Well the truth is none of us have done the scientific research so we don't really know for ourselves the truth, we have to choose to side with the apparent majority who seems to have most of the backing or the apparent minority who tends to sound like they're full of conspiracy theories about the other side.

It's not about being some sort of scientist to know these things for sure. The least one can do, and the best, is simply find all the literature possible about global warming, for or agaisnt. Not just that, you have to research into almost every temporal aspect of the planet so you can understand what they're saying and be able to discern if they're full of shit and trying to manipulate research, or if it's an honest finding.

I'm still reading up on alot of climate literature, thanks to my geography class which got me started on it. That's what i don't like about these arguments sometimes, people show up using their own uninformed opinions or side with whichever side seems popular. If people actually cared about these sort of things they should really read up thoughroughly(sp?) on them, instead of accepting everything scientists feed them.

"Scientific research" aside, what has he really done? Is there anything hes done that wasn't just for his own benefit and gain? Do people really believe he's doing this out of the kindness of his heart? Be realistic, hes obviously getting a lot of good attention and his just rewards too(like this for example). I hate how people make it sound like hes some saint "dedicating his life better the world", as if he were sacrificing his holy time to save humanity when in actuality hes profiting just as much.

who said they shouldn't? I'm just pointing out that the praise is undeserved. Hes not doing jackshit, just doing his job and making money/earning publicity. Are you going to give your garbage man an award for recycling your plastics and newspapers(becaz it r helping the environment raite)? no, because hes just doing his job, that hes paid to do, which is probably the only reason he does it, not because he gives a fuck about the planet.

Personally, I'm grateful to many people for just doing their jobs. People who have hard/dangerous jobs like police and soldiers, people who have important/beneficial jobs like scientists who make things I care about. Don't make it sound like getting paid automatically means you get no credit for doing something. Even if Al Gore is an environmental activist "just for his own benefit", all that makes him is Human. And it doesn't make the cause itself less worthwhile.

As am I, I never said anywhere I have a problem with what he is doing or discrediting what hes doing. I'm only saying there is a difference between doing it for personal reasons/money/publicity and doing it because you actually care about the cause. Recognition for which is which is important, people need to see the difference. Many donators and volunteers help better the world all the time, some even anonymously and refuse payment or recognizition, to me that is way more applaudable then some guy going around taking 100,000$ for giving rehashed 75min speeches. but thats just imo, if you see it in a different way, congrats, you have an opinion too.

All I'm saying is that there's no reason someone can't be doing something both because they care about the cause and for the money/fame/whatever. Gore just doesn't seem like the kind of person who would do much of anything just for the publicity (and he doesn't need the money).

That's recently, AFTER his big fame thing. He's been at this for a long, long time. When demand reaches such heights that it has after the movie was released, the supply has to start charging a premium.

If he wanted to make money he could have done MUCH more profitable things.

If you look at actual data samplings from around the world, there is an overall UNDENIABLE Global-Warming trend, as far as I know, nobody denies this be they large companies that have lots of pollution (CO2 Emissions) or environmental activists. The debate is over the cause. Temperature records date very far back and extremely accurately in several locations. To give a rough outline here are some los chartos.

Over the past 200 years, CO2 ppm have gone from ~280 (1800 A.D.) to ~370 (2000 A.D.) That is a freaking 32% increase in CO2 levels. Surely this tremendous increase in CO2 would give drastic increase in temperature -- oshi it doesn't. In fact temperature averages have changes very little over the entire globe in the past 200 years, with a noticeable but slight warming trend over the past 150, with an acute downward drop at the 200-150 margin.

Whether or not global warming is caused primarily by human pollution or not two things are certain.
1. It will take a long long time to manifest into a large scale problem
2. It can be fixed

As much as I hate it, this is pretty much where I stand. I do not know, hell I don't even know if it's really "knowable" whether humans are contributing to global warming.

However, I -do- know that humans are raping the air and water quality, warring over energy resources, etc. If the "human-caused global warming" turns out to be a huge hoax, but we end up with cars getting another 15 MPG higher than they were, cleaner energy sources that are local, etc., it's hard for me to get too riled up about it.

This is exactly the stand many environmental activists privately take. It's a little bit like a "for the greater good" campaign -- while it may or may not be true they think the ends justifies the means.

If you want to do something helpful good, you shouldn't fucking lie about what is going on to make it happen, even if it is for a good cause. I am all for cleaner energy sources etc. I'm not trying to say fuck the environment, but it is ridiculous how many people blindly take as cannon that which is not clear, it's no different than religious fanatics who incite war or whatever because they think God told them it was a fantastic idea while they were high off who knows what.

If you want people to convert to cleaner more efficient energy sources, for example I'll take hybrid cars, you shouldn't say:
Will help prevent Global Warming! <call4>

you should say:
-Uses less gas saving you money and emitting less pollution
-If all of America's SUV's were converted into Hybrid cars America's dependency on foreign oil would be slashed
-From sources just as reliable as environmental fanatics or evil money grubbing sadists the media has taught us (Claymore, Blade, etc.) that Hybrids fucking kick ass, don't you want a kick ass car?
