Failed Assault= Lose Mercenary Points?

I did several assaults last week and Abquhbah, when asked about mercanry assessments said "President Naja will want to have a word with you after a few more successful assaults!"

I did a couple more and I failed (stupid lebros supplies is impossible) lost 4 Lebros supploes

then i won 2 Excavation Duties and talked to Abquhbah again and got:

"Hello...I've recieved glowing reports someone's been a good little mercenary,you finally pulled yourself up from between a worthless pile and a good mercenary" blah blah blah etc..


It seems the Assaults i failed actually subtracted rank up points because usually you only get the first message (president naja wants to speak after a few more wins) when you're like 2-3 away from rank up quest.

So just wondering cuz wiki doesnt have anything on it, does losing an assault count against you?

This could explain the problem the guy was having in another thread where he swears he got 25 points, but it wouldn't let him rank up.

You know, I actually believe this might be the case. I was pretty close to CS for a while, attempted Lebros Supplies and failed, then won it, and I was still in about the same place. It took way more assaults to rank up than I originally thought. But I doubt that someone will actually go through the necessary testing to find out for certain though.

My group was on our last clear for CS, I think, and we were trying Searat Salvation. We failed 2 times, cleared on the 3rd try. Didn't have any problems ranking up.

Also, when we were ranking up to FL we did Lost and Found and failed once then got it the 2nd time and had no trouble ranking up.

I really dunno, I want to say you miss counted, but I'm assuming you're keeping close tabs on on your points for clears.

Maybe you only lose rank points on failed assaults that you have already completed?

I wasn't keeping tabs on my wins, however I know for a fact that the message that Abquhbah gave me said:

"Let's see now. A few more successful missions and the president herself might have a word with you. Keep this up and the next mercenary rank is not far off!"

Then I lost 4x, and his message changed to

"Hello... Seems someone has been a good little mercenary. You have some glowing reports from the Commissions Agency here. You've finally pulled yourself up to the borderline between worthless pile of beaten pulp and respectable employee."

I then did a brand new assault which gave me +5 points and his message returned to
"Let's see now. A few more successful missions and the president herself might have a word with you. Keep this up and the next mercenary rank is not far off!"

I'm really not sure, I remember when I heard about all the rumors of people losing points before I decided I was gonna keep a definite count on how many points I had. I ended up printing out a table with each person, who had which zone cleared, and how many points we each had for rank up. We had plenty of fails (10+) in our journey, I just listed the two above because they were right before rank up, but in all that time the points I had written down always came out correct for when we should rank up.

Is it confirmed that Abquhbah has a set dialogue when you are nearing rank up, or does it change to a random message after you clear an assault area? If it's just a random message he gives after you clear an assault that could be the problem, otherwise I'd say just start tallying your points on scrap paper and see if you're actually being penalized for losing.

This is the most important option that Abquahbah offers. You are told indirectly how many Assaults you will need until your next Mercenary Rank promotion. As you progress, you will receive the following dialogue (in order starting with fewest missions completed):
"At your current pace, you'll be doomed to a meeting with President Naja's spiky “friend”."
"If you want to dig yourself out of that pit, you've got to hit the Commissions Agency and run up some successful Assault missions.... (That's the only option left to you...)"
"Hmmm. You seem to be out of the woods as far as being beaten to a pulp goes, but you're still somewhere south of the middle."
"Hello... Seems someone has been a good little mercenary. You have some glowing reports from the Commissions Agency here. You've finally pulled yourself up to the borderline between worthless pile of beaten pulp and respectable employee."
"Let's see now. A few more successful missions and the president herself might have a word with you. Keep this up and the next mercenary rank is not far off!"
When you are able to rank up, you will be told:

"Hello, hello. You'll be hearing from President Naja any day now!"
After getting Promotion Quest, Abquhbah will tell you:

"(Poor thing, you'll wish you'd stayed a worthless pile of beaten pulp...)"

2 days ago was repeating one, had 3 people. I d/ced, came back but ran out of time. Repeated and won. I had 24 points going in, and got the 1 point allowing me to rank up. So didn't loose any.

Mercenary Assessments are not 100% accurate, you can't go by them. The only accurate way is to track your own points.
