You should be able to hit much higher than 1.3k consistenly with soul eater (provided you have a brd or cor or both), its a 4 hit WS and from full hp with all 4 hits landing you should be getting atleast an extra 500 damage out of Soul Eater unless you're a taru with mp merits.
In the spirit of the topic, here is a couple of SC that amused me on Nyzul f80 boss.

While this isn't going to seem incredibly awesome, reconsider that this is a One Handed weapon with only 39 damage and it's a single hit WS.

On an EP BLM <_< Needs moar MND+
I laughed looking at his HP too
(nice burst though)
My first time trying Thf/mnk out. Assassin's Charge'd SATA Hide w/Coeurl Sub, no brd/cor. I think I only had 10 boosts, was worried about messin' up the timing, since it was my first time.

Any good? Idk, didn't see anything to compare with in the thread.
Oh, yeah, 300%. I knew I forgot to mention something... been up all night. And our dds rarely get brds, unfortunately.
From here on let's decide to hop on DRK for every merit and spam Souleater to break nice numbers and pest healers!
You Souleater, you die unless you have a kclub, end of fucking story

I suck :/
If you actually knew how to play drk, you'd know that there's many ways to beat souleater's HP loss:
1. Have full hp when you want to use it (1400-1500 if your elvaan is full hp usually w/ WS gear like me)
2. Cast Drain II (I use 320 drk magic skill anywhere so i always get 360-440 drain II in merrits (brings up max HP to 1800-1900) (and other drk magic never resist either), and it's not a problem to cast on birds if everyone has shadows up including yourself or u do it on mob that's bout to die, to be ready for next bird)
3. Cast Dread Spikes (incase bird blasts u w/ Pecking Flurry after u ws u'll have some defense, since shadows dont absorb all of flurry's hits)
4. Buff up in anyway you like (Last Resort, Souleater, ABS-VIT, ABS-STR, Food (if u want epeen number)
5. Use your Weaponskill on a full HP Bird then toggle off ur MAX HP BOOST from Drain II, and pop up Diabolic Eye (I myself have diabolic eye 4/5 (cuase i have 1/5 dark seal, and 5/5 Muted Soul (good combo with souleater recast cap) (So I can do this every 7 mins)).
Using souleater this way is the safest way, and your mages will be like "wtf just happened to ur hp O.o it healed itself ?!?!"
Highest Guillotine i've done on birds is 2,653 points of damage, capped scythe merrits (297 no Jtorque, but I have ebody and other good ws gear), +72 STR (cause of abs str), last resort (of course that's capped for +26% attack), Minuet IV(no idea if brd had it merrited) and March, Coeurl Sub, and Dia II, Double Attack proc. Also i was subbing NIN, but bird took my food after I ws, oh well o.0
But yes, only idiots dont know how to use souleaterbecause there are many ways to use it in XP pt. If u want to use it to it's max potential, I recommend u merrit muted soul, and get a dark magic set. I can just pop souleater sometimes w/o using ws, and get back all my HP w/ double drain, after a few hits, and not even pull anyhate because im under lv 5 muted soul; very nice job trait indeed.
Muted Soul freaking crazy, sometimes i ws, or just bash the mob w/ souleater, and i pull no hate, because im under the effect of -50 emnity from the job trait. If hate is pulled by muted soul ws, it goes away after a few secs, and the mob turns to next person on list (kinda like accomplice).
It's really fun to use in campaign, if duoing with someone too, they get back hate really fast, even if u do a megaboss ws on campaign mob.
Just remember drk isn't just a job like mnk or war, where u can mindlessly beat up mobs and spam job abilities and a couple ninjutsu only, it's a tactician job that allows the player to utilize a monsters attributes (with spells that take 2 secs to cast) and damage the monster in many ways. I recommend if u cast dread spikes, u also cast it in drk magic gear, (since we dont cast it that often, and want it to count when we do), it allows the spikes procs to rarley resist (unless the mob has alot of MDB or INT)
If a DRK starts casting Drain II and Absorb TP/STR in my Colibri party, he's finding another party. It's annoying as fuck to have a DRK cast Absorb TP and right when I hit WS macro I lose 50 TP.
Go get you some mamools fren.
Sub SAM instead of NIN and don't worry about using Souleater so much and you'll do a LOT more damage.
By the time you've cast ABS-VIT and ABS-STR on something, you've sacrificed more or less the same amount of damage (potential as well with TP) than the Souleater will actually add in most cases... in merits at least.Originally Posted by Vajra
Every 7 minutes doesn't make Souleater very impressive; 5/5 DE over 4/5 contributes more to damage over time on most mobs than this combination.Originally Posted by Vajra
Cast in Dark Magic/HP/Haste. You want to minimise resists as you say, but you also want the maximum capacity to be high (HP) and Haste is VERY useful for getting that next Dread Spikes out, asap.Originally Posted by Vajra
I don't think Souleater has much of a place in EXP/merits unless you're /nin (where you should be trying to use a different subjob); sure it's okay if you get stuck on one of those subjobs but it's hardly optimal. There simply isn't the level of support in an exp/merit party just to spike your damage but lose it in DoT recovering from it/preparing for it in most cases.
