Limiting players to one win per run for AF items sounds like a good idea. Let them lot on any items they choose (providing they can equip it) but once they win a lot then that's their AF done for the evening.
That still means that people with more jobs levelled get to lot more of course, but keeps other people from getting pissed from seeing them winning more AF all the time. If you choose this though keep an eye on people who win an AF and then 10 minutes later "suddenly have to go". If that happened more than once with the same player I'd be inclined to have words with them.
Skeet you still have the Screenshot of you MPKing Madawc in Sandy?
My LS handles relic drops using a point system, though our group has one of the most complicated point systems you'll find anywhere so I'm not gonna go into detail.
** Edit: If you want to torture youself, you can read our ls rulebook at http://thefraggles.sycodesigns.com/forums
- Any player that has a job 70+ can sign up to bid on relic for that job, one choice per run.
- Highest bid wins the right to lot.
- If no one is on bid for a relic, or we get more drops than people bidding, bids go to 70+ bid, then 60+, etc.. until it reaches freelot. Anyone in the LS is allowed to bid on relic gear that goes to 70+ bid or beyond.
- Relic weapons are freelot if you have a job that can use them. Shield is active PLD priority.
- Shadow Ring/Mantle, Relic -1 and Relic Accessory are separate bids from normal relic when we do those zones.
- All currency in our LS is banked and used to fund our runs. When our bank reaches a pre-set limit (I think it's 8M gil) extra 100V currency is put up for bid to the members before a run, to be used ONLY for relic upgrades. Anyone in the LS may bid on 100v.
Is carbuncle anything like Phoenix. A whole crapload of small shells that keep poping up because someone wants to fund a relic for themself. Then the shell sticks around for a couple months and people realize that the shell is crap, so they leave and next thing you know the shell breaks and the only person that really got anything out of it was the person that started the shell?
I don't know about you but being able to only chose one job to lot for af2 is pretty gay.
I rather go with a dynamis shell that lets me comment at least two af2s even though they would
only obtain one per run.
I don't know, maybe that's just me.
Our shell runs off a one-job principle. In a sense, it's tier based off of attendance, so the longer you've been in the shell, the higher your tier. Supports old over new, i know. But considering we've been running for almost 2 years, and currently are having a problem where people literally just don't want the armor that drops (I think i have 18 or so peices total?), it doesn't hurt.
We do it on Slected Main/Sub lot. Main lot goes over Sub Lot. Can only change Main Lot once ever, Sublot can be changed as much as desired.
We also allow people who win -1 peices to sponsor a run to get their needed coins, should they choose to.
Meh, people look at the system (and looking back on it, it's easy to see why) and think it's horrid, but it works for us. In fact, most new members wind up 4/5 before one of the old members go 5/5, with the exception of BLM who have to suffer, And I feel sorry for them but ; ;.
Have to be 65+ to have a main or a sub, which means I went a year and a half as BRD main only, lol. Still managed to have 18 peices to this day (Won PLD Hat last run <3 lol).
I think Shadowrunner hit the nail on the head, you use a system that works for your LS, which isn't necessarily the same as what works for any other LS. I know our rules are viewed with horror by some who think that bidding (or a points system in general) for AF is stupid and inefficient, but we've been using our current loot system for around half of our 250+ runs, and it works extremely well for us.
Nah, I dont have that SS, got a new Laptop and didnt bother to transfer that stuff over. Although i do wish i had the series of ss where i spend 2 hours binding a too weak Goblin in Ordelles caves next to an afk red mage camping morbolger who 119 minutes later died and delvled to 69Originally Posted by Heian

Oh and as for Dynamis rules, new shells come and go all the time so you have to decide whether you A: want tons of new members each run or B: want a small good group.
A: let people lot 2 AF2
B: get lots of thf
I am in the same LS as Zosi and it works well. The Main, Sub 70 and Sub 60 gives people a good chance at getting something they want by paying for it before things go free lot and loot whores with level 30s of your level 70 job take it from you.
I was also Co-Leader of a previous LS with a completely different set of rules which were slightly less complicated to manage. Basically you had 1 main lot which if dropped was lotted by every main lot who needed. If no main lots needed it then it would be free lot to anyone with that job over 70, then over 60 then free lot to whomever. Only conditions on being eligible to lot were that if you missed 4 straight runs you were unable to lot for the next 4 runs you attended. (There were exceptions for people who informed leaders in advance if they were going on vacation for 2+ weeks or something or if their computer broke etc). It mostly worked ok and kept attendance at a fairly standard number. The only complaint with this set of rules is that very occassionally, someone with a lot of level 70+ jobs could walk away with multiple drops on level 70+ free lot by outlotting people who have only 2-3 jobs.
Personally, I like the points system as you know walking into the run pretty much who is getting the drops and there is no fighting or w/e or bitching at people to pass etc.
We recently updated our rules to be like this:
- 1 point for showing up @ gather together time.
- 1 point for being there till mega boss
- 1 point for staying until we're kicked
- Everyone picks one job which to lot, switching jobs resets points to 0
Then let's say SMN relic drops. Person with most points in SMN gets 1st dibs, they can pass if they have or don't want, goes down the line. No SMN's need it, it goes free lot.
Simple, eh?
We have seperate points for CoP since we split the costs on those among all attendees.
As to relic weapons, each run has one sponsor. They pay the 1mil for the glass and all currency goes into their upgrade. Seems to work well, but since I"m not doing a relic weapon I'm not sure if they're happy with it.
Do you set one job per city, seperate northlands/cities, set 1 job for all areas?Originally Posted by nitsuj
The bottom line is always going to be use a rule set that fits your LS.
I run an open LS that is a mix of my main LS / Dynamis veterans / random new attendees.
Simple point system, people earn 1 point for each run they attend, and we'll give out 2 points for 'special' runs, i.e. attestation farming, fragment farming.
Point system is just a base cost, no bidding involved, and if nobody lots at the base cost it gets lowered down until someone does lot. Scale the AF2 by zone, Xarc AF2 costs 16 and it goes down from there.
All the runs, except CoP zones, are sponsored but the sponsor receives only the single currency. 100's can be lotted with points, but in the Northlands zone we give the 1st 100 which drops to the sponsor since there is usually less single currency there.
Let people choose to lot either 100 bills, or pick 2 jobs they want to lot AF2 for. Require people to be able to equip AF2 to lot it, but at the low point values, 2/0, reduce the level required to lot.
Most of the sponsoring is done by our main LS, although we have a couple runs a month where people can random to sponsor.
It works well for our needs really, we have consistent high attendance with reasonable turnover but in general have a pretty solid core of people who know what they are doing and good organization behind the runs in general. Runs are usually a pretty good time with minimal bickering and we do well in all the various zones, CoP included.
Best advice to you though would be to really think of the type of people you want to encourage to come and structure the rules to suit that group. For my own LS we really have a big mix of people so the rules are structured in some areas to benefit those who really do attend a lot, i.e. a high point value for Xarc AF2, however there are also benefits to those who do not come often, low cost city AF2, and being able to win 100's with points also encourages people to attend in general, not just runs where they need AF2.
Point systems are cool but it can also be unfair. In my dynamis shell I kinda of felt bad the way we did things. Old members had like 100 points while a new member that came every run for 3 months would only have 24 runs...It got to the point where old members have 5/5 af2 for 3-4 jobs and new members had city crap...Pretty much after all the old members got what they wanted they didnt care for dynamis anymore and that was it. We set the LS up so certain members would get everything.. It worked.
Also gotta look at it from the other perspective. We have lots of people with multiple jobs in my shell. One run we had a guy lot on 8 different AF2 and lose every lot, would it have been fair to have him to not lot any of those because he didn't pick the right job? there was a lot less drama when he was able to lot and lose, at least he got to try.Originally Posted by fantasticdan
Point systems do not have to work that way. For example, in the system I was describing it doesn't matter if a member has 100 points or 10, so long as both members have enough points for the base amount they can both lot. It is really more of a minimum participation requirement for lotting particular AF2, if you have participated that amount, you can lot. Obviously people who attend a lot more runs can lot more AF2, but it doesn't prevent newcomers from the same opportunity to lot once they put their time in.Originally Posted by Veli
That's the tough part our group never was able to figure out. The veterans pretty much have all the gear they need/want except the double-rare stuff that drops in Glacier, Xarc and COP zones so they have a pile of points lying around doing nothing. Some of them have started to cash in by bidding on 100v, some have gotten other jobs to 75 and started bidding for those jobs. This has started to make other members frustrated as the new members try to get the relic from city zones, and some of us who were working on a relic weapon upgrade are bidding more points than usual.Originally Posted by Veli
We run on a controlled freelot system.
You must maintain a 3 out of the last 8 runs attendance (not even 50%, but we chose to do this for those EUs and such who really cannot be asked to attend Wed nights, so they can still miss 1 of those a month). If you have attended 3 of the last 8 runs, you get Prio 1 lots, which also requires that the job be 65+. You can also choose 100 monies. You also do not qualify for Prio 1 choices upon joining our shell; you qualify for it in cities and the opening CoP areas after 8 runs with us; for Outlands and Tavnazia after 15. If you are a current member and take a long break of 2 months or so, you are also subject to this rule (had to instate that because we had a lot of people coming back after months off and getting Prio 1 lots after 3 runs again.. then getting an item and disappearing for 2-3 months again (though not always just from shell, sometimes from game)).
Everyone always gets Prio 2 drops.
Any drops are lotted on by all Prio 1s and go to the highest lot. When all Prio 1s have received their piece, then all Prio 2s drop. If the piece has no one prio'd on it, it is free lot. We have a website with a schedule and signup for a few weeks in advance, and people can put their piece choices there. If someone attends without signing up, they tell a particular leader before the run starts/before they enter what their prio choices are.
Money is collected by our leader; it's sold to fund glasses, but pretty much week by week; we keep a large stock within shell for AF2+1 upgrades and for those upgrading to buy from the shell at a discount to current going rates.
Repost from the LS rules thread:
We use a point system, where you gain 1 point per run. We don't do the "1 point for showing, 1 for staying to clear, 1 for farming" It's just really unfair if someone has to jet mid run or can't stay to farm because they're logging. Anyway, you accumulate points and when a relic drops, this happens:
Cities: Check highest person's attendance of item for that job, anyone within 20 points of person may lot.
Beaucedine: Same as above, but 5 points within.
Xarcabard: Highest attendance only.
CoP: Any main job may lot -1 relic. Belt/Cape are highest attendance within 20 points.
If something drops no main jobs need, we ask for any 75 jobs needing. If 2 or more speak up, they both lot it. If none need, we go down the list of 70+, 60+, etc.
When someone becomes 5/5 on a job, they get reset on points and are asked for a new job to lot, that way someone with 100 points doesn't just jump ship over to RDM and lot over others immediately. However, original attendance is kept for CoP zones. If someone switches lots at, say, 4/5, they take a % hit on attendance based on which received, etc.
It's to protect those from gaining Duelist Chapeau then jumping over and trying to get Valor Surcoat or something, thinking their attendance won't drop much. So far, the system's worked very well, but it does suck when some people are still 4/5 on their first job and a bunch are already working towards 2nd, 3rd, and so on. Xarca needs to drop moar >In fairness, if someone hits 60 or 70+ and is still not 5/5, when they get reset they only take an 80% reduction or even less depending how long they go. I think our highest was 147 for our PLD who recently went 5/5 finally, however she's gotten a bunch of relic for her 2nd jobs in the meantime due to our system.
As for currency, ls bank funds it, all currency is held and used to upgrade the current relic we decided on. Currently, that's Mandau, our 3rd, with Aegis being next. Currency is also freely given to members for -1 relic.
If you can do it (ie you have the programming prowess) Obsidian on Odin has an amazing system. http://www.obsidian-odin.com
