    I phone.

    In Canada the I Phone is releasing like the end of november or something, but a friend of mine goes to the states buys them and sells them here unlocked for $500.
    I was reading an article in which Steve Jobs said that anyone with unauthorized I Phone would get them locked via some software he's sending to all I Phone's or something.

    My question is... What are my chances of getting my Phone only for it to become worthless in a month or two? And has anyone in Canada gotten one and hooked it up to their current service provider (Either Rogers or Fido) via SIM card without a problem?

    I dont live in Canada but I have been keeping up on the news regarding iPhone unlocks and 3rd party apps. The iPhone was released with software version 1.0.0. Not too long after it was released it was hacked for file system access and shell access. There were 2 more software updates 1.0.1 and 1.0.2 which had some minor fixes but never added extra security to the phone. After these 2 updates 3rd party apps were picking up on the iPhone and some other people got farther with unlocking the iPhone. Eventually a software unlock solution came out that works by modifying the baseband of the iPhone. Apple then releases software update 1.1.1 anyone that had a unlocked phone and updated ended up with a bricked (broken) iPhone and the phone's security was updated so shell and filesystem access became much harder to crack. 1.1.1 is just now being cracked but I'm leaving my phone at 1.0.2 untill 1.1.1 is found to be stable with 3rd party apps.

    You can get an unlocked phone and leave it at software ver 1.0.2 without any troubles. The software updates for the iPhone so far have been optional. 1.1.1 brought the new wifi mobile itunes store which cannot be accessed from 1.0.2, and any other new features brought in new updates you'll have to forget about until higher software versions are cracked.
