Street Fighter games still rely on the same 6 buttons for the most part, though most of them nowadays have alot of combinations mapped to the shoulder buttons since trying to hit all 3 Punches/Kicks at the same time on a controller can be a bitch.
And as for sticks/gamepads, one just needs to try pulling off some of Akira's more complex combos (or his goddamn knee attack) in Virtua Fighter (#) to know which one is better.
I think the art design is pathetic and while the gameplay looks smooth in that trailer, just the animations are going to make it sluggish. I'd really need to play it before I make any futher conclusions. The revenge bar sounds neat, similar to GGX's burst but with more functionality. The concept is good, but this wont live up to it. And as for the controller v. Arcade sticks, it really doesn't matter. Some people preform exceptionally well on both, knowing how to play on the sticks doesn't automatically make you a good player.
I personally am a console gamer, so I don't invest into one of those because I have no need to. Although if this does surprise me I'll probably purchase one.
EX comes to mind after watching the video. And that's not a good thing![]()
Thats exactly what I was thinking. If you look carefully the Hadoken animation and Shuriken animations are almost identical to what EX's was, and that was a terribly slow and sluggish game that could of potentially be done very well in the standard 2d format.
It's pretty bad that III looks better than IV lol... what a bust.
It's like at 5%. It'll be refined a great deal.
This depresses me.I just don't like what I've seen ever since the first pictures came out, it looks ugly to me.
BG Boards, handing down verdicts and sentences on unfinished products since 2004.
The main producer is responsible for Capcom Fighting Jam, which worries me. But I still respect the fact that the game is nowhere near done yet and between now and release the animation and lighting (probably the two ugliest parts of the movies) could get significant work. I was really hoping they'd do more than create 3d versions and copy the color schemes, pixel for pixel, of all the old SF2 Turbo artwork.
It doesn't need to be done to pass judgment on it. In that interview they made it seem as though that is the direction the game is heading in. Its relatively safe to assume that the art for one wont change, and that the animations wont be changing too much either.
Like I said the concept is good but the execution is poor. Yeah its different, but they tried to fuse two different game styles and failed miserably. 3D animations using 2D mechanics is just retarded, and thats how that game is built.
Except they aren't trying something different. They're trying something that they failed on three times already, and something that SNK/Playmore has failed on twice as well.Originally Posted by *Shinzon*
Its true, I phrased that poorly. But yeah its a concept that just hasn't done well in the past and I see no reason why it would be any different now.
They should seriously scrap the project and start over. If it was only at 5% they wouldn't be showing any pics/video by the way. You've only seen what they want you to see. I bet its more like 45%.
Also, everytime you see a beta or early production video people say, "It's early, they will fix they way it looks" and it never happens. 10/10 times
Closer to 8 out of 10 times. Titles like Tekken Tag Tournament got much better looking in the localization process ('oh hey there's the toggle for antialiasing').Originally Posted by Weltall
Sure the odds are bad but by god you guys seem to want this to fail so you aren't proven wrong, ever.
Its not about being proven wrong, I'd be happily supprised if it was good. But thats not how the track record is. I'd love a new street fighter game, but I don't want a half assed crossover game. I want a pure 2D game the same style that helped them create a franchise over it.
I don't mind the 3D variations at all, but they just never work.
"failed miserably?"
did you look into the future at the reception of the game when it's released or did you simply decide it failed because you don't like it?
if you just want a good 2D game, play 3rd strike or the other hundred 2D games in existence; there are in fact people who prefer change and progression over rehashing what's already been done a million times
"The thought of making SF4 fully 2D did cross my mind, as it would preserve the traditional gameplay. Guilty Gear does a good job of holding the torch for traditional 2D fighters, and Capcom's upcoming high-def remake of Super Street Fighter II Turbo has it covered for us. I don't want to brag, but if you look at Street Fighter III, we've pretty much done all that's possible with animated sprites. There's simply not much for us to learn from doing another 2D game."
All that is fine, except when they go 3D it sucks complete ass and bombs in terms of sales. So regardless of what they've done, doing this poorly isn't going to help them in that regard. Like I said I prefer the 2D platform, but I DONT mind the 3D platform if its done well. EX is the perfect example of them going 3D, and wasting their time with it because it was so poorly constructed. This granted, has more potential then EX ever did, but the gameplay looks just as sluggish as EX was.Originally Posted by Cheerios
Been playing SF since I can remember...maybe not competitively but I love the games. I like the direction this is heading in, as long as its not going the PS2-3D EX series, I'm good ;3
