Repeating AF quests... so confusing

I decided to upgrade my BST AF legs to +1. Handed in all the items and ABCs this morning to the NPC in Lower Jeuno. Of course now I need to get back the NQ Legs piece in order to store those items again.

So I paid a visit to the other NPC that resets your AF quests. I dunno if anything has changed because people keep telling me that I have to pay 10K Gil and drop my items. But this NPC cleared my BST memories without doing these things. He offered me a choice of job AFs to reset (I've completed BLM, WHM, THF and BST) and when I speak to him again he doesn't offer BST in the list anymore. So this seems to have been reset without paying anything or dropping any items as yet.

However when I speak to Brutus in Lower Jeuno he just acts as normal as if I've done all the quests. Do I have to drop my AF weapon now? All I want to do is get the Legs piece back so I can store the NQ set again.

I did my PLD feet upgrade, and can't recall if I had to pay the dude or not, but you do not have to drop anything at all, until it's time to actually receive that item again. I reset my quests, then got started from the beginning with my AF weapon, once I had that quest completed and went to speak with the NPC to complete the quest, I dropped my AF weapon and immediately got the new one from him.

Another way to make sure your quests are reset is by checking the quest log - for me, they disappeared from the "Completed" list.

You can reset your AF quests as long as one of the items is out of your inventory. In the OP's case, he had already given one item to Sagheera, which meant BST was on the list for resetting. I would assume his other sets were in NPC storage, which was why they were on the list as well. Maybe he just took your 10K without really making it clear that's what he was doing? I can't recall the dialog from when I reset my quests.

For Brutus to give you the quest again, you need to repeat your AF weapon quest.

Could it possibly be because you were on another job at the time, instead of BST? I know a friend who forgot to swap to the correct job before restarting their AF stuff.

The NPC will reset your quests, and take the 10K directly from your gilz I think. But it resets ALL AF quests, 1-6. 1 Being weapon etc. So to re-get the item you want, you are going to have to re-do AF1 Weapon, then all the other pieces that come from quests after that (the one from brutus for the legs, the one from the galka for the hands, and the one from the guy in lower jeuno for the legs).

Part that sucks there is that legs is AF6 (also known as AF3, final AF, the one that gives u the "Paragon of Excellence" tittle), so getting the quest to activate requires finishing the hands and feet quests first (and thus dropping those particular pieces to get the quest).

Only party you luck out on here is the 2 coffer pieces (head and body), which shouldn't prevent the above mentioned quests, and shouldn't have to redo.

No. No. No. No. NO. Stop with the incorrect info.

To get AF3 you only need to redo your AF1 weapon quest, AF2 quest, then you can go straight to AF3. Only time you have to toss anything is right before you receive it, because you can't receive a rare/ex item if you already have it in your inventory.

I just did BST AF most recently... 2 days ago to be exact. NPC wouldn't give me the quest for AF3(legs) until I finished the others. Also, a simple, "No i don't think/believe thats right" (and why) would have been just as good. No need to act like a jackass (over disagreeing with ONE piece of my info).

OK guys thanks for the info and help. Tsakiki you were correct.... all my other AFs were in storage at the time and I'd already handed in my BST Trousers for the AF upgrade. So that's why all four jobs were appearing in the list.

One thing I was doing wrong was that I was rushing before having to go to work. And instead of speaking with Brutus to restart the AF weapon quest I was trying to speak with Dietmund.

Yes I know... a bout of n00bery there. But I think I will be fine now though. Regarding the 10K Gil.... he never asked for it. In fact he never mentioned money at all in the dialogue. He could have taken the 10K without me knowing, and to be honest I couldn't say for sure if he did as I can't remember the exact amount I had on me at the time.

On the gil thing, not sure he takes after the first reset, but he does on the first. If he does on 2nd/3rd, etc, it is done without a yes/no confirmation.

And, yes to do AF3 it is Weapon, AF2, then straight to AF3, no hands, no coffers those are all only as needed for those pieces.

To get to hands/coffers, you do AF1 - and OPEN AF2, then go straight to Guslam on the right job for that.

Never have to drop anything if you keep the original set with the NPC. Just do the reset/re-get first and hand it in with your items.
Done this on 5 jobs so far.
