I'm not sure that Campagnie (if that is your real name!) looks like it's going to be a linkshell event, but we've been talking about this. We already have a pretty full schedule with the events that exist now; we don't even do Limbus as often as we can anymore, and I think Einherjar is on a "3 times per 2 weeks" basis. Sky and Sea have to alternate. And that's taking into account that we don't camp kings regularly (small LS with people distributed across time zones). Surely the new expansion is going to have one, probably two events that lend themselves to whole-linkshell participation, even if you don't count any new HNMs. Just when we finally managed to squeeze a "free day" into the schedule (which, granted, I just use to do more Salvage), here comes WotG.

Awesome, I've segued from mocking you to mocking our nation's culture to despairing of the legacy of imperial conquest in a mere 3 posts.
    I try.

I'm guessing there will be multiple "Besieged" areas and if you lose ,the Beastmen will slowly progress to your capital.

Seems that way, it's like a modified conquest by the sounds of it.

this is a big part of why you're seeing an increased number of event shells, instead of one-stop shop HNMLS.

back when all there was was Dynamis, Sky, and Ground - it made sense to do Sky with your ground team and dynamis with that other ground team that you had a friendly rivalry with.

now? forget it. (especially when Salvage is best run 5+/wk to make quick progress)

What I wonder is, what will the timer be on this.

Is it going to build up constantly until they are beat down, is it going to be on a cycle like Besieged, will you be able to get some friends together, go do this for Exp/(IS/CP type points)/Possibly other rewards in a small group and make a dent, or will you get raeped like a cheerleader on a date with Kobe Bryant (too late?).

What happens when you get back to back lvl 8 Besiegeds and the Beastmen are advancing on your home nation in the past simultaneously?

Either way, Besieged is fun, gotta love tons of free godmode time and the ability to spam your 2hr (do wish besieged gave some sort of sliding exp scale based on total damage done/healed, several jobs are capable of doling out 30-50k damage or much more during a Besieged, and getting the same 1800 as a lvl 40 melee auto-whiffing to cap kind of sucks) and lag isn't so bad if you're not in a party/alliance, at least for me anyway.

Odds are attacks will be more common than Beseiges, but on a much smaller and more managable scale. They'll begin attacking an outpost, we'll be notified somehow, and if it's successful, they'll have taken the fort and will stop for a while, preparing for the next in line. If they're unsuccessful, they are weakened, in which case our side can mount an attack on their forts IF WE SO CHOOSE. Since this is going to be on a smaller scale than Beseiged, the rewards might be slightly lower when defending claimed forts, but I'm betting we'll get the same exp/'CP' deal we do in there, plus a certain bonus or advantage for having control over more territory.

Looks like there's a good chance I was right: Conquest effects (regional control) decided mainly by "mini-Besieges", as LD said above.

Yeah, odds are that's how it will play out, just hope that is right and it isn't a big full on zerg after hours of build up, it works for Besieged since it's one place which is easy to pay attention too.

    Re: New Famitsu Scan

The only drop rates I feel need boosts in Salvage are silversea NMs.

Now about events in games not being tweaked to perfection apon implementation : duh. You can only do so much testing as a developer before you have to send it out to the masses and then wait for feedback. Complaining that something's not perfect on the first time in FFXI is quite silly, everything in this game follows the pattern.

-Limbus Dynamis(cities) both had horrificly low drop rates when implemented, both got tweaked.
-Beseiged has gone through multiple tweaks and refinements to make it the crapfest it still is today.
-Nyzul has been tweaked slightly, don't do this so unsure on how so.
    -BCNMs constantly getting ninja tweakings.
-Salvage was too difficult for most, got tweaked, the opening chest only boosted veteran groups really, noob groups still won't be able to kill bosses and upgrade their 35s.

It doesn't just stop @ FFXI, it's for SE's offline FFs aswell, FF12 international edition (the funny thing is the only place this gets released is japan) got some major changes in their game, including things requested by players such as multiple licence boards so they can give characters "jobs", changed how you get zodiac spear, increased drop rates on everything because they don't wanna farm for hours for an item, etc.

    Re: New Famitsu Scan

lol the people who don't complain about this shit are the same tools who are content with doing their salvages for months on end and nothing to show. man, at the very least, you could camp kings and be afk nearly the entire time doing something else.

but yeah, it's pretty easy to say this event will be a clone of besieged with maybe a few twists. i'm with whoever said about losing the AC when this shit is released lol

(and this would explain why my group is 0/70 when lots of others are getting drops I think; we've been focusing on SSR drops) SSR is definitely the worst rate then?

    Re: New Famitsu Scan

I think that to some extent they need to release new events with a certain amount of difficulty. Making improvements and lowering the difficulty can be done over time. Making something more difficult than it had been for months previous would be a sensitive thing. Imagine the nerdly deluge of rage if an event were too easy to begin with, only to be made harder later on. It would come off feeling like you had perks rescinded. Instead improvements that can lower difficulty are typically a welcome change.

Of course there are some areas that just make you wonder wtf they were thinking before releasing it (i.e. Einherjar mobs/drops, Besieged lag, Ulli "fix" #1).

Yes, SSR has the worst drop rate of them all. Your lone encounter of suck won't deny that multiple groups have gotten plenty from all other zones and bare minimums from SSR. People going 1/30+ on one NM alone, isn't uncommon. In fact that's how we are on a few of those NMs, the ones who we have seen drop anything have dropped it once per 20 kills.

Been doing salvage since it started, killed these NMs hundreds of times, seen more non drop over drop to safely say what I say.

Bhaf highest 35 rate, Zhay|Arra share second, SSR way down the toilet.

Silver sea is a complete cluster fuck, I don't even expect to see any 35's and if they do drop it'll be deimos pants. The only positive part about silver sea is that you might not be completely screwed and get a few cards(if lucky) to return to a zone with ok drop rates in zhayolm.
