Mistwaker's debuts are kind of a flop it seems... it sucks, I was hoping they'd give Square a run for their money.

Same thing happened to Takahashi when he founded Monolith Soft. Mitsuda + Takahashi was a dream team for Xenosaga, but the series kinda failled (not that I believe 1 sec it didnt deliver the content, it still had poor sales).Originally Posted by Exoduso

I went into Ep.I looking for something that'd be Xenogears awesome, but instead I got 'Xenogears Disc 2: The Game'. Not that I disliked Disc 2, but it was not as 'fun' as Disc 1 even though there was a lot of interesting story stuff going on.
I still liked Xenosaga Ep.I though. Fuckin loved MOMO KOS-MOS and Albedo.
Then, Ep.II just ruined it all for me, it was like Ep.I in that I was watching the game more than I was playing it, which isn't SO bad... even though I don't really like it that much. But then stack the unfun battle system on top, and you're got yourself a disaster.
I'm flip-flopping on whether I want to try Ep.III, I'm told it's great by many people... but most of them liked Legend of Dragoon, so I can't trust their opinions too much!
I was also not really able to get into Blue Dragon... friend of mine let me borrow his 360 and the game, it's the only RPG in the past 5 years that I started, but didn't finish.
No point judging the xenosaga series without playing #3, honestly. #3 did everything right and patched up all 3 games pretty nicely, I really recommend you give it a shot.
I agree with Blue Dragon, outside of the final boss fight & song for it, the game sucked.
Right, because I can't judge games that I have played without playing another game.
Because you've condemned #3 it to hell without actually trying it out. (based on your experience with the other two which, granted, were bad.)Originally Posted by Charismatic
I can understand it though, a lot of people gave up on the series after Ep.2, but they actually did a really good job on #3.
I totally agree with #1 and #2 sucking badly because they did... but #3 makes up for all of it, seriously.
He told you not to judge the series without playing Episode 3, not that you couldn't judge Episode 1 and 2.Originally Posted by Charismatic
It'd be the equivalent of watching The Phantom Menace and saying that Star Wars sucked.
Well, if you want to go that route... I didn't judge the series anyway.Originally Posted by Xavier
I judged Ep.I then Ep.II.
So why are we talking about this at all?
Theres nothing to talk about neither of you actually disagreed with one another.
No disagreement, I just suggested he should try Xenosaga 3 instead of giving up on the series... it's one of my favorite RPGs on the PS2 (Ep.3 alone) and i'm a lot of the people who had played it would agree with me.
I think I mentioned this a long time ago but I could never get excited about Lost Odyssey. I wanted too but looking at the gameplay videos it just didn't seem fun. I know story and shit are important but god dammit I can't play a game through if it bores me to tears, no matter how good the story is. Likewise, I can play a game with a terrible (or at least lackluster) story as long as the game is fun and there is extra content that has nothing to do with the story.
I just really want a good Japanese RPG to sink my teeth into =(
I think that's what most 360 owners are thinking, which is why devs think they can get away with making average JRPGs that disappoint people who play them who are used to more.Originally Posted by Xavier
Mistwalker should DIAF if Lost Odyssey fails to meet people's expectations... they already pissed a great deal of fans with Blue Dragon.
Because ps3 and wii got more j-rpg?Originally Posted by Elcura
Yeah, cause that's exactly what I said. /sarcasmOriginally Posted by Kaylia
I still dont understand your first statement. Why would devs think they could get away with average JRPG on xbox360 more than other consoles?Originally Posted by Elcura
I don't think thats what he said at all.
I took it to mean that people are starved for good J-RPGs, and developers in general think that means they can get away with sub-par games simply from a lack of competition. The 360 was brought up in response to the amount of hype a game like Lost Odyssey generates, because 360 users are starved for J-RPGs and have no choice but to make -anything- look better than it is.
If you wanted to make it specifically about the 360, I'd point to its very, very, very low install base in Japan and say that most developers know their game won't sell very well, so why put a lot of money into it in the first place?
You just misunderstood what he was replying TO.Originally Posted by Kaylia
Xavier said that he wants a jRPG badly... and Elcura was simply saying that that's probably what most of the 360 owners are thinking (Xav has one) and they can get away with making shitty jRPGs because they know they'll sell regardless of whether it's good or not.
The same thing applies to the PS3 too (Folklore was just dumb, and the PS3 has no other exclusive RPGs which is why he said 360 over the other consoles.. and that's besides the fact that the 360 has a much larger userbase than the PS3 in the states, where people seem to like jRPGs, no?)
Make more sense now? >.>
That's what I understood. I just don't understand why Xbox was targeted in his post more than other console. Everyone is starving for rpg atm, and all of them get a lot more attention than they deserve to.
If he said XBox simply because it's the only console with rpg atm, then we are all saying the same thing
Imo, the hype come from the dream team who made those 2 games more than the starved RPG fan in this case.Originally Posted by Xavier
