you would think that it would be as simple as the POL person tracking down where the various items have been traded off to, but unfortunatley they are yet to do anything.

the character has since been seen running through Jeuno, presumably to list more of the items onto the AH / offload gil and has since logged.

Since it was my account that was cleared out, let me share a few things.

For one, I don't give anyone my Content ID, or my password. My husband can barely remember his own let alone mine, plus he was at work when it happened, so I know it wasn't him.

Two, I play on an Xbox 360, and have none of my account information on my computer at all.

Now, here's how everything happened.

I logged on this morning to do a little soloing on my blm in Bibiki Bay, when I got booted off. When I tried to get back on at first it kept saying that my internet wasn't connected, and then when I finally got through the dozen PoL errors, it said that my password was incorrect. This was about 2 hours before PoL's customer service was open, so I couldn't contact them. While I was waiting, I got my husband to give me his credit card info so I could reactivate his account to see if my character was on. By the time I got on, my character had been either logged off, or hadn't been logged onto yet.

Finally, I got a hold of PoL customer service and explained what had happened. At first they said that it had been SE who had changed my password for the security thing, but when I told them that I was on that morning they quickly got my info and changed my password. While I was on the phone with them, Rya sent me a message telling me that my character had been on.

I have to say I wasn't entirely surprised to find things missing, but when I finally logged on and saw what was taken I literally wanted to scream. Not only did they take my high gil items, they took the small things too. My elemental staves, lower level rings which only cost 20k at the most, Errant body and legs, even my level 30 RSE.


I've talked to at least 4 GMs today, and quite a few people from Customer Service, and each one kept insisting that I somehow left my account vulnerable, or someone had been to my house and used my Xbox and kept the information. Now I might wear glasses, but I'm 100% certain I would have seen some random person playing my Xbox, and considering I've only lived in Florida for a month, and don't know a single person well enough to allow them into my house....well you get the picture.

I don't know how my account was hacked into, but what's pissing me off is I found the guy selling my stuff in a bazaar in Rolanberry. When I told the GM and let them know, they said there was nothing they could do. I mean come on! Someone hacks into an account, and the evidence is in their bazaar, how the hell can you do nothing?

All I can say is, watch out for Phojun on Phoenix, he might end up bazaaring your stuff in Rolanberry next.

Well, someone who could verify that they were who they claimed to be was on the phone with them while SE could see the account being looted.

If someone was taking your stuff, you can't be logged on at the time to witness it. There's no way to actually know the stuff was being yanked at the time of the call unless you were having a constant re-login war over POL and you saw more stuff disappearing--so I'll assume this is what the OP meant. Logging onto POL to your account if someone was already on it would have DC'ed them (at least that's how it's gone if I move from PC<->PS2 without logging out, then a ~30 second delay before I can log in again). Essentially, once able to log into POL, it would have been impossible for someone to raid the character any further if you kept spamming your login... unfortunately this isn't exactly common knowledge and is hard to think up in a panic

If there was GM involvement, did you try to explain that it was a documented call with customer service? The GM could have at minimum looked up who the gear was passed off to, and where and when... and assuming it was a 'random' hacking likely could have chased down an entire ring of RMT as a result by gil/item passing or an IP address block.

I also hate to ask this but... 3rd party tool use at any point? Husband potentially sold the acct to RMT (thus why all the tradeable stuff was gone, but ex/rare junk left over for gearing purposes)? It would be horrible if that were the case, but just about the only 2 ways for someone else to access your account is data taken from a hack, or because you gave the info to anyone else... so you can't overlook the husband...

Sadly, I can't imagine GM restoring any of it because of that last scenario I mentioned--otherwise people could fake getting hacked to pass/dupe items and gil around =\ Really really lousy situation but there's got to be some internal drama involved..............

The way you worded that sentence makes me wonder about something. Was the account originally yours or did you buy/get it from someone else?

No, my password had nothing to do with my PoL account, or any information that pertains to anything to do with FFXI.

And yes, the account is mine, has been mine for the past 4 years. The reason they said they would have changed my password is because it didn't meet the new requirements of 8 letters long and being alpha numeric. That was the first thing the guy said when I told him that my password had been changed.

And no, none of my credit card info, or address wasn't changed, but that could have been because I was on the phone getting my password reset while they were in the middle of taking my stuff.

I played on PS2. My husband plays WoW, so I generally don't get to play much of anything on my PC.

All I know is I'm taking a serious break. After talking to 5 GMs and an AGM this morning, I've found out that they aren't going to do anything to the person who hacked into my account. I wasn't worried about getting my stuff back, but I wanted that bastard to be banned. They keep telling me to call the police, but what the hell is that going to do? The police are just going to laugh and ask say so what? Unless they were able to gain access to my credit card info, there's nothing that can be done. They hacked into an online game and took fake items, it's not like they hacked into my bank account and robbed me.

What really pisses me off is the fact that each one of the GMs have said that they aren't responsible for the security of my account. I've done nothing to compromise the security of my account! I don't play on the computer, so I don't have windower, or hacks. I've never given out my account information to anyone other then my husband, and he can't even remember his own password, let alone mine. What the hell else am I expected to do? Change my god damn password every day?

It's sad, it really is. Four years I've played, four years of building my character's gear up, and it's all gone in twenty minutes and the person who did it gets away, and with all my stuff too. Well, all I can say is Congratulations SE, you've probably lost another customer. Even if I do come back, it'd probably only be because of the friends I've made in my ls, but it's definitly not because of their wonderful customer service.

(if I read right) you said the account was yours for the past x years, but if it was someone else's, or you used someone else's email on the account, when they changed the password they sent it to the email. If the owner of the email/someone who had access to the email saw this they couldve logged on/changed it on you after it was changed by POL

Have you tried escalating the matter to a senior GM? If I were you, I wouldn't let up for a moment until all available options were exausted.

Better keep being persistent about it, there is only a limited amount of time they keep track of missing items from an account (11 days I believe?).

Also, I'd suggest you put your focus primarily on your gear having been stolen and your account having been compromised as opposed to seeing a mule with your gear. You can mantion the mule as an offhand thing, but using it as a primary argument makes you look less credible. Besides, if the mule really does have all your gear and they trace it back to the mule, than he'd be taken care of regardless.
