Yes, he's done such a terrific job too.

Regardless, Colbert isn't someone to take seriously in an office position if he doesn't even have any stances or views he'd like to express.

And no, my statement wasn't ignorant. Why would you vote for him other than the fact that he is Stephen Colbert? You wouldn't. That would be ignorant.

lol @ people taking this seriously. did you expect him to play that four-necked guitar too?
as for that bridge naming in turkey, a bunch of fans on his webboards were distributing programs that would auto-vote for him like hundreds (if not thousands) of times per user. that's the real reason it was a landslide.

as for write-ins, i think it'll be interesting to see the % of the popular vote he might eventually get in the end. even though i dont believe he is running seriously, i'm sure there are enough stoners out there that will write him in.

I'd vote for him because, just like Reagen, he doesn't take shit from anybody.

(i wonder if "man of the year" producers would sue him lawl)
I doubt that they would sue him, since the premise for their movie was based off of the fervor for Jon Stewart to run for the Presidency.

And since they probably want to forget about that abortion of a film

    Re: Colbert For President

You shouldn't automatically rule him out just because he is an actor. Hell, a lot of people thought Schwarzenegger was joking when he ran for Gov of CA, but he's done a pretty bang up job turning this economy upside down (lots of good legislation passed in good economic sentiment, i.e. the indian gaming bill, more taxation for schools, etc.). The fact that Colbert has such a wildly successful, funny show about politics means that he knows whats wrong with politics. You can only make fun of something when you first fully understand it and then realize what it SHOULD be. So to say that he is uninformed about the world of politics would be, well, uninformed.

    Re: Colbert For President

I am a huge fan of the Colbert Report and I watch every single episode. He is extremely funny but most people try to look past what he says and try to get substance from his how...

Steven Colbert is a comedian... He doesn't share the political views that his character expresses on TV and it's pretty ignorant to say that you would vote for someone like Steven Colbert. Saying that you want to vote for Steven Colbert is no different than saying you want to vote for Chris Rock for his stance on issues in "Head of State".

Behold... Another reason I believe voting age should be raised to be 25 or higher.... I'm a hardcore Republican but I would rather see someone vote for Hilary and actually use the vote they have than throw away a vote...

I'm voting for Colbert cause I live in NY. People talk about throwing away a vote but it doesn't matter who I vote for or if I even vote or not here.

No, but I would vote for Stephen Colbert.

How I lothe the term "wasting a vote" a perfect example being Minnesota's super sweet gov.Pawlenty(read:Disaster) I'm not huge on following the debates or anything like that, I'll typicaly go along with my every day life, and then sort of 'study up' the week coming up to an election so I can make an educated vote. So I'm reading the points and counterpoints of the three candidates, and I'm thinking I really like this independant Tim Penny, it's too bad he's not from a major party, so I look at the poll results, and turns out it's 27% tie between Pawlenty and the Democrat(name escapes me) and Penny running at 25%, so I think, hey they didn't ask me in this vote, I think I have a chance if I vote for penny.

The big day comes and I go out and put in my vote for Penny then proceed to go about my day. I was shocked to get home and see on the evening news that Penny had only recived 2% of the vote and was well out of it. All these bitches felt like they could vote with their heart on the polls decided it was gameday I guess and flocked to the two party system, I was pissed, not just because they changed their vote, but it ended up being really close between Pawlenty(who I strongly disliked) and the Democrat, who I gladly would have voted for to cockblock Pawlenty, but because people were afraid of wasting their vote, my vote in effect became wasted.

Funny thing, my dad got sat next to Tim Penny on an airplane a couple months later, my dad got to talking to him and he mentioned my story(belice me I've had this rant before). and Tim just said, "well I knew my family was the 1%, I was wondering where the second one came from."

I would vote for him because I watch his show and care deeply about politics.

It's the same reason I'm going for Obama. In this day and age track record means next to nothing, especially for candidates who come from congress. I want a president who has a strong character, principles, convictions, and good moral judgment that he/she will stick to. (though not hard-headedly like Bush. Basically, I want an intelligent, insightful, flexible human being in the white house for a change)

Really though, Colbert (his character) running for office is actually a very brutal indictment. One can very easily interpret this as Colbert the man making a fierce statement about how the presidential elections are one giant fucking joke, so hilarious and completely absurd it's worthy of his show.

I have my money on the notion that he'll come on the air tonight and drop out of the race.

Or, that within the next 12 months he'll enter and drop out a minimum of three times.

    Exactly.

He was quoted on CNN today saying that he is running in the South Carolina primary (Charleston native!) as both a Republican and as a Democrat so that he can lose not only once, but twice.

    Colbert is a genius.

This is the correct answer, and I too, and following this logic.

I'll vote for him just to see the look on Bill O'reilly's face when he sees how many people (read: kids) voted for him.

based on the fact he almost got a bridge named after him (he won in a COMPLETE landslide if i remember correctly) and the sheer number of his audience, i'd like to think he can sweep the 2008 election if he really wanted.
having a bridge named after you is far different form being elected president.
In this day and age, and considering the candidates, I beg to differ.
