You and i must be living in completely different worlds if you haven't noticed any changes. Regardless, the guy din't get props alone, he's rightfully sharing the award with scientists that also worked to make sure more people actually cared about global warming. There is hardly a reason to denounce Gore being included into the award, even more so when one considers how ambigues(sp?) the Nobel Peace Prize has always been.Originally Posted by Ryko
Al Gore definitely deserved this prize. We all knew Global warming existed but was anything actually being done on a world wide scale about it? Most civilized nations are now doing something about it (or trying to). 10 years ago if you said global warming was real people would dismiss it, but now there is actually discussion on the reality of it.
I finally understand why you have an Aegis instead of GK Relic. You get to argue on BG forums while tanking afk.Originally Posted by Ryko

Guess what? THAT'S A HUUUUUUUUUUGE FUCKING DEAL.
And no, it can't be attributed directly to Gore. But guess what? If nobody's out there saying shit, nobody's going to do shit.
What the hell is wrong with honoring people that dedicate their lives to bettering the world?
Is it a sign of the times that we give the nobel PEACE prize for an environmental concern that's entirely worthy in it's own right, but maybe out of context here?
It seems sad that while I kinda raise an eyebrow at this selection, I can't really think of someone that deserves it.
That's basically what I thought when I first heard about this lolOriginally Posted by Tristam
We? I had nothing to do with it.

Nothing, except I think in gore's case, saying he "dedicates his life to better the world" is a bit strong.Originally Posted by Plow
he's made a very serious foundation with the intent of bettering the world, its not like thats an every day occurance
Manbearpig is all I have to say.
What's your definition of peace? It doesnt have to be directly related to war and armed conflict,it can also be related to the well being of the planet population. Global warming has the potential to seriously fuck up certain poor country, and finding way around it is probably going to save a ton of people.Originally Posted by Sagus

Is the Earth getting warmer? Yes. Humans are having an effect on the rate, but not nearly as much as people like Al Gore would have you believe. The planet has gone through several temperature cycles, some of which have been *significantly* warmer than we currently are, we just happen to be on the upswing into another one. Even some of the facts he used to make An Inconvenient Truth that weren't outright exaggerations were taken from the government study on global warming where they purposely deleted the warmer periods in the past to make it look like what is happening now is a big OMGWTF. And yes, they did later find the memos and papers later where they admitted as much and gave the reasons why it needed to be done, for people who may think this is like claiming Bush blew up the Twin Towers. If you believe that humans are the driving force for a warming world because of An Inconvenient Truth, you should also watch The Great Global Warming Swindle.
Michael Jackson is gonna win nobel peace prize next year.
It's also conflict resolution and prevention.Originally Posted by Kaylia

Do you know why people deny Global Warming is happening? They don't want to give up their lifestyles, so they ignore the science. The science is becoming impossible to ignore, to the point where George Bush, who up to two years ago was still claiming that "all the science wasn't in, no proof of Global Warming yet", to a month ago, where he held a summit on Global Warming after the UN session in NY on Global Warming, talking about the need for every nation to cut carbon emissions before it was too late.
Al Gore has been talking about Global Warming for two decades, since he was in Congress, has created a foundation to combating its effects, and, along with the United Nations council, was awarded for being one of the most influental people at getting the issue into the public spotlight. Anyone who says "wtf" to Al Gore is talking out of their ass, and probably has never had more exposure to him than an episode of South Park.
