    Spell Interruption Rate

I had some very specific questions that I didn't see answered in any Red Mage tanking threads..

How much Spell Interruption Down is Aquaviel?
Is there a cap for Spell Interruption Down?
If so, is there a gear cap and a magic cap? Like Haste?

I know this is all kind of silly because I'll have access to a lot more Fast Cast soon and even later on but mostly I wanted to know if anyone had this kind of knowledge.

    edit: currently Lv.51 RDM

    Re: Spell Interruption Rate

I asked about this a few months ago and was told it was 50%, it includes gear, spells, and merits.
    Source: http://ffxi.killvoid.com/forums.php?...=141715&d=1800
It starts at the bottom of the page of 61 and ends at the beginning page of 62.

There is NO viable proof that these statements hold true, however; 50% sounds about right, could be higher I suppose.

    Re: Spell Interruption Rate

Doesn't skill level affect interruption rate too? The difference between War/Nin and Ninjer main, especially while fighting easy stuff (EP/DC and even certain exp mobs) is abysmal, I was skeptical until I got around to take the latter to 75, once I reached it, capped Ninjutsu skill and maxed out merits the gap became irrefutably apparent.

    Re: Spell Interruption Rate

No idea what the rates are, but I never really used Aqua all that much up untill a year ago, then it started to become a reqular addition to my buffs (Blink>SS>Phlx>Aqua), and noticed quite a few less interrupts. I macro -Interrupt in with Sleep/Stun spells where possible for the hell of it.

Seems to work, but could be placebo.

    Re: Spell Interruption Rate

Aquaveil is dandy and fine for a good while, but rapidly diminishes in use towards 75. Skill affects interrupt rates a great deal too. But while I was fiddling around with BLM (got it to 65, decided I was tired of it, lol) I found AF feet really useful. Especially while I was soloing Chigeo, that -interrupt could save me when River Gaiters couldn't.

Yeah, I've also been doing those chigoes as BLM and Aquaveil + AF feet has seemed to save me from situations where I thought there was no way I'd get the spell off.

    Re: Spell Interruption Rate

Feet is a particularly difficult slot for BLM at that level (although being Mithra with River gaiters is a big advantage), so AF feet are actually something to hang on to if you ask me.

Malinn starts casting drain on the Chigeo
    *smack* "ow"
    *smack* "ow"
*smack* "*sigh* at least I have RR up."
    Malinn (somehow) defeats the Chigeo.

But as a RDM/NIN tank, Aquaveil isn't going to help, and I wouldn't dedicate any gear slot to -interrupt rate.

    Re: Spell Interruption Rate

Thanks for the responses everyone. Mainly I asked because I'm tanking /war in exp parties for a couple of levels and it's been difficult getting Refresh off due to it's long casting time while engaged. If I come across anything while I'm playing around, I'll post.

I dunno about you guys, but even with a shitton of Spell Interupption-%, if I get hit around the middle of my cast, there is no way its going to get through. Maybe I just have really bad luck :\

I was told that spell interruption rate down lowers the range you get interrupted, if that makes any sense. For number sake, let's say you get interrupted anywhere between 0 and 100%. With spell interruption rate down 10%, you won't get interrupted between 0 to 5% or 95-100%.

From what I've seen, without any %interrupt gear, 0-20 and 80-100 are already not interruptable. A loooong time ago I posted a theory that %interrupt gear just increased the range on the edges rather than altering the chance in the middle. IIRC it was a couple years ago on KI. I've since seen other posts that claimed this theory was fact. I've never seen anyone offer any proof, though. No tests at all. I like the idea well enough that it is how I think of %interrupt gear as working, but really until someone truly tests it, it's hardly fact -- just a reasonable-sounding explanation.

Also, the theory doesn't really cover those cases where you get pummeled midcast and still manage to finish the spell. Those are pretty damn rare, but they do happen. The most accurate thing I can say about %interrupt is that no matter how much you have, it's hard to notice any gains from it.

One of the issues has to do with latency between client and server. Basically, your client doesn't register you've been hit until a certain period of time after the server says you have, and the server doesn't know you're casting a spell until that same period of time after you initiate the cast. Often, in times of high lag/latency/etc, you'll notice a cast will go through even though you've been hit after the 20% mark, or you'll get interrupted even though you got hit when/after the spell should have taken effect.

    Re: Spell Interruption Rate

I'm also pretty sure it has to deal with the "danger" zone when casting (ie, changes interupt range from 10-90% to 15-85% type of thing). It could also change the ammount of damage required to be interupted, so instead of 50 damage at 50% interupting you, it requires 75 damage..

But honestly, I have no clue how you would even begin to test this. I thought about trying it with mandy's or chigore, but they would only interupt with a crit hit in the middle of a spell.. Things that attack fast don't hit hard enough to interupt, and things that attack hard enough to interupt hit to slow to get timing down to figure out what is going on.

If anyone has any ideas, it could be interseting to figure out though.

    Re: Spell Interruption Rate

I've always felt getting hit with a high damage physical has a much higher chance of interupption than a lower damage one. No real proof though, just feels that way.

    Re: Spell Interruption Rate

I can get hit for 200 dead in the middle of a spell on RDM (That I have native skill in) and not get interrupted, but I can get hit for 1 from an IT and interrupt almost every time. I doubt it has anything to do with the amount of damage. I think it's a skill to skill comparison just like ACC and EVA, ATK and DEF, STR and VIT, etc. Weapon Skill vs Magic Skill.

As far as what the gear does, I'm siding with the "Window" theory myself.

    Re: Spell Interruption Rate

I'm still wondering about the getting hit for 1 and interrupted because Stoneskin broke thing... It actually happened several times a month or so ago in Dynamis - Jeuno.

    Re: Spell Interruption Rate

I personally cant't recall being interrupted by a hit from any mob (not even something like Tiamat's non flying hits) when Stoneskin absorbed the whole damage of the hit (I'm not saying it's not possible, just that if it is it's really rare). It's certainly possible that a different criteria applies if you take 0 damage than when you take >0 damage.
