Re: How much would you pay? (Nintendo games)

You could always get a Vii and pay $5 for games (once you figure out where they go)

Jesus Christ, $71 for Final Fantasy III? It's like $30 in the states... and $90 for Zelda? Good lord, highway robbery in Australia...

IMO, anything above $60 is too much, wait a month or two and grab it at $40-50. Normally games in the states are anywhere from $30-60, $90 is like...SNES days...

Re: How much would you pay? (Nintendo games)

    For whoever asked :

Xbox360 with 20GB HDD and wireless controller (this is the 'standard' model here) :

    $529 AUD = $471.94 USD

    PS3 standard edition

    $999 AUD = $891.85 USD

    Wii

    $399 = $350~ USD

It's literally cheaper to get the consoles shipped from overseas, and in the PS3's case, 20 times better since games are region free so unlike XB/Wii , nothing's being missed.

Yeah, I kinda gave up console gaming since last year, the only times I buy a game is once in a blue moon when it's something big like FF12 or SSBB.

ouch, the falling price of the USD rears its ugly head.

This is probably going to get worse as Bernanke isn't afraid of inflation. Makes me glad I have so much in AUD (don't ask me why lol). But since that obviously isn't the topic of the thread, I think at those prices you should just wait until they are cheaper. You may not be playing games as they come out but I don't think there are many games released these days that warrant a day 1 purchase at full price anyway.

I think importing will ultimately be frustrating when you do want to get a new game and you'll experience delays and added costs. Or you'll run into trouble from merchants like the guy in the other thread. Plus region-based sales determine whether games/systems are even released in your area. Games are still cost efficient $/hr of entertainment (most times) so I don't think its a big deal.

DVDs and games are the few things I spend my 'entertainment' dollars on so I don't mind paying a little extra for things I really enjoy. Those prices reflect the costs associated to bringing it to your market, so I say just deal.

edit: some of the above doesn't apply for region-free consoles

Unlike when I was in USA, games don't get cheaper after a month, hell not even 6 months - 1 year, I can count a lot of last year PS2 titles still above 80 bucks. It's a very different gaming world down here unfortunately.

Thx appie! Gonna check that link out after work.

    Ouch.

I'm annoyed that games still cost $10-20 more here (in Canada) than they do in the states, even though our dollar is now on par, but you guys have got it worse.

Meh. I don't have any trouble paying 8-12 bucks for a movie ticket, which is a measly 2-3 hours of entertainment; paying 90 bucks for 40+ hours still sounds like a bargain if you ask me :x

Getting the games for free is an even better bargain.
