The next adventurer appreciation event should involve various "elusive" NMs wandering the newbie zones, with a moogle to cap you before you fight it.Originally Posted by Dakana
The list of NMs to appear should be NMs that have at one point in time been a mystery (or still are). The event should involve Goblin Wolfman, Ravin Raven, Almighty Apkallu, Voluptuous Vilma, among others.
Either that, or put mission/event-only NMs in the various newbie regions, like Alexander, Promathia, Zilart Princes, Zeid, Ajido-Marujido, Proto-Omega and Ultima, Odin, Cait Sith, Chariots, etc.
Afterall, in the past the adventurer appreciation event showcased the various dungeons of Vana'diel, next time they should showcase the various (rare) NMs or unique monster models (mission/event).
wait what? where did you see cait sith?Originally Posted by Khamsin

----=== Update Details ===----
- We have been informed of an issue where HNMs finally have entered NA Prime Time for the first time in 2 months. This issue will be corrected.
- A "notice GM" patch will be added to AV making him not use 2-hour ablities whenever he is set in demostration mode.
Or maybe they're just performing, you know, system upgrades like the details said. System upgrades usually refer to OS, driver, or hardware changes. They're most likely upgrading the servers and/or network equipment prior to the expansion next month. I seriously doubt it's in any way content-related.
[edit]
Maybe it has something to do with getting ready for the DirectX 9 transition?
I've heard some rumors floating around about DX9 and FFXI. Anyone know any more details about what's going on? Presumably this has something to do with getting a native windowed mode for PC. A friend was saying the PC version might get a graphical update, but while certainly possible (new UO client?) it sounds unlikely to me.Originally Posted by Xanthe
Oh and for everyone complaining about these updates resetting pop timers to be more favorable to Japanese players... maybe the reason they work on the servers when they do is because it's when SE employees on the west coast are, I don't know, at work and stuff?

You're correct, the DirectX 9 rewrite goes hand in hand with the upcoming windowed mode. It was discussed in the E3 interview between SE and otherwiki back in May and posted in this thread.
No idea if this will include any sort of graphical update, but we should at least see some performance benefits from upgrading the client to DirectX 9.Back in March at the Premiere Site Summit, we were told that there would be a window mode released. When will this be released?
The reason this has been taking so long is that FFXI uses DirectX 8. To allow the windowed mode, we have to rewrite the program to be DirectX 9 based, which is what we're doing right now. And we hope to have all of that work finished by the time Wings of the Goddess is released. It will probably come out at the same time the expansion is released.

No, the next mob in newbie zone event should be "Fafnear" roaming around. When you defeat him, everyone examines the ground and gets the item "Riddle" that has the enchantment "occasionally dispenses 2 to 3 Angel Wings." Then no one can complain about king camps anymore.Originally Posted by Khamsin
And occasionally "Nidhawg" will show up, dropping Atomant Hauberk.

again the idea for my SE April fool's joke surfaces. One day switch of all loot pools- but to keep it "fair" items of equal value will be swapped around.
For example, W. Abjuration: Body will drop from Bubbly Bernie for the day.
