TV! (Preferably LCD)

I was thinking something like a samsung lcd.

I like my Samsung, as I've posted. Obviously it's not the only good brand though.

And im wanting something for like a xbox360 or ps3 i have no idea the difference between 720p and the 1080p.

The numbers refer to the (general) vertical resolution. i or p at the end refer to interlaced or progressive scan. Interlaced means it draws every other line per refresh of the screen. Progressive means that, like a computer monitor, it refreshes the entire picture each time. Progressive is better. Obviously, 1080p is "better" than 720p. For a PS3 or 360, you'll actually take advantage of that resolution. Older stuff, not so much.

While BG is a fun board, honestly, you could probably get some better insights on a forum dedicated to this sort of thing, ie http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/ that I've linked to before. Kinda like you wouldn't go to a Honda forum and ask FFXI questions...I mean, some of the people might have played it, but you'd get better results from BG.

Sony and Samsung are my prefrence by far when shopping for a Hometheater TV and they serve decent dual duty as a computer display. And along this line of though the XBR line of Sony Panels is breathtaking.

If you do not have a lot of ambient lights in your room I would like to suggest comparing the Sony/Samsung LCD side by side with a Quality Plasma display panel (Pioneer, Panasonic). Other than the glare which can occur on the plasma display surface the Plasma PQ is still significantly ahead of LCD in my opinion. The response time and contrast is just on another level.

My father has a Philips LCD and I strongly dislike it's picture quality and menu system for tweaking.
