I was the only one fighting before I soloed it to 80%, Pld couldn't hold hate, and War nor the Mnk would use shadows. We did like 7.9k/hr for about an hour and a half before I couldn't take it and got the fuck out. It was worse then most pick up dune parties I've done.

I still remember back when players would get invited into jp parties, like in 04, and everyone would /l OMG IM IN A JP PT RIGHT NOW, HI2U GODLY EXP LOLZ.
In my experience as a BRD, someone who has been in more than his fair share of "JP ONRY" parties because JPs seem to make exceptions for NA BRDs... "JP ONRY" parties are only viewed as less full of dipshits because you can't tell that they're dipshits based on what they say, since you can't understand most of it.

Most of the "JP ONRY" parties I've been in ranged from average to crappy, including stuff like WHM RDM BRD SMN PLD DRG setups, parties disbanding 15 minutes after getting to camp because a DD has to go to lunch, 2k an hour fighting low VTs in non-ToAU areas because someone DIDN'T OWN THE EXP PACK AT 65.
I've been experienceing this on Bard (only just 50 now). I get far more invites from JPs than I ever did on PLD, no surprise there, and if I'm in the mood I'll usually put some simple romanjii in my /search comment if it's not 4AM in Japan.

Just on Saturday night I was with a pt that was 4xJP and one NA NIN (who was actually pretty decent) in Crawler's Nest. As usual, people are lvling NPCs and shit and clearing everything out of the doughnut leaving me with very little to kill. After a while the xp slowed down considerably because of people leveling, but I and the NIN just couldn't get it across to the leader to move to a different zone. We were doing like 8-9k/hr in the first hour, but once some ppl dinged 49 it went all to hell. It seems like the JPs were just happy to suck up the slow xp instead of move to a different area. Perhaps that's a cultural thing, not to change plans in the middle of something but it got on my nerves pretty fast.

Though, I do enjoy that on Bard I can pull a crappy newbie party up above 5-6k/hr standard areas.

If you being a THF in a party, and a PLD doesn't have/hold hate, you're obviously doing something wrong. Your job... maybe?

The rest of the stuff about the WAR and MNK not using shadows would be fault on them. But like I mentioned above, seems like you might have been just as much a contributor to the bad situation/slow xp if what you said is true. Seeing as if the MNK or WAR wouldn't use shadows, getting hit would lower the mobs hatred toward them... but if the WAR and MNK sucked like you said, I don't see them pulling much hate. Even if you hadn't mentioned you were the THF, my first comment would have been "sounds like your THF wasn't doing their job either".

Not a personal stab, I don't know you. Just my take on the story.

Hey, I don't get less than 10-15k/hr at any level when I get to TOA zones, or any less than 8k/hr in mainland zones, ever.

I call it; linkshell parties or statics.

Linkshell party/static, or I don't xp. Simple as that, lol. At least four out of six linkshell. I haven't been in a full pick-up party in nearly a year.

I never said they did. I enlarged the second part for you tho. The poster of the story apparently felt hate management was an issue. If he is complaining about it, while being a THF, then umm.. yea. Can't very well complain about something that's within your control to change. Next white mages will start complaining the tank is taking damage, and not getting cured...

if I've solo'd a mob to 80%, a pld isnt going to get hate off me with a simple flash.

Indeed. Now given that, would you bring up him not having/keeping hate as an issue? I think what you might have been trying to defend is getting lost. Or the assumption that I suggested a THFs role in a meripo party was incorrect. There isn't even an argument worth making out of this.

I think what the first THF was trying to say is that because the other pty members were sitting on their asses while he pulled/bitchslapped birds, hate control went out the window once the poor dears realized "Dur, monster".
/-Plds-/|Anyone not holding hate with a THF in the party has nothing to do with the THF if the monsters not sitting still because the melee's suck.

I only made the comment about holding hate, because they were were making me pull and it's fucking retarded to have the party chase you while your trying to pull the next bird just so you can hit Chain 7 at bird camp.

I would TA+WS every chance I got, but 90% of the time after soloing the first 20%, the TA+WS would only hold hate till I did SA, then I was tanking again.

Instead of seeking you should make your own PTs, it is ftw. I am a lvling RDM (58) now and I made a 2BRD, MNK/WAR, RDM, DRG/WAR, PLD/WAR pt and we cleared the ley point and were the only pt there.

Shitty exp is a little less (though not much) shitty when it's done with friends and you can dick around. Having a brd Viralai(sp?) a bird, or taking that BLM to bird camp and playing AM roulette when no one has shadows lol.

Re: No Party > Slow Party

My main problem aside from the fact that the zones are always crowded when I exp, is that I mostly exp during JP times. I am in the EU and my LS is NA so I am usually 1 of about 5 or 6 people on the shell at the time so LS parties are not an option for me a lot of the time. If I don't exp during EU/JP time, I rarely get to exp at all. By the time all the NA log on it is LS event time and a lot of my LS exp once events are done which is when I finally get to bed. When I do exp with the LS, I agree that it is definately the best parties out there. However, it is very rare that I turn down pick up parties when I seek, mostly because it is near impossible for me to get an invite from stuck up JPs during their time. I am currently sitting on 430 active merits on my 7 jobs which I would not have gotten even close to if I hadn't chosen to exp with pick up groups. I even got a pickup group once that got me 70k exp in under 3 hrs altho this is a rarity. People just have to be willing to give it a chance tho and just not say they will never ever seek party. I am a BRD and I love pulling in parties so that I don't fall asleep with boredom and I personally am content if I get 10k an hr because then I know I still got a few merits worth out of my time.

My current project is to finish my DRG. Given the above, I don't ever turn down a party invite on it. It can take up to 5 hrs before I even get an invite if I even do when I flag up for the day. JPs and inviting DRGs is so 'yeah it will never happen'. I am so low on inventory space now that I want to just finish it to 75 and retire it to free up space as soon as possible. I have even taken to doing Beseiged again just to get an extra few K exp on this job (altho I fell asleep during double Beseiged last night because it lasted so long and bored me to death -.- )

Pretty much I have nothing else to do in game with my time except exp (unless I am really one to cause myself pain and try mining/logging again for Salvage Materials), so for me slow party > no party most of the time as it gives me something to do. And at least if its a slow party, I can quite easily watch a movie while I exp :D

One of the other secrets to fast(any) XP. No Leader = No party. If no-one makes the party, there is no party to get invited to. 6 of the right jobs will sit around for hours on end with their flags up sometimes than one person taking the initiative to bring it together. Hoping that somewhere, someone, will need a replace and they will get invited, of course then the party will break 15mins after they arrive. If its your party, you always have a party. Using that, you'll be able to take all the seek-time, and multiply it by an xp/hr rate.

Even with some more unpopular jobs (like my bst), you still get crazy exp because "If you build it, they will come". Same case as you mentioned before, with people seeking like you are. They get an invite, they're going to take it. They just want some(any) xp too.

I gotta try that one . Also i love pity parties as we call them, is quite relaxing, and for some reason i stay focused for longer than in your average party.
