MvC2 is NOT spammage, that is probably why you were getting beat on. It has the largest following in the tourney scene as well.
... in the USA. I'm sure you have seen/experienced high level play so no need to explain the skill level involved but you can't say its not spammage. Obviously it requires skill and timing but you are still throwing out assists every few seconds (if that) and supers everywhere. With the increased size of the fighting arena you might not even have your opponent on the screen as you pummel him with assists. Thats spam.

I am not knocking people skilled at that game, its just not clean gameplay to me, and I prefer what I perceive as more civilized fighting games (CVS2, 3S, Alpha, etc.)

MvC2 is all about space control. If you equate that to spamming, then whatever works for you. But my definition of spamming is quite different.

The fact that the most popular characters (Sentinel, Cable, Magneto) can guard break a full health replacement out of the air from across the screen sort of lessens my faith in the art of 'space control' in MvC2. It's the most imbalanced fighting game since SF2.

Have you player Marvel Super Heroes? >.> Game is retardedly broken, much less than MvC2.

The problem with MvC2 is the fact that the lower tier characters have 0 chance against tournement level characters. This is just a more apparent problem with 52 characters, when 9 or so are playable. If you meant by glitchy, well, that's Capcom's fault really. I swear they don't test there games past making sure it turns on, then tossing it at SVGL, SJGL, MGL, or w/e is still open these days (maybe its FFA now? I dunno been a longtime since I played in Cali).

Noone bitches about 3s being broken because of the trifecta (Chun, Yun, Ken).

No video game is perfect, and it's certainly not the case that I hate MvC2. I just hate the scene. Bunch of thugs like JWong and Sanford fucking it up with their trash talk and unchanging, uncreative play. By contrast the best of the 3rd strike scene is healthier, even if JWong keep trying to poke his little turtling ass into it from time to time.

In MvC2's defense a lockdown battle is beautiful to see (Duc at evo2k5, Clockwork any time he gets his Strider/Sentinel/Doom teleporting pattern going), but I get tired of that faster than I do of an army of Yuns versus an army of Chun Lis in 3rd strike. In short it's easier to see what's going on in a 3rd strike battle and that makes it more satisfying from a player's and a spectator's point of view, increasing it's appeal to me in the competitive scene.

Screw Evolution. If you wanna see some REAL fighting game tournaments for 3s, GGXX, Virtua Fighter, Tekken, etc, look up Super Battle Opera.

I guess the scene is just differant in the northwest, always seemed more friendly to me. I guess maybe I'm spoiled playing with people like Rowtron, Jmar, Ratana, and Codiliciouz on a daily basis, they are all pretty stand up people. Except when Rat is drunk. Oh and Cody sucks. >=(

Also, I kind of have a spoiled history with 3s, I got to play with KO and KSK for a month before going to evo2k3, the 3s scene has been very healthy here.

Gonna jump in late here, but MVC2 is probably one of the lowest class of fighting games there is. Sorry, but thats just the way it is. Its terribly imbalanced against top tier characters when compared to everything else. KoF, GGXX, and CvSNK are probably the most balanced, and well created fighting games of the generation. It will be hard to compare with those. MVC2 recieves so much more credit than it deserves. And its a shame that it really is so attractive to so many people because of its learning curve.

The learning curves in the former mentioned games are much steeper and require and intimate knowledge of each character to be very good at it. Simply put MVC2 was a money project, GGXX absolutely destroys it, but doesn't nearly get the recognition it should. Only recently has it begun to surface as a mainstream fighting game.

YouTube and/or buying DVDs should give the effect Huggo was going for. Certainly a lot cheaper than flying to Japan.

Yeh no doubts, MvC2 is broken as all hell. But jesus CvS2? The whole game revolves around a bug (roll canceling). Don't get me wrong, it's probably my favorite fighter of all time, but come on, the shit is terribly broken lol.

Had to go back to watch Daigo (Ken) and Dustin (Chun Li)'s fight again. The way Daigo finishes him off with the full 17 hit combo tech-counter and finished him off was just amazing and I can't help but to get goosebumps, heh. Was definitely an awesome fight for sure. D: Can't wait for this though, seriously.

Quoted for truth, how anyone can call CvS2 balanced is a joke.

Agreed too that MvC2 is broken, though some of its predecessors weren't half as bad, Marvel Super Hereos vs Street Fighter springs to mind.

That said, broken fighters can be fun too, like my favorite, Rival Schools.
