Re: Full Guitar Hero III setlist leaked

Preorder'd, played in the gamestop today, I'm psyched (even though the booth at the gamestop had horrendous video lag and the volume as all the way down)

My original technique was something similar, but I consider the rubber band cheating. I'd actually flip my hand around (Herman Li style!) so that my weakest finger (pinky) is anchored on the green fret. However, rapid strumming is MASSIVELY penalized in GH3, and is no longer an effective strategy like it was in GH2. I've gotten the farthest by strumming at half tempo, and doing pulloffs for the high note to the low note. If you miss a single note and get off tempo though, your rock meter gets hammered.

Tapping is definitely the way to go here if you are good at it, as it allows your hands to move in the quickest possible fashion. If you slow this section down in Practice Mode, you'll be amazed at how much faster its going than you think. (When you hear the song, only half the notes are really emphasized, so you're essentially listening to it at half the speed the notes are played at)
So you lose more points? Damnit. They definatly made this game harder than the last one.
Not more points (Extra strums never cost you points), but the rock meter penalty is much higher.
The easiest example of this is Jordan's solo B vs Through the Fire and Flames' intro. In Jordan, you could strum at obscene speeds, and most of your extra strums would be ignored. This was a valid surviving tactic (although it didnt earn you many points). In the intro of Through the Fire and Flames, if you were playing on GH2, you could do the same thing and stay in the yellow/green the entire time. However, on GH3's engine, you will fail within 7 seconds, literally. Probably faster.

In general, the game is much harder. Chords are much more strict (all the buttons must be pressed at the exact time of the chord, otherwise it will not register, unlike GH2 where you had a tiny window). Rock Meter depletes much faster in general, and even moreso thanks to the boosted strumming penalty. Songs themselves feature MUCH more vicious solos, especially once you get to Tier 7 and onwards.
However, HO/POs are even more forgiving than GH2. I personally like this a lot, it actually feels like exactly what I'm doing is registering with the game for once, as GH2 occasionally had a "WTF" moment, where I knew I did the solo right, but it still broke my combo randomly in the middle. This really never happens in GH3 now. It also allows for much more complex and crazy songs, so you feel so much more like a "Guitar Hero" while playing. It also increases the technical difficulty of the game, more complex songs = more difficulty FCs, so it will be much more interesting to compete at a higher level, and it will be much easier to differentiate between people of different skill levels.

Yeah, GH3 was leaked like crazy.
If you have a modded PS2 (or any way of playing games on the PS2) you can just download the game off of a torrent tracker.
If you have any Sears nearby, a LOT of them are breaking street dates for the game (PS2/PS3/Wii/360, some have bundles too). The one near me isn't, but a lot of people have gotten the game that way.

I personally have the PS2 version from a torrent. Normally I wouldn't get a new game like that, but since I already paid my $100 for the 360 bundle in full, I have no real moral problem with it.

Ah, so you're just playing the PS2 version before you get ready for the 360 release? Smrt. And with that Sears tip, I'll be paying them a visit tomorrow. =D

Good idea, just make sure you make it quite clear its guitar hero THREE. I called in advance, and they said they had it. I came there, and they had a copy of GH2 for me I asked for 3, but the manager said they didn't plan on getting their shipment for it until friday.

I know some people in Long Island, New Jersey, and Minnesota all got copies from Sears though, so its definitely your best bet.

Think I wrecked my x-plorer guitar tonight, downward strum is all of a sudden super unresponsive. GH3 can't come soon enough

well its also multiplatform and the games arent crossplatform multiplayer.

that kinda makes doing a tournament rough as you'd have to do 1 per system.

It's not going to be people playing directly against each other on a single platform, you play on your own system, take a picture of your score and email it to me or PM it on the forum.

It doesn't matter what system you play on, anyone can take a picture of the score.

Then i'll award points to whoever does the best for each song and we'll go through the whole game, and i've been given the go-ahead on some cool forum related rewards for the winners.

I know, the idea isn't to play it multiplayer directly vs. another person.

You play a song single player as many times before the deadline as you need to practice, you take a picture of your highest score. You submit that along with anyone else involved, whoever has the highest score wins etc...Scores get tallied week to week, at the end of the last setlist whoever has the highest cumulative points wins.

And, i've gotten the go ahead to award forum related prizes to the winners, so there's actually something to win. (I dont' want to reveal what they are now, but they are pretty cool as far as the forum is concerned)

That entirely depends on if people are interested.

So far only one person has actually PM'd me that they wanna do it and which difficulty, and I could find a few more in the other thread who expressed interest at least.

not really enough to do anything worthwhile though. So far I think the only difficulty people that've said anything would be hard that'd have more than 3 or 4 people. I think only bob and like 1 or 2 other people said expert and not sure if anyone said medium.

I'd say for this to happen at all there'd need to be at least 5-6 people per difficulty, otherwise what's the point.

Yeah I meant rock meter, not points. Also to Epical, def call before hand, don't drive all the way out there then find out you have a shitty Sears like mine.

Phoned Sears today, the guy who ran the "lectronics" department sounded like he just did about 10 pounds of crack. I asked if he had Guitar Hero THREE for sale, and he replies with "No, I don't sell the Xbox 60 anymore". I was like, uhh... I'll just wait until Sunday. Crazy bitches at Sears.

Hey Sky, here's a decent "idea" for the tournament. Just divide it into different sections: Expert, Rocker, Normal, Groupie, etc (regardless of system). The songs are to be chosen randomly, and respectively to their level. The number of songs is to be decided as well as when is the deadline to submit their scores. Tally up the scores to decide who gets eliminated, etc. etc. I mean, I know you mentioned not having that vs flavour, but at least there would be some rules.

I'm down with normal difficulty, and whatever song.
